Edited by: EvilSnik on 02/06/2005 15:22:06 This will undoubtedly get abig thumbs up from a lot of the community
But just a thought for something that could be a nice huge Database hog etc and for something else the devs to have a focus on, could we please have serial numbers added to all the ships.
We could then have a new profession of 'Ship Spotters' sitting outside the docking bays of stations with thier tacky video cameras noting down the numbers.
Not quiet sure what the risk vs. reward factor for this profession could be - but any comments welcome.
EDIT - Need to clarify a little to ehlp you all along a little think 'Train Spotters' and think humour

CCP already give each item (hence each ship) a unique ID, which I am sure is passed to the client.
Just a case of programming it into the UI.

Im not seeing the point to this... Why would ships have serial numbers? What would you do with them? Do you really want that much more lag? Do you want a more dull alternitive to mining? Please elaborate.

Serial numbers for faction and event ships could be interesting, almost.

I kinda would love to have ships creator's name to the ships so it would be like "Megathron build by Arcticblue2" for example.
Would be nice for producers to see for example heyy a ship I built... even exist today.

Would anyone like to take a minute and explain to the rest of us what 'Train Spotting' is? I'm sure there is some big fun going on here, but it is clearly over my head.

Edited by: Seto Mazzarotto on 03/06/2005 13:52:27 I can't think of Trainspotting in any context that doesn't involve drugs.
Can someone elaborate, please?

Lol @ the thread
Train spotting is a hobby that was much more "out in the open" in the 70s, when (mainly) men would spend their days sat by a railway track making a note of train's serial numbers, that were printed on the side of each train.
Then someone decided to take the pi55, which caught on and thus trainspotting was considered to be *really* nerdy.
From Wikipedia:
"The term "train spotter" is often used as a derogatory term towards someone perceived to have an enthusiasm for acquiring or hoarding detailed or humdrum information. It was translated in French as the neologism Ferrovipathe which literally means "railway disorder". --------------------------- |

AND- I once sat next to a fella on the bus (in the UK) and he was..... BUS spotting and had a m8 in the seat in front doing the same, they were talking about which routes to watch.. When "ow look its ***** "(man I 4got) and they got very happy, I looked and saw a red bus... and plane spotters.... why why why...

We used to do Border Spotting at school. Borders were lorries that travelled between Scotland and England. They all had names like Border King and Border Queen.
I remember it being fun at the time, but I can't imagine ship spotting in Eve being much fun at all. ----------------------- Honor and Serve!

U stay outside if U want, but if I ever have to do something like that, I¦ll stay inside the ship where it is nice and warm, and i can have some dancers cheering me up from doing something that could possibly be more dull than doing 30 jumps on a barge with no speed module!!
i¦m doing dancers advance skill to lvl5!! It ain¦t a dress, it¦s a freakin KILT!!! Dunni make me thump¦ya!! |
