Where EVE is concerned, Mittens and Chribba are far more worth reading about, and I still can't think of one reason to care about them unless they've done something or been a part of something cool.

I can't stand celebrity hype. Bad things happen to people when said people bring up celebrities IRL. How many celebrities out there are actually worthy of their fame? What is it that they've actually accomplished, and who's to say that given the same opportunities they had, no one else could possibly fill the same shoes? You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

I like to look at someone famous and be in awe of the particular thing they can do that I cannot.
I watched in awe during the Ryder Cup as those guys hit golf shots continuously that I can only dream of doing once by fluke. I watch in awe of Patrick Stewart's incredible delivery on stage and screen. I watched in awe as Mo Farah ran to victory in both the 10,000 and 5,000m at the Olympics
But there's a whole heap of so called celebrities who are apparently famous for just having appeared on TV at some point for whatever reason. We all know who they are and I tend to avoid most modern TV because of it, prefering to watch DVDs, Blu Rays and online streaming services. |

Confirming with 99.9% accuracy that Chribba is in fact, Samuel L Jackson, the Mittani is Queen Elizabeth II, and the Wiz is Jessica Alba. I have determined this through careful analysis of video footage from Fanfest.
Also, I am Denzel Washington. Join the Revolutionary Front and liberate New Eden from it's stuff.

Someone being able to do something that you can't do is not a celebrity. It's highly likely that there are things that you can do that they cannot - should they be in awe of you? I'm not particularly fond of anyone just because they have a special athletic or sporting ability that I do not.
But you're right, I tend to find there are people I admire for their talents and achievements, as well. John Rzeznik writes all my favourite music, pretty much... but even then, I can't say I admire him beyond the fact that he is an excellent songwriter, with a myriad of songwriter awards to prove it. And the fact that his band, the Goo Goo Dolls (I know, silly name, but if you've heard their music, and you probably have, you would agree that they are one of the few greats left in the musical arts), can continue to write and produce original and snappy music in this day and age of manufactured talent is quite astonishing. As is the fact that their band has been together for thirty years now. While they've only released nine studio albums, the quality of their music far exceeds the lack of quantity as compared to other "artists". I can say I admire them for staying true to their style, form, and roots, but not so much because they're :wowfamous:, because there are a couple of local bands that I hold in such regard that I can almost call them on par with Johnny Rzeznik's Goo Goo Dolls.
I don't care about Jessica Alba just because she's pretty and had a few leading roles in some movie or another. I can't think of anything that any of the above three listed actors have achieved beyond being famous for leading roles in a few good movies. There is very little, IMO, to admire them for. If I saw Nathan Fillion's name on the list, I might have gotten a LITTLE more excited, because I do actually like his roles, but then I would have remembered that it is his roles I like, but I don't actually know enough about the guy to find him worthy of any kind of celebrity worship.
And if I was to meet Johnny Rzeznik IRL... I might jump for joy a little, because their music got me through some really rough patches in my life, but beyond that, I'd probably just invite him and the band out for a beer and shoot the ****. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

Yes, yes they should.
But being serious, I suppose that in my head I have two catagories of famous people that I define thusly:
1) Those who got really good at something and then became famous for it. 2) Those who became famous and then went on to do something.
Those in catagory 1 I respect and would be privilaged to meet. Those in catagory 2 can bugger off. |
