Yeah, I just had the biggest guffaw. I'm setting up a curious stepchild with the 14-day trial. We're using step dad's boss hog pro gaming machine...cause it's FASTER!
We get to the character design screen and step dad isn't quite as WAHOO!! as he was a minute before. Now, the stepchild chose Gallente female (spell check alerts on their own website, quaint.) Ladies, I have to say the clothing choices are horrendous. It's like a woman dressing like a man if he dressed like a woman...so to speak. (Although you can see the adherence to Roddenberry's Star Trek "fashion"...very telling). But, that's the subject for another post.
Sure as the world, after trying to somehow get the lady's face to hold still long enough to do some tweaking, and giving up entirely because the wait was so long for a questionable result...try and try again, we move on to the clothes. Get the shiny, low cut pants drawn on (horrendous). They didn't look that bad in the tiny picture. So, we try for something more subdued. The 'puter freezes up.
NO Alt+Tab to get to Task Manager. No auto shutoff with the power button. I had to turn off the power at the surge protector. Too funny.
Now, I'm not showing my specs cause that's a pain in the butt, and like I said, daddy's machine sucks the carpet off the floor when it uploads, and spits it back out when it downloads. Suffice to say, it far surpasses CCP's stated requirements to operate the game...by a long shot.
The funny part. I'm sitting on seven grand and my birthday is coming up. I can put together a machine that will run the entire nuclear arsenal of a gender insecure nation. If I DO...what guarantee do I have it will run EVE???
If I have to go into that character creator thingy one more time, I'm taking this 4-10 over and under and making my Luddite Joe statement in spades.

and me with a phd in social anthropology, masters in English...back to school. I'll put it in my grandson's college fund. How's that sound?
The point is, yes, I'll be custom making a top of the line, eat my dust, gaming machine in two months. Aren't the stated specs by CCP supposed to run this thing? Or, is that point too subtle?

I find it odd that you're questioning the ability of a "state of the art" computer to run a game that thousands; if not hundreds of thousands of people have no problem running on their run of the mill computers.
Which leads me to believe this is nothing more than an E-Peen thread; except you've currently been out-epeened atleast 100x by a thread that's even right now floating on the general discussion forum.
I'll let you guess which thread I'm talking about.

As long as you can afford this guy's simple setup, you should be fine.

Edited by: Mr Kidd on 23/07/2011 19:35:26 The lockup was most likely a coincidence. Try again and see what happens. If it's reproducible then you have an issue with Eve. I'd definitely look at how hot the system was getting while in character creator and see if that might be a possible culprit.
As for the clothing selection: working as intended and that's why there's the NeX with its on superiorly horrible selections.
I was having random and infrequent hard lockup issues a while back. The system just froze, everything still on the screen, no responses to input, sounds stopped, no nothing. Seemed to happen mostly when Eve was running. I went into the BIOS and disabled CPU voltage regulation, called Q-quiet or something. Anyway, it is supposed to adjust voltage to keep the CPU cool. Haven't had a problem since I disabled it.
