Edited by: Lirossa on 30/06/2011 22:10:14 One note on the new forum:
when I click a link thats posted in a thread (url tag) it always redirects me to the same forum thread again without opening the url.
After some research I found that you seam to be using some kind of google-api which is remote included. My privacy settings do not allow any javascripts to be loaded from google servers and therfor causing your JS calls to fail.
This is the remote-liked library that fails loading: https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.9/jquery-ui.min.js

Good decision and communication I unfortunately have to make note that such thinking was severely lacking of late. I also hope the feedback being given is taken to heart and efforts made to implement fixes/changes as happened after the 'new forums' shut down. Their arrival saw virtually no feedback or changes made from the first round of testing and only after returning from the exploit debacle were they addressed.

Import all the old forum content on the new one.
Don't want to hear your excuses, your webteam should be very, very grateful you didn't fire every single one of them for their mind blowing incompetence ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

First good PR move in a while; i.e. not closing the current forums until August. Now if CCP and Eve could only also do good work on their SUBSTANCE and not just their IMAGE....
Nice to know there are still a very few of the employees at CCP that are at least ATTEMPTING to earn the salaries we pay them.
Good on you Fallout.
Cheers.

Yep it's like CQ. You gain walking you lose drag and drop, double click, immersion and what not.

Is it not possible, and if so easier, to import this forum's database to the new forums?

1. Font sizes on the new forum still too small. Especially the last poster listed on the forum index. 2. Forum width too narrow. needs to be expandable according to monitor resolution like this forum.\ All javascript code needs to be moved to the bottom of the code. I want to look at the forum, not wait to load. In fact I'm just going to disable javascript on evegate. 3. Too much padding. 4. Evegate still doesn't have a menu like the one on the left side here where players can access blogs, patch notes, etc etc.

Originally by: CCP Fallout Hello all, For the last couple of weeks, we have been conducting the second round of beta tests for our new forums <https://testforums.evegate.com/>. The feedback we have received has been tremendously helpful, and we are grateful to those of you who have taken the opportunity to help us with the beta test. We have decided to extend the test until July 8, 2011, at which time we will close the beta test forums. Originally, we had planned to close the test forums much sooner, and wanted to deploy the new forums over the final week of June, however, we feel that doing so at this time would be detrimental to the ongoing discussions regarding both CCP and the current state of EVE Online. WeÆve been listening to and following your concerns and criticisms closely, and do not want to risk disrupting the flow of discussion by opening new forums. We plan on deploying the new forums in August. Until then...
Fly safely! Team OccamÆs Razor and the EVE Online Community Team
See CCP you can make some good decisions. Forcing us to move to the new forums at a time we didn't want to you'd have been bad for use as well. So maybe you could gives us back the ship spinning now?

For many in-game features, there is something to be said for the argument that forum posters are a minority of EVE pilots, and their feedback or rage should not guide game development. The same argument does not apply to changes to the forum itself since, of course, forum posters are the user base for this aspect of the game.
Forum posters saying "the new forums are not good enough" or "the new forums are worse than the current forums" is something that CCP should take seriously, but does not appear to be.
Here are a couple of very basic, "Web Design 101"-type design problems, previously identified, that have somehow escape fixing so far:- The table of posts in a forum section has five columns that each have a single line of text per row (Topics, Author, Replies, Views, Likes) and one that has two lines of text per row (Last Post). This creates a significant waste of screen real estate in the first five columns. These rows should be one line each.
- The size of the main font of the forum should be adjustable, independent of the page as a whole (i.e., it should be possible to choose different type sizes without enlarging the whole page using something like CTRL+"+" in a web browser). This is a basic sort of accessibility feature. At a minimum, if the forum will force a small typeface, it should at least be a more legible face, e.g., Tahoma instead of Arial.

This... you say you have two extra months... well USE them and overcome whatever 'technical problems' you have with importing 8 years of work by your players.
Or aren't we important enough to consider - yet again?

Someone needs to explain to me what the problem is with archiving the old forums. It seems to me if you want to research or reread something in the old forums you push the old button and push the new button for the new forum. All info is still available.
What am I missing?

It shouldn't be that hard, folks import data between forums all the time.

IMO the problem is you are then asking people to really do up to four things to find info.
A) Search 'new' forum (with functional search) - see if they get what they need. If not then - B) Go to google and do the same search on 'old' forum (since old forum search CCP left broken). Then - C) Weed results between old and new forums by looking at each address... Then - D) Go to old forum if you find a 'hit' there.
Bit much to ask paying customers to do don't you think? Frankly not importing 8 years of customer contributions is VERY insulting... especially since they now admit they have two extra months of time to work on it.

you are missing that CCP wants to DELETE a lot of threads. Installing Incarna AND the new forums at the same time ought to have been tipping everybody off that something is rotten in the Kingdom of Denmark. Why do i think that things are going to get worse? Much worse so their way out of the PR mess would be new forums? |

The obvious answer to your question is that you will not have access to the forums. Not that the community is missing anything by your loss. Your posts have always been whining and complaining with nothing constuctive offered. You'll log into EVEGate in the end - your kind always does and when you do you'll just go on my hide list. |
