Edited by: Cmdr Patrick on 25/04/2005 22:53:21 If you have firefox and want it to load a little faster (and havn;y already doen this) give this a shot.
1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now.

Yea, this tweak's been going around for a little while. I got it off a couple different places.
One thing, though. It won't have any effect if you're a dialup user. It's mainly to take advantage of broadband's massive download speeds. ---------- I'm not going to protect you from your own stupidity. I'm a space pirate, not your mother. |

If 30 people are trying to view a site and Mr Joe Riced Up Firefox user connects 30 times in one go, those other 29 people are screwed.
Nope, it works different. Those connects are not persistent, they only last for some milliseconds on broadbands. First check out how much connections internet explorer opens before you point your finger btw ;)
and on another note: it's the MAX connections FF uses, not standard, it depends on the page.

Quote: Windows will limit connections to a single HTTP 1.0 server to four simultaneous connections. Connections to a single HTTP 1.1 server will be limited to two simultaneous connections. The HTTP 1.1 specification (RFC2068) mandates the two connection limit while the four connection limit for HTTP 1.0 is a self-imposed restriction which coincides with the standard used by a number of popular Web browsers.
