Hiya, I'm beginning my journey into solo PvP'ing for a boredom neutralizer, and I'm at a crossroads on what I should do. I prefer Gallente ships with blasters as I have more knowledge of the two. Small T2 blasters aren't an issue, nor are T2 damage controls and some armour hardeners/things of the nature.
Should I use frigs, dessies, or cruisers in low-sec? I'd prefer fast ships to make the way I play easier. Any advice would be appreciated! |

Since you are starting out, fly something that you deem expendable enough, and that matches the skills you have currently. A T1 frigate or a destroyer is going to give you the best bang for the buck, at least until you become more experienced.
Here is a loadout you can try out against light MWD tacklers. It might give you some ideas.

Here's an Atron fit that I use and have had pretty good luck with:
Atron 3 Lt Ion II, Nos 1mn AB II, ASB, Scram 2 TE, MAPC Collision Accel, 2 Poly
Here's another one, but it's paper thin. Also had pretty good luck: 3 125mm Rail II 1mn MWD, Disruptor, Web/TD 2 TE, MFS Collision Accel, 2 Ambit
I think with the new armor changes I might try out an AAR Atron.

I'm curious if anyone has an armor tanked blaster Atron fit that's done well for them. It's definitely more my style.

With current popularity of SML-TD-MWD + TD-Slashers frigs runnin around.. I personally prefer this..
3x T2 150 rails scram/web/ab - T2s SAAR/overdrive/EANM - T2s (obviously not SAAR) 2x Semi-cells/N-pump - rigs to your own flavor, this is what fits without gimping other key areas like poly hampering an already thin paper buffer even further.. and hybrid rigs or second pump not fitting w/o implants.
Takes V fitting skills to barely fit w/o implants. 100ish dps, 70ish omni-tank, 1555 m/s base speed. GTFO abilities, can hit annoying kiters with right ammo, can mitigate dmg while applying more of its dps than a lot of T1 frig setups if you scram/web kite.
Not perfect, nothing should be tho. But has a wide field of engagement ability. I think blaster frigs should stick to the hulls that can sledgehammer someone's face before they can blink.. like an Enyo, Blarpy or a DD (I guess, rail DD is best frig imo).

Sure, but it's faster, smaller, and has a range bonus. That's like saying the Taranis is useless because the Harpy exists.

Blaster Ranis will lose to a blaster harpy 10/10 unless the harpy is really bad
Blaster Atron will lose to a blaster incursus 10/10 unless the incursus is really bad.
Not saying the Atron doesn't have any uses.. But as a frig fight brawler its clearly inferior to the Incursus. BYDI (Shadow cartel) Recruitment open!

I happen to be a pretty good Blarpy pilot and I know for fact that you basically can't hit a ranis in a neutron Harpy. Now, the Ranis has never been able to break my tank either, but there's been more than once that fitting a buffer tank would have killed me against a Ranis. You really seem to underestimate the strength of a tracking bonus for attacking close range interceptors. Even more than that, you don't seem to understand that an Incursus winning in a theoretical 1v1 against an Atron doesn't really mean a whole lot when comparing the viability of the two ships.

Well i know i have killed a Taranis in a rail incursus without any tracking issues?
I don't really get how you can manage to NOT track a Taranis with blasters.. Unless possibly if you are in a MWD harpy fighting a AB/scram/web ranis.. If not the speed difference really shouldn't be enough for the Taranis to properly get under the neutrons..

Sure, and I've killed a Domi with 3 Condors. I just looked at a fraps I took in a Harpy v Taranis 1v1. It took a 77 seconds for me to down a Taranis in an Ion Harpy. Once he closed to 1500 meters it was damn near impossible to hit him - most of my damage came in massive spurts when I managed to lower transversal. I've seen and had far better performances.
I'm going to dig through more of my fraps footage to see if I have any of that recorded. I think you just fundamentally do not understand how little of your damage you're actually applying.

I can confirm that this fit works like a charm. Since I couldn't find a fight in low-sec, I had a duel with my CEO. Maybe not a tradtional first kill, but a first kill nevertheless.
I'll look into making this fit into a similar but more personalized one. Thanks for the beautiful fit advice, you've probably just sparked my beginning into a PvP career. o7 |
