I am not sure, and a person told me it is against the rules, but I have seen people doing it. I posted a thread here( http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=164603 )and I want to know if it is OK or if I am breaking a rule. What do you think?

It's ok.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

Yes, it's OK. But be careful, since it's easily scammed. There is no trade window/escrow for trading characters, after all. And you can only trade characters, NOT accounts. And the seller pays the bill for trading characters, not the buyer. ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |

Youre allowed to sell Characters for ISK Youre not allowed to sell Characters for Real Money Youre not allowed to sell accounts at all.
Also, sinc the Char transfer between accounts costs $20 didnt CCP say they would hunt down and ban anyone who scams using Char transfers?
Id hate to get scammed out of $20... ---------------------------

The person that transfers the character is the one that pays 20$ to CCP. (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

Edited by: Rhonstet on 25/03/2005 20:19:03 CCP sells the time you spend in game. The act of accumulating X money takes (rate of money made) * Time. You pay real money for that time.
If other people could somehow take your game money while not having to pay for the time, that costs CCP real money. Therefore, the TOS could probably be twisted, if not explicitly written, to prohibit that activity. The Monkeysphere |

Not only is buying/selling isk on ebay lame . it is against the eula. Any players even thinking of this should grow up and realise that its a game. ------------------

Read more thoroughly next time. I clearly stated "game money" not "game time". _______________________________________________

But since "isk" is legal currency in Iceland what wrong with converting it to another monetary unit, it would have been wiser for the devs to use a term that didn't directly correlate to a nations monetary system.
Is this a loophole in the EULA?? Do I get a prize now?
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

I dont think there are any laws established to make you a criminal for such an act. However it is against the EULA which makes it against CCP's rules. So you would be breaking a rule to sell isk for real money. Nothing illegal about it.

Why would one like to pay rl money for isk? it defeats the point of playing the game?

Buying charactors for in game isk is prefectly acceptable.
A GM or mod made a post about it a while back. They have also ensured that you will not get scammed. The scammer gets banned. And the seller must pay the RL $20 charge to transfer the charactor.

Edited by: Steel Rage on 10/04/2005 09:57:19 If I make $80 dollars an hour and I don't want to mine, I would buy stuff. I hate mining and they should make it easy so we can fight more and do more. The only thing I miss about other MMORPGs is you can loose allot less. Working for everything is lame and mining is much like digging a ditch (boring). There is nothing wrong for asking money for your time you are actually doing your local economy a favor by letting the $80 an hour guy do his important work you also allow him to play eve. Like it or not the rich in the world do have more freedom.

There is no international law across the planet ATM. What is illegal in Iceland probably is not in Russia. This is just a rule that CCP is using I am not saying I am for it or against it.

Edited by: Viqer Fell on 10/04/2005 10:15:08 That is why contracts state what nationalities legal system has precedence in relation to that specific contract. Hence without being sad enough to read the damned thing I am sure there will be a clause stating which country's law the contract is deemed to be entered into under.
Essentially you can agree to the EULA in any country but any disputes no matter which country you live in or agree to it in are handled under the laws of the country stated , most likely i imagine here, Iceland.
Ok, so what the hell is this Golden Ratio? |

Hmm i Just assumed by clicking on "accept" you were agreeing to the contract, and thus if you broke it you'd be in hot water wherever you were. ccp have the power to ban and cancel accounts that abuse the system as is stated in the EULA so if you get caught and account terminated without warning you will not be legally entitled to a refund. Anyway back to the topic selling in game items is allowed for isk, but not real currency.
As a character is an in game item you can sell it for isk (providing the seller pays the transfer fee). You cant give anyone your account details tho, since these are personaly and arn't ingame items.
Thats the way i iterpret it.
