As mentioned by CCP Fallout, our concerns and complaints are seen as a waste of their time. I believe this highlights the exact attitutide most of us are sick and tired of. I've spent multiple $1,000's on this game and my concerns are a waste of their time.
Here's a thought; I can dump this game and get along fine. I'll still have a nice office, 401K and fat salary. I can live without you, but can you live without us?? Hope you guys have fun finding work on that godforsaken rock of yours after the dust settles (no pun intended). I hear fermented whale meat sells really well abroad. I hope you enjoy your future carreer as a fish monger.
You guys can go to hell.

He specifically claimed that all the banning and deleting was taking away time "collecting" feedback.

He was talking about the various spam threads about countries declaring war, and threads like it, but if you want to take things out of context so you can validate your unfounded rage then by all means, post more stupid ****.

No, what you're doing right now is waste of CCP's time. i.e. Making another useless post where to meaninglessly rage at CCP to make yourself feel big.

Way to completely take his reply out of context.
One of the main complaits is that CCP has not listened to the complaints of their playerbase.
Yet when they are making a concerted effort to do so, the forum is flooded with childish, hateful, no content, look at me posts.
STFU if you have nothing meaningful to say while this gets sorted out.

We are not taking what you say out of context, we legitimately do not understand that after a thread with 5200 replies saying we hate what you're doing with eve you could take a hint that the community doesn't like this. We were NOT talking about ponies and wardecs, most of the feedback is collecting dust on the threads as for some reason CCP simply refuses to acknowledge it, like how many more million posts do you need to have on forums to recognize few issues; I am sorry but this is simply another insult to the community.

So..... one CCP employee is in charge of moderating forums, banning players, gathering feedback, relaying feedback in a concise form, talking to the players via forum, and has been appointed as the "Pony Police"?
Are the other 99.999% of CCP too busy sitting in from of the Monocle Money Machine waiting for the gold to come?

This entire situation could have been avoided with a little respect. Instead, we got:
- Ignored
- Talked down to
- Our complaints ridiculed
- Attempts to neutralize the issue entirely ('the chief complaint is regarding the high cost of goods in the Noble Market'? Are you kidding me?)
Nope, CCP had to be disdainful to the playerbase. Now they have the frothy mess of forum flames they deserve.

Fallout... Surely the ponies and war declarations are themselves pretty obvious and critical feedback: lots of people are angry.
Surely you ought to keep a count of the number of ponies, show them to your boss and use their somewhat preposterous example to highlight exactly how angry we are? ---- I belong to Silent Ninja (Hopefully that should cover it). |

Hahaha, really? EVE community is one of the most touchiest MMO -communities I know of. "No reply to my demands in 5 minutes? THEY MUST BE IGNORING THEIR CUSTOMERS, FIRE ZE HATE MISSILEZ!" How long has this another storm in a cup been going on? A day? Two? It's pretty common for many companies to take a week at least to form an official statemets, in EVE, not answering some forum warrior's thread in 10 hours is considered "hating your customers." Yeah I TOTALLY get that you HAVE to prioritize removing pony pictures instead of gathering our feedback. After all, those pony pictures might damage our mental health if left undeleted.

Originally by: Marchocias Fallout... Surely the ponies and war declarations are themselves pretty obvious and critical feedback: lots of people are angry.
Surely you ought to keep a count of the number of ponies, show them to your boss and use their somewhat preposterous example to highlight exactly how angry we are?
Because having 1000 pony pics instead of 999 is the deal breaker, right?

Basically you are admitting you don't know how to do your job. And also that you will not recognise any conflicting opinions. That is what you are saying there.
Basically you are admitting that you like pink dresses. And also that you enjoy licking your own anus. That is what you are saying there.
Hey, I like inserting my own nonsensical meaning on top of what people actually said.

You just said that posting ponies gets your attention better than voicing concerns.

