It seems awfully alot considering we're supposed to be down a couple thosuands of subs according to my copy and pasting over at that one one google document thread.
Either way the accountoffskis seem to be over exaggerating thier positions. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 3APR11

Assuming there hasn't been any "code adjustments". I too know of sites purporting X people doing something, a code here and normalization there can make it say whatever you want. CCP's damage control of late has been nuke, ban, ban, silence, nuke. Wouldn't surprise me in the least that they are dishonest enough to start fidget numbers to hide an exodus. Remember they are not public, they don't have to be honest in regards to their sub numbers or those online.

Subs do not instantly end.
Some are on year plans... so will take a while for sub to actually expire :)

Canceling a subscription doesn't mean you're account is closed at that moment. Many would have time for even months before it will begin to become evident. I pay yearly, so I have 6 months remaining on one account.
The metric WILL show up though,as the logs showing cancellations will be evident to CCP.
The more immediate and instant metric is daily logons, but that isn't a direct relationship to subscription status.

Because everyone's remaining time must conveniently ran out the day after they cancel their subs? I'm not saying there's no exaggeration but it's feasible a lot of people are playing out the remainder of their sub, giving stuff away to friends or trying to crash Jita, Amarr and Dodixie

An unsub date and cancellation date are not the same thing. Some people have days left, some might have months. I'm sure everyone will log in occasionally until all their time runs out.

As you can see, Incarna is the first expansion in Eve history without a bump of logins for the runup. It is also the first where the # of logins has gone down every day after release.

Logged on earlier to move some assets to my remaining account and to check out the scene in Jita. As previously stated, accounts do take time to wind down (july 22 for me). This account will, however, not be back.

Let's also remember; Incarna was/is the most WAITED for expansion in Eve Online.
I've been waiting for it since 2006.

Umm, you do know they just released an expansion right? Not just any expansion either, Incarna. You know the expansion that gets you out of the ship, that people claim they will flock to the game after it's release. If CQ was such a wonderful success don't you think they should be breaking their PCU record or getting close to it? CCP needs to log more alts.

For a saturday right after a major *cough* expansion I think 45000 is really low. Certainly not consistent with the usual trend right after new updates.

Some people (myself included) are letting a number of their accounts expire to send a message (4 in my case) but not walking away from the game (yet) since we're hoping for a sea-change. Since those people probably wouldn't log in all their accounts at one time their missing accounts won't necessarily show up on the logged in numbers.

people are logged to talk about the issue. it's not because they are online that they are pleased, see jita's protest and such. to have decent number you need to wait at least one week...

I'd also point out, a new expansion is usually associated with a spike in user numbers, particularly one which is supposed to be as new-user oriented as this. A flat-line counts as a failure here, I'm afraid.
Indeed, this week is a time when CCP should be getting all kinds of positive press regarding Incarna and the great new features. Instead, we're seeing stories of absurd price gouging, player rage and Jita protests. So while the 'metrics' may not be obviously negative for CCP, it'll be hard to spin this as a good week.

I don't really care at this point if 100k people log on, tbqfh.
Also, CCP invented their own bot last year for testing purposes (it's a headless client with no GUI and they can run a few hundred on a single computer) and given how much I trust CCP these days, and how much they're willing to distort the truth and reality, I wouldn't put it past them to log on a few thousand of those bots to fudge the numbers.
But they're probably not doing that and everyone is really happy and this will all end well. --------------------- Countdown to sub running out: 8 days. |

Interesting. Form the largest corp/alliance made up completely of unsubs looking to go out in hilarity by mass ganking in the hubs and burning thru all their assets on one last party. And gank noobs.

Been in Jita/Amarr lately have we?
No I thought not because close to 10% of the curretn PCU are there.
Have a guess what they're doing.
Oh and you have some strange smelling brown stuff on your head - may want to take a shower there you know?

For all the people saying subs don't end for a month or more: if you hate the new update so much why are you still playing? Seems rather psychopathic to me.

The metrics for logons wont show any significant effect for at least a month. My own sub runs out on july 24th and its not being reupped, put the cancellation in today with the comment that unless they flat state they wont put in pay for bonus items i wont be resuscribing. Its going to be a very gradual thing visibly and the logons wont be noticaeable till august realistically but i can guess theres a couple of accountants being paid overtime this weekend to monitor the subscription falloffs -----------------------

I think the word you are looking for is counter productive. Psychopathic means something else (and quite probably implies you are trolling for a reaction).

The reason why people are still posting here and playing the game, even to protest is because they still love the game they are just unhappy with CCP's current direction. And the majority of the complaints about the expansion are more concerns with CCPs future direction rather than the current state. Most notably the fact that they have dodged the question about whether or not they'll sell ingame advantages or conveniences for Aurum. And the fact that they've hinted at that in the future they'd like to make CQ mandatory and you won't be able to not load the station environment.
A lot of users would also like the old hanger view back as a option, since CQ has actually taken away a lot of features and made quick access to menus more difficult. And there is a lot of controversy surrounding why they can't just make Incarna opt-in (Especially at the moment when it's literally just minmatar CQ). ---

Edited by: Nuramori on 25/06/2011 16:42:17 You nailed it suitonia. Unlike the myopic OP, most that have unsubbed will play until their time expires because they don't hate the game, in fact hope that CCP will respond positively. A cancelled subscription is easily reinstated before it times out.
If I wanted to stop playing and hated the game I wouldn't have played for the years I have, and would biomass. But just because I love playing the game doesn't mean that I can't plan for what is coming, make a statement by canceling (they will see that log transaction as a metric) and still play until either the inevitable happens or things reverse itself. Principle comes first in protest.
Now, if tomorrow MT showed up in the game as a non vanity option such as skill buying, I would biomass all my characters and backcharge CCP on my CC.
It hasn't come to that, so I remain hopeful.
