I'm trying to decide whether I should reprocess my mission loot before or after hauling them to a trade hub. Which takes up less cargo space in a hauler - the intact mods, or the minerals from reprocessing them?

Generally, mods take up less space. However, some mods take up more space than their minerals. Survey scanners for instance.

If you want to know how much space your loot needs, just throw it in the cargo bay of your hauler. You will see the needed space. Or if your hauler isn't at hand, make a transport contract for the whole loot. The contract window shows the size of the package. (At the moment I'm not sure if you can mark your loot in the inventory and then see the needed space (like in Windows with files). If so, this would be another option.)
After that mark all loot and select refining (I'm using the german client so I don't know the exact name). The refinery window shows you the amount of resulting minerals. Just multiply it by 0.01, and you get the needed space for the minerals. :)

Cap booster charges are bigtime space hogs.

You could also just buy a station container for 20k isk... holds up to 1m m3; should give you an idea of what you have; also offers a nice way to seperate your mission fittings/ammo from loot.
1: Get a big sample (10k m3+) 2: Get a repro quote 3: Calc repro volume
I doubt there's a huge difference; I know cap booster charges are heavy, but they also seem to repro into a lot of minerals, so not sure of the volume conversion there.
Haven't actually checked this myself; can't do tax free repro at any of the major hub stations.
Usually best to repro where you can get the best rate, and haul when you have a fitted indie stuffed with gscs full, except maybe sell trit/pyerite locally. That's what I do anyway. |
