So I guess I'm a nerd and I never leave the house or something, because I don't seem to know what humans look like. Especially women. So, give me a hand here, would you?

I'm making a new character, but I just can't for the life of me see if this character looks decent or not. I should point out that I've always been bad at using character creators, regardless of the game. Also, as a male who adheres to the heteronormative expectations of society, I don't know jack about makeup, so don't judge me too hard on that front. |

Blush is a little hard. For that skin tone I recommend a more complative tone for the blush something that will darken her pink doesn't compliment the skin tone so try sort of a bronzing blush. As for that little bit of eyeshadow I recommend using a normal black eyeliner not something pink as well The lipstick is ok a lighter tone will go better with the bronzing blush though Try to choose an eyeliner that isn't heavy under the eyes but rather on the domes, or eyelids more.
Not sure which options in the character creator you'd choose to achieve this, but from a make up stand point that is what would be best.

While I'm just slightly confused as to what you mean when you said
Quote:As for that little bit of eyeshadow I recommend using a normal black eyeliner not something pink as well andQuote:Try to choose an eyeliner that isn't heavy under the eyes but rather on the domes, or eyelids more. because eyeshadow and eyeliner are different things, at least in the game, but I tried to change the makeup around a bit. Got this: http://i.imgur.com/8jXAWoh.jpg There doesn't really seem to be a lighter tone of lipstick in the game, all I can do about that is use the opacity adjuster.
What do you think about the structure of the face and the proportions on the body? |

Looks OK to me, but I'm no makeup specialist I'm afraid.
Is an amusing change to find a guy interested in creating a realistic female character :-) |

Actually the sculpting of the character matters more right now, because all that other stuff I can change later without having using a PLEX. What do you guys think, is this character okay when it comes to that? |

- You are an extraterrestrial playing an MMO (highly unlikely... aliens would be smart enough to not subject themselves to this game). - You are a sentient AI (unlikely... you have more efficient things to do with your time than play in a game full of meatsacks). - You are blind (plausible, but unlikely... how the hell are you manipulating the user interface? The amount of information needed to process an action cannot be conveyed through computer voice and audio commands alone). - You are a "bubble kid" and live in a facility (plausible, but unlikely... and you should have TV and/or the internet to see what other people look like). - You have lived out in the middle of nowhere with no one around for as long as you can remember... but just happen to have internet access (eh... plausible... but I still don't buy the whole "I have no idea what women look like"... just use google). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

My suggestion is to find a spot (or first box if resculpting) on the "history bar" in the character creator that you find comfortable with. Then do your experimental changes. Once you are done toggle between the before and after boxes to see which one you like better. You can then go back in the history and add the changes you like and dropping the ones you don't, so it helps to do the more likely changes before the weirder more experimental ones.
I created this character a little after the free resculpt that came with the new skin tones almost a year ago. I was mostly satisfied with the relatively conventional looks, but decided to spend a PLEX once resculpts were available for purchase. I really like the results better than the original version and did some noticeable tweaking dropping elements I didn't like and exaggerating the ones I did. A couple weeks later I decided to use another PLEX to do some minor adjustments which is pretty close to this final design. I have resulpted a number of times since, but these have only been really minor things like toggling freckles, angling nose tip a bit higher/lower, slight mouth size changes, etc. At this point I don't think there is much more I could do to make my ideal character although it did take some rather obsessive experimenting.
The bottom line is that I believe we all have different images of what we think is our ideal design. I happen to like weird features like high and deep placed eyes (max settings) along with a long, thin nose (also max settings), a very tiny jawline and not much as far as cheeks (which are set to min settings) and pretty much all the body settings also set to minimum. The end result is a rather unique look that I really like, but probably won't be to your taste.
Others can tell you what they like in a design, but only you can say what you like. There are definitely attractive avatars that have a wide variety of looks. |

Or one of the CCP Hamsters has realized the NPC characters all look a bit off and wants to fix that.
Or the AI hasn't caught onto "this is a game played by meatsacks who aren't really plugged into the computer"
One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia Malcanis for CSM8 |

I ended up going for that final edit, with just some minor changes to the jawline and cheekbones. Thanks for the help. |

As for makeup, as a male your best bet is just to never exand the makeup bars ever. Simple as that. |

After screwing around with the character creator a lot, I've found that the most important bit for the final result is the expression, pose and lighting, then the makeup/hair/tattoos/piercings and then the actual sculpting. |

Pretty much this.
The proportions of your model look fine. In general if you keep away from the biggest boobs and smallest waste you can get a fairly *average* look. As for the face and make-up, keep it neutral and light-ish for a skin tone like that, as try and stay away from going with thick black eye liner or really bright colours.
*edit* that's not to say you can't get away with the more *extreme* makeup / piercings / scarings, just that it'll take some practice to get it right. If you do want to go with that, keep it simple. Pick one, maybe two, striking features and resist the temptation to go with more.
Souxie Alduin is a pretty good example, eyeliner and tattoo, same colour with the rest fairly neutral. It's striking but simple. |

Whether the character is male or female the above may help you get to a portrait you're happy with.
As for make up, regardless of gender - makeup can help with lighting and "bloody" white hot-spots some lighting can create. Colored make up if new to it, you probably want to go very gentle with. Strong / noteworthy color can be used to highlight features while others are left muted, supporting the high-lit regions with pronounced color. Strong color lips, muted eyes, or the reverse. Both with strong use of color can create a fantastical / clownish appearance if you're not careful (unless appearing the clown IS your intention).
There are seemingly some minor quirks with the creator related to sculpting. While most people will probably concentrate on creating the right expression, facial features and general musculature, you want to make certain you're happy with the overall body of the character while wearing *each layer of clothing*. A character that looks fine / normal in a form fitting flight suit, - has the potential to inadvertently have certain bodily features exaggerated / overly endowed when wearing the final outer layer clothing options, - jackets, 'traditional' semi-long coat etc.
-Note If you want to learn even more about makeup for whatever reason / purpose, there are actually a large number of youtube videos with people applying makeup / giving lessons on how to effectively apply & create certain creative 'looks' with it. |

With makeup, there are two rules:
1. Keep everything very light, harmonious, and neutral 2. Break rule 1 to deliberately bring attention to something
That's all you need to know ever. The rest is just playing around and having fun. |
