To be honest, I thought the FW event in Abune last night was a bit rubbish, especially in terms of "generating more RP story" since all it involved was two opposite faction carriers sitting at a planet and writing pre-scripted guff in local and FW channels, and waiting to get blown up.
There was absolute minimal "interaction" with the players so it felt like only one CCP guy was playing both sides while reading a copy of Timeout magazine, checking back on things between sips of coffee only to follow the lame sheet of A4 script.
But I suppose it did at least get a few more targets in system for an hour or so doing something different than running missions in a stealth bomber.
The event demonstrated how disorganised and un-enthused FW generally is right now more than anything else - when after an hour only 20 or so FW players who were mostly newbies showed up out of curiosity then got mopped up or dispersed when a relatively small organised gang of pirates came to clean up. If you at CCP class this as event success then welp \o/ ; You should really scale up your imaginations though and your thought/effort that goes into the Live events if you want to generate significant player interest.
Although it is a shame the pirates felt the need to rush over to shut down the event so quickly, I understand the motivation. The exact same thing happened with old Live events, often with PL or some overwhelmingy organised blob rushing a cyno over to syetem to drop a relatively untouchable blob to grab any "phat loot". Sad there is nothing else to keep such folks busy. And while the pirates are crying about pointed carriers cloaking or warping off they need man-up and remember the mechanics of belt rats who do it too. Event ships are effectively obeying the same rules as NPCs. You blew your wad for 1 NPC carrier kill pretty much - if you'd waited longer until larger FW formed (though that's a gamble these days I guess) you might have had more fun.
In future a better incentive for FW Live events at least, might be for CCP to offer Faction LP or Victory Points (if they were actually useful) as a reward to FW players showing up and taking part. Even doing the Event in a frigate only PLEX or some such environment might make it more fun. It is a sad reflection of FW that even the once popular Caldari FC, Gavin Goodridge couldn't even muster a Caldari fleet, despite being on the scene from the start. Maybe he did "dial up" pirates only they know that, but we all know the overriding truth is that low-sec boredom and coveting a phat loot drop drove the pirates there for the hope of some actual action. FW was originally a novel and fun shake up to low sec, but these days its been so ignored by CCP despite many terrible mechanics and bugs, its abuse by players (for LP farming/easy spy alts) and generally left to fester that even FW Live events won't drum up much interest. Sad times indeed, and if the events team feed anything back to CCP management, it should be that FW and low-sec in particular need much more love if you're ever to see 200+ man FW fleets again fighting eachother making proper "content".

More live events = Very good
Dynamic events = Even better
Whiny guys on the forums = CCP is doing something right
Live events have always made the universe more alive, they peaked my atm flagging interest and I'll be sure to check them out when I can.

Stfu if you can't say anything good about Faction Warfare. It's so easy to diss and destroy a feature but it actually seems hard to say something good about it. Sure theres lots of problem with FW and lots of people know about that (especially the players in FW and CCP dudes as well).
And what Caldari Dux said is sooo true. I do give him credits but if these events help my gameplay and makes me happy then so be it. To CCP, just continue those live events but don't forget to work on your bugs, revamp features and making new one as well (give more time to fix bugs please lol). --------------------------------------------------

+1 for Live Events.
They don't have to be grand or anything, just add a little color.
One of the simplest, most awesome Live Events I've ever seen was a single Rogue Drone Hive Mother sitting in a Rookie Complex in a Rookie System challenging Local to come get her.
Of course, the Acceleration Gate to these Complexes only admits Rookie Frigs... And the Hive mother was in a Dominix with Scout Drones...
If you think the fun in this is the loot in the wreck, or the :awesome: PVP then you're wrong. The fun in it is 40 Rookie Frigs with everything from Civilian to T2 modules finally deciding it's safe to storm the fortress.

Oh wait, I can't because it's not for all timezones, only EU (and some early US players).
Way to go CCP, doesn't you game run 23/7?
If you paid a tiny bit of attention during this vid you would know that CCP Dropbear and Headfirst working hours are according to EST.
But I guess it's more fun to be another fool on the forums.
Nice to know, so if they cover EST now, do they then do an extra 8 hrs for NZ/AU? Didn't think so.

If you want to get involved, you have to make the effort to understand the evolving storyline. The whole point of live events is that there is a puzzle, a challenge, the answer it's not being handed over on a plate, it requires effort and just like everything else in Eve there is a steep but rewarding learning curve.
In the Sansha storyline, it revolves around trying to work out what he is up to, what is his plan, his strategy.
Watch the IGS and Eve Fiction forum, pay particular attention the posts bound by coloured bars of event actors, like this and this. Watch local for teal/purple text of the event actors. Join one (some) of the many channels dedicated to the story line. Watch the recent changes of Evelopedia Join the RP channels. Join a corp with RP members that watch these channels.
The clues are out there, you just have to learn how to spot them.

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. I appreciate that you supplied some advice in your post, but that ambiguous comment really sums up in a nutshell the attitude of a large portion of the current RP crowd. How can I make an effort to understand evolving storyline if I have the door slammed in my face with nothing more than "find the clues" whispered to me? And I'm willing to bet I'm not the only person who feels like this. Yes, I'm an alt. Deal with it. |

Thats great fallout. But can I ask that somehow you can manage to do some of these live events during AU prime time?
I have never been online at the same time as one of these live events, and they are something that I would like to be part of. I'm sure all of my corp mates would appreciate it as well.

I can't *give* you the answer, they change, that is part of the challenge. I can give you an example.
I spotted this News Story, there are two easy clues in that story. The System name 'Eram' and the Scientist name 'Hilen Tukoss'. I checked the Evelopedia; Eram is basically unremarkable. I already knew the Hilen was an important character but anybody that checked the Evelopedia would also know that Hilen is an important character from past storyline threads.
I travelled to Eram and Hilen was chatting in local, I found out about the Arek'Jaalan project and channel. That appears in other posts, threads, news stories and other channels. That is how my involvement in this story line began and it is still very much a work in progress.
As as said originally it takes work, if you expect to be spoon fed the answers then live events are not for you, the challenge, the puzzle, the difficult is huge part of the point and reward. If you find that arrogant then

This is all part of the master plan:
(1) Eff up the game bad: - Unbalance Supers so 0.0 sandbox is broken - Nerf anoms and boost officers so there's no ISK in 0.0 for individuals - Leave lowsec broken, it's been that way a long time, - Never make FW worth squat, it was broken at its launch (2) **** off all the older players that were behind player generated content (3) Now everyone is bored with just L4s and the carpalfest of PI to do (4) Create "Live Events" and Incursions because there's nothing to do any longer, as a "remedy" (5) Welcome to eve, every day will be like the last and nothing will change.
No need to go through with your plan to license 3rd party sites about Eve, like Eve Tribune they're all gonna wither and die due to disinterest.

We applaud the return of these events, but could you please stop nuking the wreck fields? The "game play" that occurred after the carrier exploded often went on for over an hour or so at the events in late 2010. _____________________________________ Join our public channel "Ninja Dojo" Recruiting is now: INVITE ONLY Visit our Forum |
