My drones seem to have minds of their own. They do all sorts of crazy things when I'm not around to lay down the law: Splitting of and attacking separate targets even though focus fire is selected and flying towards my target to attack it, then suddenly deciding to attack a different target.
Oh yeah, and of course there's always the fact that they frequently grab aggro when I don't want them to, but that's always been a problem with drones. |

Yep, one of many things made worse over the last half dozen patches.
Granted drones were already pretty dumb, but they blatantly ignore orders now unless you spam the command. |

There's a certain balance between an AI trying to guess what you want and doing that, and it just sitting there waiting for you to tell it exactly what to do. On one hand it might do something you don't want, but otherwise you will find it not doing anything when you DO want it to. |

It should be relatively easy to give a higher priority to actual player commands that don't require guessing.
I tell my drones to attack target A - they start to - then they change to another target that catches their attention. This shouldn't happen.
I'm pretty sure drones have been in the game long before CQ, Nex, PI, FW, T3 and a dozen other shiny features with keen acronyms. But they still don't get the attention they deserve because they already kinda work.
'course none of those features work fully as originally planned yet either.

I've had my drones just up and book it. Never got them back, too embarrassed to petition.
Hope they didn't report me to Concord drone protective services |

New player here...
I've been training my drones skills up, and have been flying an Omen for most of my Eve career. Been thinking about giving drones a try since I was reading Domi missioning is easy mode. Anyways, got all my drone skills up so I can use Hob2's and warrior2's and such. So I buy an Abitrator and I'm a little disappointed finding this out the hard way. Drones are a pain in the butt to control.
theyr'e constantly attacking different targets, I have to repeatedly tell them to attack the same target until it's dead, otherwise, sometimes they split up. I have yet to see them completely leave a target before it's dead, but one or two of them have left the target before it was dead. I'm almost kicking myself for not just buying an Harbringer for level 2 missions instead of wasting all the training time and money getting my Arby up to par.
But you live and learn I guess. I hope CCP gets this fixed, or does something about it. |

Drones are like goldfish, they have a memory span of like 10 seconds and then forget what they're meant to be doing and go and do something else. |

When you don't look after your drones, they tend to drift off and do their own thing - stop listening to commands or even just run away. That's why you need to learn the 'feed drone' skill. Make sure you have a good stash of chicken drumsticks in your cargo hold before you next engage in combat though.

Fixed that for you, and there was many lulz to be had
EDIT:
Also just uncheck agression on your drone options and they will only attack what you tell them to. its annoying because sometimes I want them to pick their own targets, but it is an option. |

It's part of the upcoming changes in the Sleepers/Wormhole plotline. All drones will eventually turn against their masters and the Drone Regions will rise up, unite and form their own nation to crush the infidel meatbags. |

Drones should have a customisable priority list. Like we get 5 tabs for the overview, why not 5 priorities we can assign to either all drones, or to the different groups of drones we create?
That way we can make light drones favour drones, then frigates, then cruisers, then idle. We should be able to use the same profiles to assign auto-attack range, like only stuff within 30km etc. These commands would be commands from the client to the server, rather than using AI. Would lighten the load for CCP's servers too. Just imagine the clients doing all the calc. It'd be just the same as the client sending commands that you sent.
Makes sense to me. |