Really? The problem(s) werent made abundantly clear in the first 48 hours so your still trying to "collect feedback?" Get ****ing real. Quit stalling for time and using the community as a scapegoat. And dont bother posting anymore if it dosnt ADDRESS THE SITUATION AT ITS CORE. We are not taking what you say out of context, we legitimately do not understand that after a thread with 5200 replies saying we hate what you're doing with eve you could take a hint that the community doesn't like this. But apparently in Iceland the customers opinion doesn't meant ****.
We know the community is unhappy. We have a long list of issues that the community has brought to our attention in the last several days and then some, and my job is to help ensure that this is being shared with and understood up above, and to continue gathering data on what you guys are saying. It's becoming increasingly difficult to do this when we're dealing with pony posts.
Consider what I personally have been locking: country declaration threads. In the amount of time that I spend locking and deleting that thread, I could have read 5 posts and taken some pretty valuable notes and taken some pretty effective quotations down. Or, I could be providing an answer to a player question, or researching player responses to some other topic of import.
I am very passionate about EVE Online players. I am proud to be a member of this community, and find your honesty and passion invigorating. One of the brightest aspects of my job is directly interacting with you guys. When you are angry, I take note of this. I listen. When you like things, I listen and take note of that too. My whole day revolves around you guys. But I feel that I am not working towards your needs if what I'm working on is removing ponies and war dec threads from the forums. I love this game, so i feel the rage that ppl want to hurt CCP,
I know so many players that dont want to log in anymore because there is nothing to do .. so add new content make your players want to stay , you just added 1 another place to be bored in.
2 MICRO transactions so this mean the game is free to play you cant have your damn cake and eat it to.
Sad when your own player base want to crash the server.
Instead of crying about our damn post go get the players the answers they want?

Are you suggesting we pay you.... So infact you should be listening to the community and NOT deleting what the community is posting. But infact we do not pay you. We pay CCP and they pay you. We obviously have little control over how they spend their money.
And yes I agree you are wasting your time deleting these threads and posts, so stop doing it.

Just read this. It sums up the thoughts of the entire community. The players paying to play this game spent enough time putting it together, would the people being paid for developing it spend some time reading it? ---

A very important question has been asked: are pony threads and wardecs (I can't believe I just said that in normal conversation) so absolutely, vitally, life-threateningly important that they absolutely must be kept 121% on top of in 24/7 realtime? Or can you, y'know, maybe let a bit of harmless (or even beneficial) forum spam slide while you do what the majority actually want you to do? That thing threatening the integrity of your relationship with your customers?

He's doing his job, and is very busy...but he still takes the time to post to this thread. Now I say we start helping him out, and stop posting for a while...give the community team some time to catch up before posting any more Spam.
On a related note: The reason the war declaration threads came about was restlesness from the community due to the lack of updates. We've made our point, and are currently beating a dead horse (not to be confused with an undead horse) I say we wait for CCPs response before raging more...besides, the protest in Jita is currently going on...spamming the forums isn't helping

And here I was thinking that it would help if Soundwave or someone else involved could address the situation; instead we have you, Pann and Manifest responding to these threads by saying they can't help. I honestly don't expect any sort of "official" responses happening until Monday where the CCP management thinks the forum rage will subside. Then maybe a bit of the misdirection too and address the actual problems to following Monday.

Originally by: CCP Fallout No, ponies and war declarations are a waste of time. What I should be doing now is gathering your feedback and spreading this on throughout the company. This is what you guys pay me to do. Instead, I'm removing pony pictures from the forums.
Please do not misconstrue or take what I said out of context. Doing so will continue to cause strife amongst the community, unfortunately.
I don't think this is constructive, and I don't think it helps you use me as your advocate.
Don't take it personal, you're "just" the one taking the heat. Thing is that it's rather shameful that the people "up above" need someone to fill them in in this situation. ________

With all due respect: In fairness, you could have been more clear about what you meant if I recall the post in question correctly. Sometimes fires are started from clumsy sentences or bad communication, and given the current state of the EVEO forums, it is probably a good idea to keep this in mind for any and all CCP employees posting.

