Seven Clans good. Nouvelle Rouvenor bad.
Jukebox should stay until a decent replacement is available. Having no option to skip tracks, play my favourite tracks or otherwise interest with the music is really distracting me from enjoying the game. Doubt it. Turn the slider for music down down down. I did that on my 2nd day in eve. Never slid to the right again..
Aw man, don't be sad dude. I love the music in EVE and I have it on pretty often. Not a noob here either, been around awhile and love the old (and new) music.
Just 2c from a guy who DOES keep his sound and music on in EVE, most of the time. |

I love EVE music. I really do. But after Retribution I had to turn off music volume to zero because there is no way to turn off "combat tracks".
Two features that I like to see in client settings: Turn off combat music option. For my taste combat musis is too intense and it wont stop playing when you warp-out from deadspace pocket. Mute sounds when client in background option. When you run two clients at once from one folder, sounds will mix into the cacophony.

+1
My need for the jukebox would be alleviated by Mute sounds when client in background, and a keyboard shortcut to stop/start the music. EVE is a sandbox; The only "end-game" content in EVE is the crap that makes you rage-quit.

"As part of building a cohesive experience, marrying graphics, design and sound, we want the music to play in context of where you are and what you are doing."
okay .. I get that you're trying to build a sound scape to match the scenery. BUT... "we want the music" we're the paying customer so its not about what you want but what we want. (lesson still to be learned)
I love music. I love the music in eve. I love variety as well. I will no longer have that variety in eve. So if your plan was to cause players to WANT to disable the sound ... I think you will succeed.
"Maintaining an mp3 player inside EVE, while there are much better media players out there doesnGÇÿt make much sense to us. Keep in mind that all code in EVE needs to be maintained. UIs are upgraded, codecs need upgrading, code is refactored, defects need to be resolved. By removing redundant pieces of code from our codebase, we free up engineering time to maintain, iterate and develop other features which are more important and core to the spaceship game EVE. As we move forward with EVE development, iterating and adding features, we have to be ready to cut off dead branches and prune our garden so to speak.
By placing the music on Soundcloud, we are providing those that still want to customize their own playlists with the existing EVE soundtrack the ability to do so. We opted for that route rather than maintaining two systems, both the new system and the jukebox, as that is an extra development effort, again, taking away resources from more important things. Like always, your feedback is important to us. Let us know if you agree or disagree with this move. Remember though, by removing extraneous functionality, we have more time to work on other things."
Well its a good thing we're close to snow fall ... my snow shovel was close at hand. What a load of horse manure !
I do not buy any of that for a minute as a valid reason for the Jukebox removal. It simply got in the way of >your< "sound scape" so you took it away, banking on a majority having the attitude "what , there is sound in eve ??" and not noticing. Ooops ! |

So, they built a new system and then tore down the old one to save the effort of maintaining two systems...

I've always liked the Eve music, but I liked the jukebox as a game feature even more.
Not sure why it was removed - Eve has been the only MMO I've played over the years where I had other options besides "listen to whatever music the devs feel like providing for an area" and "turn the music off for good". |

Microsoft did it with Windows 8. They have failed.
Ok i understand that maintaining music inside the client ineeds resources and maintenance. I know that placing music outside the client is much better. But it is possible to make controls for it ingame?
You know, music is outside the client (soundcloud) but controls for it (jukebiox) are inside the client. I think that this solution should "feed both sides". No maintenance for devs and no "alt-tabing-to-select-track" for players. GÇ£If reality can destroy the dream, why shouldn't the dream destroy reality?GÇ¥ |

This
The long and the short of it is, laziness. Pure laziness, I realize coding is hard, so hard in fact that I don't do it and have never tried, but the reason for it is because ITS NOT MY ****ING JOB, it IS however CCP's job and they didn't do it. They cut out a useful feature in the game, cause it made their job easier.
Imagine if ford just quit putting radios in mustangs, hey they got rid of some wires, and it took less time to put the car together! well good for you, unfortunately the customer suffers, but CCP knows how much the eve community likes to suffer, so its not that much of a worry to them, just an easier job. |

Well, everybody needs to make their mark. And changing a feature that was probably perceived to be unused by a large part of the population ("EVE has sound?") seems like a safe bet. So you remove the ability for your customers to personalize a piece of the game experience, and hand them a new and better integrated environment.
The same people that weren't listening to the music before aren't listening to it now, plus even more people aren't listening now. It's a win!

I want to see it returned also. Having to tab out to change music on the media player is a hassle and the only safe time to do it is when docked up, then if I'm in the mood for the Eve music again then i have to stop the media player, go back into eve, press esc to open the menu and turn the music back up, then if a tune plays that I don't like then it's back to turning it back down, tabbing back to media player and turning that back on. On a low end computer or laptop, all the tabbing would cause the computer to lock up whilst they switched, which turns a hassle into an issue, and not everybody has the graces of a media keyboard so they can skip tracks, replay tracks or pause the music.
Whilst removing the jukebox isn't going to cause the same kind of uproar as say... the riot Incarna caused when people were forced to upgrade to pixel shader 3, it has annoyed a lot of people that a function that has been working since launch has been removed, and taken away one of the things that made Eve unique over other mmos. |

I like the new sounds they introduced (That is why I do not slide the thing all the way to the left - even when in fleet). Those new sounds really make me feel as if I was in a sci-fi/horror movie. It finally gives the impression that space is a dark and cold place where anything can jump on you at every second. Now if they could just remove local....

Alduin666 Shikkoken wrote:Lanrick wrote:having a check box would be nice since you can leave the music volume set to a comfortable level for yourself. It would also make it easier to add a keyboard shortcut to toggle music on and off. Say to mute the music while listening to teamspeak. Just a thought. This is the configuration I prefer in most other games. In EVE I tend to have the music off and instead play a funk and acid jazz station in the background so it doesn't matter to me either way.
BTW, why was the jukebox removed? They made it so that different sounds or songs play when your in high, low, null, or w-space. Different variations of these songs/sounds play depending on whether your in combat, mining, the amount of ships destroyed in the last hour in the system, etc. I can see why they did it and it is an interesting concept, but this shouldn't be a mini-incarna. They should give us the choice to have it the new way or just click a button or check a box to have the old jukebox back. If I had an option in my old jukebox to play "ambient music that changes with surroundings", I'd check it and leave it checked most of the time. But every once in a while I'm going to want to pick a song.
The jukebox was one of the things that really impressed me with EVE, that really set it apart from other games and made it special. Please bring it back!! I'm literally suffering from jukebox withdrawal. When I start EVE, I immediately try to open up the jukebox and play with it. It's one of the first things I'd do every time I log in, and I can't get used to not having it. My brain just doesn't want to accept that it's gone. If you put it back, I'll forget that it was ever gone and we can put this whole thing behind us! -á"The Mittani: Hated By Badposters i'm strangely comfortable with it" -Mittens |
