Current specs: motherboard = Intel BoxDH67GDB3 processor = i3 2100T ram = 4GB DDR3 hdd = ocz vertex 2 Antex 300W PSU Monitor is 1680x1050 but I'm just as likely to run in window so that may not be critical.
I can run the game, but the i3's video can not run incarna well. As such I'm looking to get a video card. The mobo has a pci-e 2.0 slot as well as pci slots, I'm kind of hoping I can avoid a psu upgrade here.
Suggestions?

At the moment I'm thinking maybe a gt 430 which should fit within the current psu, not sure about Incarna performance on that though.

300W? Sheesh. I know you're trying to avoid upgrading your PSU, but that's really going to limit your options here. |

I run a sparkle gt430 512m with less processor and ram than you, and I am pretty sure it would run well on a 300 watt PSU. Its is a very low power device.
With 1 client I can run decent graphics settings at 1366X768 and get great FPS in space and about 30FPS in CQ.
I can run 3 clients at a time if i set the second 2 clients to 'low' and keep CQ off.
If you find a gt430 with 1 gig it should run 1 client quite well. |

I'm surprised that the damn thing even boots at all with a 300W PSU... =========================

Welcome to Incarna, a new video card probably wont help that.

a video card will vastly improve your performance, The internal GPU within a 2100T is fairly weak, it can do computation to support most modern video cards so you have a multitude of choices. So now the question becomes which one do you buy. Well I agree with the previous post, a 430 would be fitting in your power range. There is also the 6670 which isnt a half bad card. -------------

Edited by: Kallista Naari on 13/08/2011 21:17:48 I bought a Geforce GT 240 for pretty cheap and it runs eve just fine. I also have a Geforce 9800GT in my other machine, and it runs fine also.
The good thing about the gt240 is that it doesn't need a lot of power to run, in fact I think 300watt would be fine for it.

4GB of RAM is unlikely to be a bottleneck even for two EVE clients with Incarna loaded, let alone a single client.
His CPU has a TDP of barely 35W, and the SDD only uses a token amount of electricity too, so I would be not particularly surprised if his entire machine only uses about half of those close to 300W the PSU is supposed to be able to push out. He could probably get away with sticking a Radeon HD 6670 (allegedly uses only 66W, costs about 80$ and should be able to deliver a passable performance even with Incarna) inside that machine without upgrading the PSU, maybe even something better than that.
It would be nice if he could actually measure the power draw when the PC is at full usage, so we know how much "slack" he can rely on. Usually, for an alleged "300W PSU" of questionable quality and unknown efficiency, you want to use at most 250W total peak power, preferably only around 200W or thereabouts (but he still might fit that power budget even with the 6670 inside).
The two CPU cores at 2.5GHz each should be quite sufficient even with a more powerful graphics card before becoming a bottleneck.

His PSU would not be able to handle that card well. Not on top of everything else that is already running.

Try hardware temperature monitoring programs like everest, speedfan, nvidia control panel temp monitor, ASUS probe, or google one. Either way, clean, monitor, and be cautious about your hardware next time.

Edited by: Valei Khurelem on 14/08/2011 03:58:55 To be honest a 300w PSU is measly for a gaming computer, realistically you want 500w+, I'm afraid you've gone and made a pretty underpowered PC, not only that the components you get will be pretty much like the PSU really.
The components you got right there look like the CPU and the RAM, but you'll need to upgrade the other stuff.

Edited by: Baraka Saibot on 14/08/2011 05:14:34 With that hardware, and a low end newish gfx card... and a couple fans and nothing else really. 300 W shouldn't be a problem is actually delivers what it says on the tin.
500-750 Watt is for i7 with high end gfx cards and several SATA drives and other stuff.
But, just look at the several different PSU calculators out there.

tbh for your specs and said 300w PSU, I think a 6770 or a 6750 would be enough.
Granted they aren't stellar cards, but they are good mid-range cards that eat next to no power, compared to their performance. |

Yes im sure EvE exploded your 4-5 year old video card
On topic; OP most people think you need a microwave power supply to run a computer and you do NOT, but just the same make sure you have the right plugs for the card you buy.
