I quit playing eve a few weeks ago but i recently noticed a charge of $75 to my PayPal account for 6 months game-time. I did not authorize this payment, select a recurring payment and was informed that PayPal payments were non recurring. http://support.eveonline.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=497 says that PayPal payments are non recurring and the payment screen also said this irc. What should i do about this and will i be able to get a refund? |

Can't you just backcharge it and let CCP's beancounters worry about dealing with the mess?

Heavily agree here. I have unchecked the recurring payments box several times and it keeps auto deducting for my accounts. Last month cost me 80 bucks in overdraft fees.
It is unacceptable for payments to default to auto deduct in the first place Then to have them magically return to auto recurring is criminal. Sign of the times i guess .
Honestly this is 50% paypals fault they could easily setup their system to require you to authorize all your payments before they are sent. Their inability to add that feature has enabled unscrupulous merchants to take advantage. I am sad however that CCP has become one of those companies that I need to keep an eye on
What the hell has happened to the company I used to admire for their dedication to their players. In the last year I have watched them become just another company of profit *****s out to skim as much as possible off of their loyal players.

I actually got charged for this month from a combination of my own stupidity and greasy interface design.
After cancelling my subscription, you get a blank page with a big black button on it. Instinctively, I clicked it, and it took me back to the main account page. I assumed that was the purpose of the button. The actual purpose of that button is to undo your cancellation. Because that's a mistake I always make, you know. I often go into an account interface, accidentally open up the management menu, accidentally click the cancel subscription menu item, accidentally fill out the cancellation form and accidentally confirm my cancellation. Accidentally.

Unfortunately between CCP and paypal and visa there is only one method to insure you don't get recurring charges from CCP after canceling. This method is to phone your bank and tell them you lost your debit/credit card and have them reissue you one. It will have a different number that any of the accounts that try to auto-deduct have and they won't be able to access your funds. Forget honorable, we live in a world where people try to screw you out of cash while you bury a loved one or scam fixed income retirees. It's a sick friggin place and it's on you - don't expect your creditors to help you.

Make petition under Account/Billing category. I've read that CCP will give money back if you didn't intend to pay.

Unlike a CC, Paypal handles the recurring, not CCP.

you know in some countries saying dumb ****ing **** like this constitutes libel/slander and you would be accountable for damages.
OP: PayPal sucks bawls. Paypal's problem, not CCP's.

Most likely you have been paying the last months with PLEX but still had a subscription running vias PayPal. I basically had the same before Incarna: credit card subscription but renewed the game with PLEX over and over. The idea was that if for some reason I forget to PLEX up the account does not run out and stop training because the credit card sub would kick back in. I've cancelled that after NEx though.
Most likely your PLEXing stopped and thus CCP fell back to the PayPal sub. Whether you have a chance of redeeming the money is questionable, but if you don't log in and ask PayPal to return the cash it might work. But in theory (if it happened as I suspect) you still have a valid contract with CCP.
Of course it's a coincidence that cancellation is not as easy as signing up.

Yes paypal has a lousy recurring payment system, unscrupulous companies could take advantage of it.

Edited by: Othran on 29/08/2011 11:06:21 From what I can see, the only way to prevent this happening with the new account management page is to cancel your subscription immediately after making a payment with anything other than PLEX. Your sub will expire when it runs out of time, not at the time you hit "cancel". Edit - to clarify, if you've always paid by PLEX you don't have a problem. If you've ever paid in another way it appears to default to that when the time runs out.
That seems completely asinine to me but it is :ccp: we're dealing with here so who knows what they were thinking.
I can confirm it works. Nothing else appears to.
The old account management worked on the basis of the last payment method - eg if you used a CC for months 1-3 and PLEX for months 3-6 then it wouldn't revert to the CC. It does now which is rather naughty - opting people INTO a recurring payment system on a CC (its called a continuous credit authority) in the UK requires a bit more in terms of info/consent than :ccp: are providing. Other countries may differ but they're on thin ice in the UK - I'd expect chargebacks to be granted pretty much instantly.
