Hello everyone,
At this juncture not a single person knows me in game. Such a sad state of affairs. I started playing Eve in July of 2004 and have never stopped since. Lately though the past 2 or so years I have been finding less and less reasons to log in and play. The game has changed greatly, in many many fantastic ways, but feel the charm and the draw and the expanse that I first felt when I had 50k skill points is lost now.
Now with 130 million skillpoints I am feeling the burden. I have done pretty much everything there is to do in the Eve universe. I have done Piracy, and was pretty well known back in the day for it, 0.0 Large alliance leadership and politics, Industry, missioning, production, tech II BPO ownership, wormholes, exploration, and everything in between. Even fought in the second alliance tournament. 99% of my friends have stopped playing and I have been doing stuff on my own for quite a while, getting by with small groups here or there. People say the key to the game is to find a group of people to have fun with, and I agree. It is damn hard with my level of experience and SP to find a nice group that doesn't care, and just wants to have fun. Nature of the game I suppose.
I by no means want to quit playing, I love this game and I love this universe. I want to find that magic that brought me into the game in the first place. What is there for an old crotchety vet like myself to do? What keeps Eve real for you? |

ya know, i felt like this when i played EQ. I played on a PvP server, so it was pretty fun... but still games get stale.
my advice, take some time away, maybe 3 months. Evaluate what you miss most, and then return and frenzy that you miss most.
Nothing can ever bring back the magic, that is why its magical... Age is the magic killer.
What keeps EVE real to me is likely to make you laugh out loud. I still get magic feet from even the prospect of PvP, likely why i have tons of frigates and love FW. |

Hello.
A suggestion would be to write about your past experiences for others to gain a bit of a history lesson. You mentioned how you were part of the second alliance tournament. You could do a comparison on how the competition was geared then compared to today. How back then various aspects were ground breaking and are part of the foundation for today's tournament. How the game has changed, how the players' attitude towards the game has changed - not the expansions and patches, but the personalized aspect then to now. Depending upon your stance, you could compare how players were inclined to newer players then compared to how players envision newer players today. You could describe many of the firsts within the game.
Granted these are not "in-game" aspects, but if you are geared towards writing, then offer what many, many others were not able, and will never be able, to experience - the earliest of early days.
Just a thought. |

I feel you. Been here since beta but bounced in and out for my sanity.
Start a new old-timers corp. Get more people like you in there, learn to appreciate Eve all over again. |

I stopped playing 2 years ago and gave my old toon away, so im having to start again from scratch and I'm having a blast. |

I completely understand. I've had a long break due to RL stuff taking over, but have been in the same position in the past.
A break always refreshes Eve for me, it may help you.

Have you tried anti-GCC pirate roams? I get a lot of satisfaction from them. With your SPs, you should ROCK at it. |

I'm a little bit hurt that you discount our 'relationship.' (No, not sexual you perverts, just some business dealings, and harmless activities we did together.
As such, I must call you out on your falsehood. Additionally, I am sure I am not the only one who remembers, or knew you.
Jk. Did I get your hopes up? |

I guess it can be said that I too am a vet and on some days I feel like you do. (not quite 130m SP though.. Grats)
I started this toon and am beginning at the beginning again... It has actually been a blast so far.

Don't mistake fact for arrogance, supposition for fact, or disagreement for dismissal. Perception is unique in that it can be shared or be singular. Run with the pack if you wish, but think for yourself. A sandwich can be a great motivator. |

Yeah I know what your saying. You are most likely on a downer, it happens.
Try rolling a alt, relive those golden years. Or take up helping youngsters.
I don't know. It's mostly up to the individual to pull them selves out of the doldrums. Don't give up.

people create alts for that type of anonymity. it's better that way-- most aren't worth knowing.

I like how everyone is trying to encourage you to stay, like it means something.
Perhaps you should quit, if you feel like this then theres obviously a reason and nothing anyone says will change that, why not give RL a go and try to win that |

Free your mind, thrash your character and give your assets to old friends or a random newbie. Start from scratch, refuse to do boring stuff and this time do something entirely different than you have done before. I've restarted.... 7 times now in EVE for no other reason than "pfff, bored" and it's like beinf reborn each and every time. The second you let go of "crutches" like SP or wallet and try to perform purely on your knowledge is the second you start to appreciate the game more and you'll probably find your fun again.
We stick around because it's easier to keep playing than it is to stop, be it the game itself, your playstyle or your corp. So if you feel that it's past its peak don't stick to it as that'll just make you dislike the whole situation more and more. Burn your bridges, take a 1-3 months break and start from zero with no old/outside help. Amat victoria curam. Excellence in everything.

I feel exactly like you do right now. Stepped down from leading a corp and alliance, part due to RL part because Eve became to serious and I want that old charm back, I even stopped trolling and arguing with snotshot on teh forums.... Not sure exactly how this will roll now though.. Watch this space I guess. Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing. |

It can start to feel a bit stale after a while.
I've been here since May 2003 and I found taking a break now and again is a good idea, set a long skill going, forget about Eve and play something else. I find after a couple of months my enthusiasm returns and I come back.
The other thing I found helpful is to help new start-up corps to get on their feet, it's rewarding and some of the old wonder rubs off on you if its a real newb (rather than vet) corp. |
