Yeah, have to agree the energy system is the worst aspect of the game, along with the stupid energy bars that just happen to be in every nook and cranny. Kind of ruins the protagonists mystique to have him chowing down on chocolate bars in the shadows, or while creeping up on people. I find alcohol pretty useless, too, for the amount of it that's in the game. There has to be at least a dozen types of alcohol, and i always end up getting drunk in an empty hallway or something just to clear out inventory space, then waiting until i can see straight again. I think it's supposed to give damage resistance or something, but painkillers are a more no-nonsense way to do the same.

I used up all the alcohol right away as I found it, because you can stack up 200hp and it doesn't fade away. But yeah they could have used more imagination for alcohol useage :)
And I don't realy care about the energy system since I only used it for take downs and with 2/2 energy recharge I usualy had energy every time I wanted to take down or punch trough the wall. Other than that I usualy used ranged weapons, lethal against FEMA/Belltower and nonlethal agains everything else, though I use always nonlethal take down agains every1.

they could solve the imagined 'overpowered' nature of all batteries recharging by having double-takedowns cost two batteries. *shrugs* but yeah, stealth+takedown isn't even close to as easy and powerful as a silenced shot to the head.
also found this in an email: FROM: OMEGA_ADMIN TO: OMEGA_ALL
"Due to the high toxicity of materials routinely handled in the compound, no smoking, eating or drinking is permitted outside of designated safety zones. Remember, failure to comply with Omega Ranch policy and regulations can and will result in immediate termination"
Followed by another email from and to the same as above:
"A reminder that the Omega Ranch Interdepartmental Mensa Competition will commence this evening at 1900 hours. The semi-finals for high security personnel will be announced in a separate secure access transmission. Remember, more lives than your own may depend on your mental fitness."
Awesome!

and another one:
FROM OMEGA_ADMIN TO OMEGA_ALL
"a reminder to all omega ranch personnel: regular radiation and bio-hazard screenings are a requirement of continued employment in the omega ranch research facility. Missing scheduled urinalysis or radiation check-up is grounds for immediate termination. If you feel you have been exposed to radioactive or other hazardous materials in the course of your duties, contact your radiation safety officer immediately. Work safe, work smart, your future may depend on it."

guess I should've been more clear, if you're going around gunning everyone down, then yes, the cloak take downs + complete recharge won't really matter much, as there would be little reason to use them in the first place. It's when one's going for a stealth run that such a combination would be overpowered.

The same way you'd do it with 5 cells or just 2 cells - keep eating energy bars. They're instant consumption, no cooldown time, no nothing. Just have them mapped to a hotkey and use it at any time you've completely depleted a battery. _

Oh, and how could I forget to mention it. Lack of windowed mode option. And it's not like the engine won't support it or anything - it's just DISABLED. There's even a registry setting for it, but it keeps changing back from "false" (windowed) to "true" (fullscreen) if you edit it. Yes, I play almost all my games in windowed mode (all of them that support it, that is). You could probably force DXHR into windowed mode somehow, but it's highly annoying that it's not an ingame option. _

I just finished the game and I'll take back my "only one major gripe" post. The ending suuuuuuuucccks so badly compared to deus ex. Without going into spoilers the last part is a short atmospheric tunnel run, disrupted by a boring boss "fight"(bad boss fight that is more cutscene than you playing) and ends in a room where you literally select the ending you want by getting another long ass cutscene and then pressing the corresponding button. Propably the worst and laziest way to implement a multiple choice ending, that I've ever seen. Absolutely horrible.
Even the familiar philosophical parts in the end where each side gets to defend their point of view was mostly very unconvincing. I guess they wanted to write natural dialogue or couldn't be arsed to construct well thought out arguments, but it comes off about as convincing as Tom Gerards forum posting. It's still a great game, but the end didn't leave a good taste in my mouth and for a deus ex game it's not actually that deus exy outside the game mechanics. Meaning the conspiracy and philosophical portions of the game are underdeveloped compared to the first game.

and suddenly I no longer wish for another Legacy of Kain game... odd that.
as for the ending. yeah, it sucked. I don't think I spotted any real differences between the actual videos of the different endings... only the voice-overs. they could've at least shown the destruction of the installation (if you chose that option).

Good Lord the final boss fight was anti-climactic!
SPOILER WARNING:
Three turrets?!?! That's it?!?! I sniped those things through the walls with a laser thinking that it was just the prelude to the boss battle.
For Christ Sake , this is SQUARE ****IGN ENIX the company that popularized the term ONE WINGED ANGEL!
I was seriously expecting to have to fight VOLTRON! If not at the actual core then on the lift down! You know that lift that shows off the really epic huge hole in the ocean! What the hell is the point of the architecture if you are not going to use it!?!
Seriously, the war bots they sent against you were more impressive than that. I was expecting to have to kill 4 of those things while battling some form of emp shielded menace.
This.... just sucked. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

I actually held this sentiment for a while - that PCs are the only platform for shooters - until I started playing shooters on my 360. It's actually quite easy. I think I had headshots throughout most of the game (since I constantly made the experience bonus for high accuracy).
Although, I've played through once so far. Was sort of shooty, more sneaky. About to start a "Give me Deus Ex" playthrough, full sneaky-sneak mode.
Really great game and in comparison to Mass Effect, I think it would be unfair to say one game is better than the other. For me, Mass Effect had more of an emotional pull. I mean, who didn't get a little watery-eyed when they had to decide which member of their squad was going to die? Or when you fired up ME2 for the 1st time and Joker's introducing you to the new Normandy.
Deus Ex 3, great on action, great on story. There is one sequence that can be a little emotional, but can also be avoided. Won't say which or what, though. Fly safe, Die hard |

For this reason, you're generally much better off upgrading your inventory than your energy capacity. Maybe 1 extra cell might be worthwhile, so you can take full advantage of the food jars that give you 3 bars at once.
I'm not sure whether you can use hotkeys while in the middle of a hacking attempt, so that might be another minor benefit in one or two places- If you're fast enough, it is possible to hack even a (heavily) guarded door while cloaked. Cheesy in the extreme, I appreciate, but sometimes worthwhile. --- 34.4:1 mineral compression |

Overall I loved it. I have to agree with the main sentiment here, that the battery recharge system sucked chubby. I wondered if playing it on the hardest setting, was the reason for this. But going by the comments in this thread, it seems not.
Also the boss in the room full of manikins was way too easy. I had a grenade launcher and just pumped a few at him and that was it. I didn't even move.
The ending did suck and I thought it too was way too easy. With the build up and previous comments in game, I was expecting to be at it for some time. Then came the choices, which were really quite boring and a cheap way to end it I thought.
All in all though, I would give it 9/10.

I just earned 'Foxiest of the hounds' and 'pacifist' yesterday. feels really good to once again be able to snipe someone in the head and just walk away.
some things that I learned: 1) If you leave someone sleeping and you later come back to find them dead, it doesn't count as you killing them. (I left two people sleeping in an elevator only to find them dead later on). 2) People being 'Alarmed' doesn't count as setting off an alarm. (it will however stop you from getting the 'Ghost(500)' bonus). 3) **Spoiler** in a certain part of the game you get the option to save someone and it's *very* hard to do as a pacifist. thankfully, if you leave them to their dire fate, you can still get the achievement, as a bonus you'll feel like an ***** for the rest of the game though. 4) I didn't do the kevorkian bit this playthrough. in fact, it's probably best to do as few sidequests as possible. 5) the 28-days-later-zombies in the end wont set off any alarms so it doesn't matter if they see you or not. take a P.E.P.S with you, it's cone-like attack can take out all of them in once sweep.
