I'm currently training my main as a combat pilot, and I'm very interested in getting into capitals. I've talked to many players about what they do (I'm looking to fly either an Archon or Thanatos).
Here is my question: is it more common/would it be better to train up an alt specifically for Logi (and then into an Archon)? The actual Archon train takes about 4 months, so what I'm wondering is if it'd make more sense to just let my main skill and train into this, considering he'll have all the support skills trained. It seems like a waste of training a second account, since many of the support skills would be the same.
Really, for the Eve veterans, I'm just wanting to know how it's usually done: would I be better served by taking my main, combat related focused account into dreads, then use a special account for logi and carriers?
I know the "Eve answer" is depends, and I know it does, but you guys can let me know what's more common or what has been seen the most.
Thanks for ANY information you guys can give me. I have a pretty good layout of my skillplan for the next year or so, and at that point I have archons tenatively scheduled. If it makes more sense to have a "capital-only pilot," then that's something I could begin training for now. Thanks again, everyone! |

If you plan on moving on to supercapitals with your pilot in training, then it makes sense to stick to training only capitals. Training for an Archon takes much longer than four months. please leave |

I meant the time to sit in the hull. I know it's not 4 months to fly an archon and win.

I can fly capitals and they're more a pain in the ass than anything. Took me a couple weeks to just get the fittings because they're all so big "A genius throws a Molotov cocktail and soon realizes that he's going to die choking in a maze of smoke and flame. A hero drinks a Molotov cocktail and soon realizes that if he does a split in midair, he can hit twice as many zombies per kick. Drunk hero wins again, wusses." ~Cracked.com |

As said, it depends on where you plan to go with it. If your plan is to fly carriers, then train it on your main since it should already have support skills. But if you plan to use a carrier only as a stepping stone to a SC, then it may make more sense to train an alt. That said, you could train your main to actually use it and then train an alt to simply sit in it and park it when you want your main doing other stuff. I think that is actually the more common route. The Troll is trolling. |

I'd say hold off on focusing on capitals until you've trained all the subcaps of the race you want to fly, it takes a long time to get into a capital and be able to use it, if you blitz right for it, you'll be bored for a long while while your skills train. |

1. Train to sit in carrier. 2. Train Jump Drive Calibration 4 (5 strongly recommended). 3. Move your stuff around instead of relying on others. Never use carrier in combat (for now). 4. Train Logistics. 5. Train capital logistics.
Archon > Thanatos, though you can't rep a large control tower with an Archon (some consider this a bonus).
I'm a Chimera pilot. I have an alt that is a Chimera and Thanatos pilot, and another alt that is an Archon pilot. |

meh.... i would have a main for capitals... i just wouldn't use them as much... if you are going super cap do it on an alt, or at least have an alt to do nothing but sit in it else you can lose it ( you cannot dock super caps. |

not true... leave your char in space... allow the game time to run out...
then when you resub you will be in a station with your super cap... Ok, so you've corrected my spelling,do you care to make a valid point? -áThere are no stupid Questions... just stupid people... |

Thanks everyone for your responses! I just had a follow up question about supercaps: are Aeons and Nyxes, for example, just "better, stronger, tougher" versions of their Carrier bretheren, or do they have different roles altogether? And sort of a follow-up to that, Titans vs Dreads: same but bigger? (I'm not terribly familiar with dreads or especially titans over just hearing the "dreads are good for POS-bashing."

If you don't plan on going for supercaps, then it makes sense to use your main. Support skills are there, BS5 is there etc. Unless of course you fancy an alt, in which case train it for caps/logi/falcon and go pwn the universe.

Actually I like the niddy, rep amount bonus combined with both armor and shield reps is pretty handy. If we're talking triage, then I'm inclined to say the niddy is the superior ship since a triage carrier's survival is based almost entirely on the survival of the subcap fleet with it. And a niddy is far better at keeping that alive than the archon is. The Troll is trolling. |
