I'm running a Celeron 1.7Ghz, 512 MB puter with a SiS 651 card. Everything seems fine, except for the sound which I will try and fix tommorrow. The graphics are all ok except for the text. I can't read what's written in the right bottom tutorial box because the text seems too fat. Not sure how to explain it. Is there anyways I can fix it?

Got the latest drivers? Your screen really shouldn't look like that.

It's the video card that your problem. I would suggest buying a cheap Nvidia or ATI card as the GPU on you card does not have the feature needed.

Oh well, can't really afford to buy a new card right now. I do have the latest drivers from the SiS site though. Guess I'll play when I can afford a new card.

turn the sound off. The eve client has issues with the majority of sound devices and playing with sound on can cause a lot of client-side lag and very low fps, esp with missile spamming enemies. ----------------

some graphics cards have different mipmap settings as default for texal alignment some cards have options built in to adjust it it is normaly a slider bar older cards some the old gforce cards and such dont have option built in u will have to go on web and d/l a tweak util for your card and the option for mipmap settings will be in there good luck.

I can't find any utility to alter the mipmap.
If anyone could provide me with a hack or a patch it would really help. Doesn't matter if I screw up my driver in the process, I'm willing to give it a shot to be able to play Eve.

There is a graphic setting for the text. I think it's a slider. You just need to slide it .1 ot .2 in a direction and it should fix the text issue.

Well, there used to be a font size slider. Try the "context menu font size" in the graphic tab. There are 2 settings.

I can't find such a setting inside the game. Or did you mean it's somewhere in windows?
Could it be that I'm missing a font or something?
I really appreciate you trying to help me. I just want to play the game but .... sigh.

Beloved Vengence has already given you the correct information. The SiS video cards are NOT supported by EVE. You can see this in the Find Answers link at the left.
To quote the last part of the page:
The following graphic cards are not supported by EVE: ATI Radeon VE ATI Radeon U1 ATI Radeon 7000 Diamond Viper II Z200 Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 Intel Extreme Graphics Onboard Intel chips, such as the Intel740, the Express 3D Graphics Card, and the 82830M/82815/82810/82845G/82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controllers Voodoo 3 3000 Voodoo 5 5500 Voodoo4 4500 Riva TNT/TNT2 Matrox Millenium - G400 & G450 S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR SiSŤ 650/740 Graphics Controller
Why aren't they supported? Could be any number of reasons such as lack of memory, too slow, no T&L support, DirectX version not supported, card is too old, etc. The list goes on and on. The only way you may find out is to send in a petition and ask them.
If you are using a graphics card that the game does not support, then you can't expect to have the same results as with a card that is supported. And you can't expect CCP to use resources to try and make the game work to your satisfaction, especially when they told you ahead of time that they don't support it. It just may not be possible, due to a limitation of the video card (i.e., lack of features).
If you want better results, then get a video card that is supported. Otherwise just live with it. Several of the supported ones can be found new for $20 - $50 online. Just need to look around.
I am not unsympathetic to your problem. But the only solution is to get a video card that EVE supports.

The SiS 651 isn't mentioned in the list and that's what I have.

The 651 is a replacement to the 650. The list was made before the 651 came out, but is only updated as it's needed.

SiS is a cheap excuse, not a grafic chip. SiS builds really crappy grafic chips for a decade or more and they're even less skilled at developing drivers.
They're okay if you just have to write a letter or two per month, or for checking your email.

Thank you for your insightful reply. I appreciate it. Now please go troll elsewhere.
In all honesty, I'm tired of people telling me to go buy a new graphics card. I'm sorry, I can't afford it. What would you have me do? Why don't you ask Eve to support those cards instead? Since I can play pretty much any game out there except Eve. And since when do people have to change mobos and hardware to support games? Does Eve have so many customers that it doesn't feel the need to get more by changing the game to make it work on older cards? I wasn't aware that the game had come to a point where it felt no need to advance it's userbase.
Replies like the one I have quoted above make me wonder if all my friends were wrong when they said that the Eve communtiy was much more ... mature. It was a huge factor in my wanting to play it.
To tachy, that was a pretty cheap shot. I could stoop to your level and tell you that since you have money to afford good cards, maybe you should go and sign up for spelling/typing/whatever classes since you can't spell for ****. But I won't. Oh wait...
