WHAT IF...everybody had a "distress beacon" button, and if anything happens to you that would make CONCORD show up, the button lights up and flashes red or yellow or whatever, and you can punch the button to summon CONCORD to do its duty...but if it was just a friend accidentally catching you with his smartbomb or doing something else that you're not angry about, you can just choose to ignore the button and nothing happens. This isn't just a practical thing, it's also about the RPG aspect of the game, I mean the police only show up if you dial 911 (or whatever the police number is in your country of choice), they don't magically appear whenever something bad happens...so why does CONCORD just appear on their own whenever something happens that they don't approve of? ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ |

If you could kill someone before they could punch the button, you could kill them before CONCORD shows up WITHOUT the button system. That really isn't the point. But I WOULD like to see how you do against Latex Mistress and Fuse :) ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ |

What a great Idea... you could even take it further, because of the hi-tech universe that eve is, and have your ship AUTOMATICALLY call CONCORD when you are attacked!!
That way, they would just show up without you having to worry.
oh.. wait... that already happens. -- jamesw Rubra Libertas Militia

Ugh, can't you think for a minute about the REASON for my idea, before you shoot your mouth off? The whole point is that you DON'T automatically call CONCORD in situations where you DON'T want somebody to get killed because your drone accidentally slipped into the radius of his smartbomb or whatever. Fine, if it's SO much of a trouble to you just to punch one stupid button, we could make it optional and let you set it to auto-call CONCORD like it does now. The whole idea is to give you OPTIONS. You remind me of all those liberals who think that everybody's life should be controlled by rules that make all their decisions for them and never have any choice for themselves, or to do anything on their own. Or maybe you ARE one.
Do us all a favor and think up a productive -- or at least humorous -- thing to say before posting. ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ |

Untrue. CONCORD does not hesistate, panic or go afk when serving justice. They cover your six 23/7 with brutal efficiency.
Players do hesitate, they do panic (especially new players) and they might have to go AFK. Hell most players go AFK while travelling in empire anyway.
In the end, everyone would have to camp their 911 button while travelling in empire, so that a raven doesn't slip them 5 torps at the crowded niyabainen/kemerk gates. No chatting/surfing! Camp that button!
All this because someone doesn't have the common sense to know how to use smartbombs in empire? No thanks tbh.

Sounds like a good idea, as long as the option is there in settings or summint to "auto-call" as well.
Sadly, some people here seem to miss the point of your post

******* stupid idea tbh
Noob gets pwnd by bs .. noob sits screaming "WTFHAXPLOIT" before hitting said button and is podded back to Kisogo (or wherever) Noob then hits button and concord harmlessly circle a station..
meh plus half the noobs that have been in game 5 minutes wouldnt know what the button was.. and iether wouldnt press it. or would press it well after their ship had been pwnd by some griefer.
or take afk people... Piarte warps in.. pwns afk bs .. Casually takes loot and heads back to low sec.
The idea has too many holes in it..

I think this is far from a 'stupid idea'. All of the holes you point out are solved by having the auto summon option that the poster mentioned. I assume it would be on by default and you would have to manually turn it off, so noobs should be protected every bit as much as now. The only difference would be more experienced players who aren't afk can choose to switch it off. If you had turned off auto summon and you go afk then you deserve what you get.

I totally agree with the 3 or 5 sec button that would call Concord off.
If someone smartbombs your can or drone, you then have up to 5 secs to hit the flashing button to call Concord off.
I lost my Cyclone the other day because I fired a missile at a Rat just after he blew up, automatically the ore can (Belonging to an alliance member) was targeted and the missile hit that.
I lost my Cyclone to Concord because I accidently hit a can !?!?!
If there was 3 to 5 secs for the alliance member to call off Concord, I will be a lot better off now.
Top idea, would be nice to see it implemented.

I had posted almost the exact same idea about a year ago, actually. :) It's probably still floating around in Idea Lab somewhere.
My idea also included a dwindling force size and longer response lag time the further out from empire you got, and also involved local military force response. Standings would obviously play a huge factor into this.

To the people who just read the topic title, or just read half the post (or only paid attention to half) and then started complaining that it's a stupid idea: This was an intelligence test. You failed.
To everybody else: Thank you, and the idea of making it a "call off CONCORD" button rather than a "call CONCORD" button is interesting, maybe part of the feature would be that you can set it to either be a "call" or "call off" button. I always like to have more options available :) ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ |

At first I loved this idea... I thought it made great sense.
BUT, some deaths are just too swift to be able to press the button before you die. What if you were in a frigate, and someone launched 3 torpedoes at you without your knowing it? BOOOOM! You're in your pod before you can hit the button

Like I said, it's a choice. If you want to be absolutely certain that CONCORD insta-ganks anybody who touches you, then you can leave it on auto-call. If you want a little more control, you can use the button instead. You have to make a choice based on the tradeoffs, just like everything else in the EVE universe.
Oh and for that specific situation...(A) they can't launch the torpedoes until they lock you, which gives you warning, and a battleship takes a while to lock a frigate. (B) Even with the system we have now, CONCORD still won't be able to show up and kill the battleship before you die. And just cuz your ship gets blown up, doesn't mean that you can't still hit the button. ___________________________________________ ^^^***---All things serve the Beam---***^^^ |
