Hi, Ok so the skill requirements for the ships will be changed in the summer update.
Some people state they have changed their skill training to benefit from the update. How?
We get the general piloting skill reimbursed from what I understand so if I have destroyer and BC at V I get skill points to place on different skills instantly right?
But what would be the point now starting to max the skills which get reimbursed? Will I get more SP then invested in training? Does it save time somehow?
I tried reading the dev post but got lost in all the details and could not figure out what the right thing to do would be for me.
kind regards Snusk |

you're a bit off.
Assuming that right now you have "Amarr Cruiser 4*" and "Battlecruisers 3", you will get "Amarr Battlecruiser 3" in May. The same applies for Destroyers and their relevant frigate prerequisite.
If you have Amarr/Caldari/Gallente/Minmatar Cruiser 4 and Battlecruisers 5, you will get all four (Amarr/Caldari/Gallente/Minmatar) Battlecruiser skills at L5.
you WILL NOT get any SP to freely apply to whatever you like. You will however get approximately 6m SP added to your current SP count, accounting for those eight skills, assuming you warrant L5 of all four Dessie and BC skills.
*NOTE-- IIRC, the prereq for BC is going DOWN to [Racial] Cruiser 3 with the summer update. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia Malcanis for CSM8 |

You only get SP reimbursed IF and only if you have the destroyer skill trained without any prerquired frig to level 3 (unlikely to meet). Or battlecruiser skill trained wirhout any cruiser skill.
The change in skillplan of people is to trainone skill now and instead of 4 different ones after the patch. |

Currently what happens is this:
You train Caldari Frigate to 4 - you can fly Caldari frigates well.
You train Destroyers to 4 - you can fly Caldari destroyers well. Even though the "Destroyers" skill is generic, because of the prerequisites that are listed on the ships themselves, you'll only be able to fly the Caldari Destroyers.
You then train Gallente Frigate to 4 - and you can suddenly fly Gallente frigates AND Gallente Destroyers. The generic "Destroyers" skill suddenly applies to more ships.
CCP wants to change this so that you train a skill and you get a ship, not 2 ship lines. So instead of a generic "Destroyers" skill, they're splitting it into 4 skills: Caldari Destroyers, Gallente Destroyers, Amarr Destroyers, and Minmatar Destroyers.
But how to reimburse people? How to make the transition once they make the change?
So what will happen is this:
- Your generic "Destroyers" skill will be removed. - If you have Caldari Frigate trained to 3, you will get a Caldari Destroyer skill added to your character. - If you have additional frigate skills (Gallente, Amarr, Minmatar), you will get the Gallente, Amarr, or Minmatar Destroyer skills also added to your character.
So, basically, you can gain more skill points than others by training additional frigates now. |

"More skill points" doesn't get you anything, except a more expensive clone. It is true that if you will be getting the racial BC's to 5 at some point, you will save a lot of time by doing it before the split. But if you have no interest in specializing in BC's, then it's a waste to train BC to 5, now or later. Too many people are pushing the "must train BC and Dessie to 5" thing, even to 1 or 2 month old characters. To a new player, it's quite bad advice.

I agree.
Only train dessie and BC 5 if you intend to use those ships now or in the future. Training just cause others shout you ahould is wrong.
I have 6 accounts yet I only trained 1 character to 5 as I intend to use the T2 ships on that one. |

Yea, starting an alt on a new account, who you're prepared to keep in station while he skills up only ship skills for now , is pretty much you're only option to make the most of the summer changes from this point on.
Then train all other skills after the change.
Make the most of the remaps, and +4 implants could still get the job done while you play you're main in the meantime.
But to the OP, if you can't understand the dev blog, don't even try this! If thats beyond you you'll mess it up for sure.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about slamming out BC 5 and Destroyers 5 before the summer, for a few reasons: 1. You may not actually make it in time, and who knows if CCP will give you SP for how far into lvl5 you are, or say tough sh!t and wipe all your progress from lvl4-->5. Reason number 2. Training such extensive skills will dilute your early game experience, where support skills and basic ship skills are the most crucial. 3. You will most likely get bored during the 30 odd days it takes to train BC5, and you can either sit through it, get bitter, and quit, go afk for a month and not play (why did you buy and account in the first place?), or stick through it like a man while doing minimal other activities. Considering it will be a few months before you could even fly a BC competently with sufficient support skills, I would say do not go for lvl5. Destroyers 5 and BC 4 (along with your assorted cruisers to 3) is perfectly feasible, as it will only take around 2 weeks to complete that.
To summarize teh wall of text, just stick to your support skills/skills you need for now, and don't worry about training for ships that you cannot effectively pilot (SP wise) |

Oh yes. Because a forum post by a fellow EVE player is much more official then a Dev-blog post by an actual CCP Employee

Oh, you mean once something is in dev blog there no way it can change later? And being allready in q&a forum and in thread about question in hand, it's just silly to ask?
Well, whatever.
I agree that we disagree about need for asking that question and that you probably are right.

What you might want to bare in mind though, is that if you've already trained (or are training now) BC to 4 or 5, then training the other races Frigate to 4 and Cruiser to 3 now as well, will save you training that races BC after the change.
You will then be given each races BC skill that on the change date.

True. Stuff can change. But when it does...it will be said in a new Dev blog. So far there have been 3 (yes. THREE) Dev blogs in the last 5 months about the up coming skill change. ALL saying that it is level 3, and that is not something they have to change. Because it's not something that can be overpowered / not powerful enough like with changes to ship stats.
