I have a question regarding the condition of the dead. I hope those with experience in this topic will be so kind as to educate me.
I have about 5 implants in my head. Several of those boost my basic stats. I also have a clone with many more skill points than I currently possess. I have heard that when people get pod-killed they sometimes lose skill points even though they ought to have been covered by the quality of their clone.
I have a theory that when you lose your implants, the skills you learned while having those implants are decimated, as though you never had them.
My question is: What will happen to me when I die? I will very likely expand into the PvP arena (since there is a certain corp I want to wardec on.) I'm just trying to assess what the consequences might be. I am not afraid to lose the implants. I just don't want to retrain a lot of skills.

Edited by: Thanit on 26/05/2005 13:19:20 Ive died with implants in my head, lost no skillpoints.
Afaik the skillpoint loss bug is extremely rare if not a myth to start with. I clonejump about once a week on average nowadays, never lost a single point.

There are 2 issues that I've heard of that might be causing problems :
1. If you are training a long skill, the character sheet doesn't update with your current amount of skillpoints. This makes it possible to get more skillpoints than what your current clone covers without you realizing it. (Workaround : Switch skills every now and then to check your current total skillpoints, and then change back).
2. Some players have reported upgrading their clone, only to get podkilled a short while later and lose skillpoints. My theory is that this is probably due to lag - the new clone isn't registered properly yet, and thus you lose skillpoints. Waiting until downtime should fix it though.
I don't know if the 2nd issue is really true, but that's how I've understood it from some (rather upset) forum posts a while ago.

Shurely Shome Mishtake?
Where is the penalty? if people want to play pirates, then they should bear the risk of serious character decimation if caught without an up-to-date clone. Equally, if other characters are dumb enough to venture into non-secure space or engage in PvP without an up to date clone, they they also should reap the whirlwind.

Spoken like someone with only a few million skill points. :) Try losing 5% when you have 25 million.

Imagine this scenario :
You've been playing for 6 months. You have your head full of implants, and you are carrying a hauler full of trit somewhere deep in 0.0. Suddenly you get attacked, and it doesn't take long until you get podkilled.
You wake up in Yulai, and suddenly you get this creepy "omgdidiupgrademyclonelasttimeigotkilled" feeling. You are afraid to look, but you still bring up your charactersheet. You have to know.
"You currently have 86 skills and 312,548 skillpoints."
Now, do you :
1. Quit 2. Leave 3. Reprocess your character 4. Cry 5. Go to buy a new keyboard+monitor, you don't remember how it happened but they are broken now 6. All of the above

Though I might quit for a little while first and cry. ----------------

as long as your "clone" can hold the amount of skill points you currently have trained you lose only your "implants".. Not fun for the more expensive varieties, but at least your skill trains are safe. Hope that helps

I feel a lot better about things now. As I said, I am not afraid of losing the implants, and if podded, I will not replace them. I was mostly concerned about the SP.
BTW, when did this 5% only sp loss take effect? I was unaware of this.

That's why i'm keeping my clone all the time "up to date".. So that won't happen to me..
About the implant loss in the pod kill, I would cry a little for 300m worth of implant loss..

Iamgine me going from 14.5 mill to 30k
No way id go thru the trouble of building up a character again.
I'd simply leave the game as soon as the petition came back telling me I wasnt gonna get most or all of my SP back.
// Edit: Oh and the answer is probably 5, 3, 1, 4 in that order

I recently lost 256k skillpoints in going from evasive manuvering 5 down to evasive manuvering 4. Seems I forgot to upgrade my clone after getting pod killed , even though I do this regularly when I clone jump this time apparently I had been drinking and flying and got podded again 30 min later.
now you say 256k skillpoints not that much, well it so happens that this skill is the one that lets you train for intercepters so I couldnt fly my inti for 2 weeks afterwards while I retrained it.
Retraining a particularly long skill that you had trained particularly long just recently really sucks. I must say that this almost caused me to cancel the account, why on earth didnt they just take some carebear skill I trained when I first started back to 0 rather than take away a skill like evasive manuvering.
Oh well such is eve, can be extreamly frustrating at times.

Its been there since the beginning, IIRC. You lose 5% of the difference between your char and your clone. -- The best description of alliances, ever:
