Before anyone streaks at the world chess championships final or commits seppuku with a Frisbee, let me assure you no such rpg exists. It's just an idea I am currently in the painful process of having. You are not a starship, but in fact a person on some kind of thing.
Everything is already in place for Eve to become an excellent single player RPG with a deep and involving plot. There are so many avenues for the storyline to take and exploit it's mind boggling. There are races, character attributes, and items already in the universe for your avatar to have.
I do feel that the excellent back story is underused in the plot of the gate atm. Although it's quite difficult to implement effectively in an mmog.
But imagine... the player could be an Amarr security minister uncovering some terrible corruption in the Sarum family who he works for. It goes all the way to the top! Will the player choose to become part of the plot in exchange for riches? Will he be betrayed? Should be expose it?
Or perhaps, set right in the middle of the Caldari / Gallente war, the player is a worker in the government of the Gallente. The president has just hired you after firing long-trusted employees no longer trusted. What is happening? Who can you trust? How will you deal with the ever-increasing Caldari threat? Or put the player in one of the caldari mega-corps. It is down to you who will come out on top, the militant corps or the passive corps. Influence the outcome of the war!
Don't even get me started on a Minmatar plot. Inter-tribe politics? Honour? Family? Exile? Voluval?
The player works for concord. Serving aboard a top-secret concord titan created with the vast hoarded wealth from taxes, fines and confiscated items, he must decide the course of action for overflowing danger from pod-pilot pirates.
Could be in a player alliance even, or just a freelancer that gets caught up in some deep plot.
Intersplice these with maybe some love, and some topics covered in the Eve Chronicles...
Sure there is a lot of excellent fiction covering some of these topics, made by the community. Likewise there are some excellent books. But there is a difference between reading a good story and playing a good RPG, where the player can interact and become part of the world, while making decisions that effect it.
Feedback plz. Did Tubbs do good?

Sounds like a good idea, but think about all the carebears that would buy it and never log in again
On the other hand, it would cool to play in downtime

This is not first time this been proposed.
I'd like to see it happen. Sometimes it's just annoying that other people are on.. rah rah rah.
Besides, publishing and selling Eve Offline would finally increase suscriptions of eve online players. Or then not. But, nevertheless. It would be great.

get the people that did kotor to do it
would be awsome if you start as a normal guy totaly oblivous to the politics in the world and then would be swept away in a conflict having to decide which faction he should support

yeah.. how do you know... everybody but you in this game might be npc's - a part of a huge elaborate hoax, yet brilliantly written computer program designed to act like a human being - gank0r or carebear.
you didnt know it already.. but your name is Truman.

Would be great, and would drag more players in the online version, once finished with the "off-line" one.
Years after Privateer 2: the darkening, and still looking for a similar game.............

Or how about an EVE Offline/Off Computer game... like Warhammer or Battletech... little eve pewter figures, etc... think that CCP could make a mint off that, even though I wouldn't buy it. lol.

An RTS would be nice. I'd buy it if it cost 50% cheaper for me as an eve-online subscriber _______________________________________________

I was expecting this to be a post whining about PvP'ers and wanting to 'run agent missions without being killed by nasty people'.
but good idea. interresteding.
i always throught a large scale RTS version of EVE would be an awsome idea - like homeworld on ***** with a better storyline and better art and better graphics, spanning the galaxy - basically so anyone could command huge fleets of ships that where AI controlled instead of first having to become an admiral of an alliance or somthing :P

I like Hired Goon's post.
But part of me thinks that an Eve game should always be in a ship.
But the other part of me worries that only PvPers would continue to play Eve Online.

EVE would finally be what it was meant to be. Mind you right now all the carebears exist to help pay CCP's salaries so they can make an excellent PvP game for all the real players.

I occasionally would like to be able to run my own Eve test server... :)
Though I guess that would tempt too many people to just play on their own personal server and not log on.
Maybe just a "ship config and battle simulator" which is the only thing I ever tested on the test server anyway. Don't know, just rambling.

I don't think CCP would do this because of the financial implications... (loss of subsciption, piracy, and simply that it would be a 1 time payment). Though I like the possibility that there could be some uber storylines... like 50+ missions in a row. That would be sweet.

I think the D20 idea is the most credible. It wouldn't be that difficult to design around what we already know about the mechanics of EVE. It's burn some of the old D20 concepts away tho, such as how level progression happens.
I'll look into it some and see what I can come up with. Stay tuned.

I actually remeber an "EVE story" game on the dreamcast. the ships were actualy visually the same as some of the TII components, (which put me onto it) and the races were the same. I do not know if the game was originally for the DC or if i had a converted disk, but the game was called Armada, and it was alot of fun, in a simple kind of way.
Anyone else remember this?

Bang Gunship Elite? Only space game I can think of for the DC (and I was no good at it)

Nah, it was called "Armada" and it definatly had the eve races in it, unified to defend the galaxy against an invading alien force force. as i say i do not know if it was originally for the DC, as I got it on import. It did rock though.

Sounds interesting, definitely worth a few seconds for me to google it!
Ticondrius, It would be really amazing if you could actually come up with something like this. I was actually thinking, maybe a mod for Neverwinter Nights / 2, wherein all the rules and tilesets are made. That way, members of the Eve community who do all that great fiction could make their own modules! ------------

Hey, just create a "paper" RPG (how d'you say that in english? "table" RPG? bah you know what I mean, a normal one, with biers, coffee, RL friends, D100 and so on), that would certainly be great ! you could even use the D20 thingy I guess.... Everything would be possible, and that wouldn't prevent anyone to play the 'online' RPG anyway ;-)
/me starts dreaming... wandering with my mates under the dusty skies on Pator... experienced characters piloting Titans... GOD I have to create Dreadnaughts in my usual heroic-fantasy RPG
