TL;DR at the bottom Was on an alt. Too lazy to log in and post through that character.
We were doing escalations in our home WH. No bonuses. C5. Core Garrison. Shield Fleet. Chimera, nightmares, loki, etc.
Finishing the second escalation, I had already entered warp with my Archon alt. As the archon was nearing the grid, we had 2 battleships left and were having a laugh. Then, "check, my energy transfer isn't working." Following this, I had just hit the grid with my archon and started to lock up the low skilled nightmare and the loki for energy. The new battleships had just spawned and then you hear, "eh- man, My reps aren't working either!" Now, any reasonable group would have shield reps on the archon at the very least, but we didn't (they are all personal assets and I hadn't been able to get in my new reps and bla bla bla).
Now, I triage at the first hint of danger to the fleet, hoping that I could just make us last until the chimera was back up and running. All subcaps were running damage controls, so it was a gamble. I notice my alt is the primary, stagger reps. Shields drop, and reps aren't holding. The carrier pilot states, "ahh- there we go!" The nightmare alt had 8% structure, 60% armor, and 50% shields as of the moment shield logi was back up. I was ecstatic.
We keep going about our business to finish the site, talking about the close call, and I warp off that same nightmare pilot to get the dread (it can't shoot, but can start the 4th escalation. We were short a cap pilot, so I was just filling the void).
Here's the part that saddened all of us... 1. Land in PoS 2. Right clicks capacitor for ejecting. Ejects. 3. right click to warp to other PoS for the dread. 4. watch nightmare explode behind me, as I enter warp.
Not a single one of us knows of this issue being possible, so we were just going about business. As the ship is exploding and I'm going 'wtf'... the afk guy comes back and says, "let me guess, you ejected from a ship and it exploded?"
Lucky right?
The Carrier The carrier not being able to rep was something about how every time he moused over the modules, he could only overheat them and they wouldn't activate. He said he tried using the F buttons to use them as well and those weren't working. He also tried moving the modules from 1 slot to another (because of another bug in the game that turns modules on indefinitely). The issue was fixed by him ACTUALLY right clicking to overload the rack (his carrier pilot can't even overload) to get the error message that he can't.
Yes, We now know that if your hull is too low, your ship will explode in space.
TL;DR my Nightmare blew up inside the PoS at 100% shields, 100% armor, and 8% hull after barely surviving a glitch carrier incident in a C5 for escalations.
My main question is whether or not any of you have had reimbursements for such a thing and if the low hull issue is well known in the eve community, because I can't even find posts from google about it. |

IIRC if you eject from a ship with less than 25% hull it will ka-splode due to not being held together by your skills. One does not simply buy their way into Goonswarm. |

Yes, we were made aware of this ~5 seconds after the explosion of my nightmare by the afk guy in our ts. as stated in the post :) |

Ah, seems I glazed over that part. Last I checked, no, it isn't reimbursable as it is "legit" for the time being.
Edit: I remember seeing a post on the forums (General D I think) not too long ago promoting ejecting in hull, especially in supers, to avoid lossmails. One does not simply buy their way into Goonswarm. |

Yes, There would still be the case of the fact that it's hull was only so low because the carrier pilot could not use his reps for a limited time, the ship would have been lost if not for my desperate response. |

There is also the case that knowing this can happen you had the option of not finishing the escalation, and throw a hull rep on the ship first to rep it up before ejecting. I doubt the rep malfunction would help your case. |

so, my saving the ship long enough to get reps on it by our shield reps would negate any possible reimbursement due to lack of foresight in some ******** mechanic that 7 people didn't think about? yup, seems like ccp to me. |

sounds like it did exactly what it was supposed to *shrug* not sure why you would expect to be reimbursed for a standard feature.
PS: this is a common method of avoiding loss mails in supers since it generates no KM. |

Fairly certain there is a warning before you eject from a ship about this. I wouldn't suggest turning warnings off if you can't remember about them. |

Thanks for the replies. That'll teach me to turn off message warnings about ejecting. Also, I should've recorded this... I had thought about recording the site itself for corp forum use beforehand, would've been funny to catch the clutch save with my archon :( |

A bit off topic: what wuld happen if one docks with a ship < 25 % hull (assumung mechanics V). I guess there would be no ship explosion within a station.
(This is a common question, I am aware that the OP talked about a wormhole) |

(This is a common question, I am aware that the OP talked about a wormhole) You'd still be in the ship though in station.
Iirc it won't explode, but you won't be able to undock either. |

You shoudl have just boarded the dread without ejecting from your nightmare. Your SMA would not splode your nightmare and would even repair your hull up to 25 percent. (At least thats how it used to work. Its been a long time since I have been in structure and lived.) |

Working as intended. You even get a confirmation window on trying to eject telling you it will blow up if it has too little structure. The Troll is trolling. |

If you read. My most recent comment states why there was no message warning me about my ship falling apart because my pod is the lynch pin to keeping a ship from collapsing unto itself.
I have been playing the game for 2+ years and this has never happened to me. It's like chicken pox, the later into life you get without contracting it, the worse it is when it happens. I would rather have learned this mechanic with frigates/cruisers than to blow up a 1.3 bil ship. |

Sucks when stuff like that happens and only way to prove the original issues are if you had a video recording. The deal with hull damage resulting in the ship exploding is pretty daft to tho I understand the mechanics of why its still not a great idea to have a "feature" like that in the game. |

On a related note: this happened to one of my characters once: After a fight I was back in the friendly POS sitting at 15%ish structure. We were in the process of pulling up stakes in that system so we had no hull reppers available. I was unsure what would happen if I placed the burning ship into an SMA to get another ship. Eventually figured better safe than sorry and went out to a hisec station to rep before coming back to put the ship away.
Curious if anyone knows the answer? If you attempt to store a ship with less than 25% structure does it explode as you get out? |