The fact that your current repsponse to this single issue consist of failed redirection and silence only aggrivate the situation.

To those who are unfamiliar with how any corporation works: the CEO will not be reading these forums, and no employee lower than him will have the power to make him read the forums. CEOs delegate. They make lower employees do the grunt work---which is what CCP Fallout is doing. So while it may make you feel better, screaming at Fallout to make the CEO read the forums is a futile gesture.
I'm not happy about how things work, either, but at least understand how a corporate hierarchy operates.

Shock! Horror! I actually want to thank Fallout for putting the time in to answer this thread and explain that she(?) is in no position to answer the main issues, while justifying what she(?) is doing.
Now we just need someone who actually can give us answers to speak up.

I think most reasonable people recognize that you (Fallout) are not exactly in charge of things over there. So really, I'd avoid the forums and go bang on the door of Heilmar or whomever and tell them an answer is needed. We want to know what CCP is trying to do and what their plans are going forward, because with everything that's happened, people are more unsure now than ever.

CCP Fallout,
I understand where you're coming from, but the fact that we aren't getting any information is only making people more upset and angry. I mean this as an honest question, but at this point in time, after everything that has been said, do you really need to keep taking notes and quotes on what people are saying? Isn't it pretty clear why people are bringing out the torches and pitchforks?
CCP Pan said yesterday we'd get a dev blog talking about things, but the workday is over in Iceland, and the day is getting pretty long in America as well, but still nothing.
I know you're not involved with that, but that's what people see and what people are feeling.

These forums are full of angry kids joining the train of fury and who in the end don't really give a **** about this game. But I'm sure in this noise you managed to find the legitimate concerns of players loving this game and not hoping for its downfall. Some figures of this game, the game-content creators that make alliance scrubs like me login, have expressed their opinion in the threadnaught. Without you their valuable feedback is lost so I hope you'll get their words up in the ccp ladder

You would not have had to remove pony pictures if you guys had listened to the community from the start. There has been complete silence from you (ccp) all freaking day.
Ok the pony picture might not have been the smartest way of getting your attention, but nothing else work...
This is your fault, do not try to blame the community...
Indeed, the Pony pictures, and The Door Thread(s) were started as a kind of mocking protest at the lack of any official response whatsoever. It's not ideal, true, but this isn't an ideal situation. Hopefully all that has now stopped.
Anyway, how long does it take to get a 'Yes' or 'No' to the question "Are you going to sell ships and ammo via microtransactions?" All day? All weekend? SOMEONE must be able to give an answer at CCP. You know, the guy with "The Buck Stops Here" plaque on his/her desk? It certainly shouldn't take an entire weekend, and an answer would calm things down one way or another.

While I think Tippia made a very good effort of covering why people are bothered by CCP's immediate actions, I think it needs to be added that this new direction doesn't bode well for EVE's long term success. It suggests to me that EVE is more or less going to remain in it's current unfinished state. Rather than growing the userbase through added and improved content, we'll see a vanity first-person mode and a hat store. (I elabored on this here.)
I don't doubt that people will calm down about microtransactions and buying monocles. I just lament the fact that we're getting this instead of a rich, full world.

the issue here is, we tried. we posted constructive replies on the first thread, but only after over 24 hours we managed to get something from Pann.
after that all we had was community people posting here and there, acting more like CCP's scapegoats.

I completely agree that posting ponies and other distractions are a waste of time. Both ours and yours... I also believe that the fastest way to stop people posting ponies is to give us feedback to talk about... Apparently in eve silence breeds ponies...
Even if you haven't decided what to say, you could post a dev blog outlining the scope of your discussions... what issues are you debating, what is and what is not on the table... what are the challenges you face... what further feedback could we give that would help with the deliberations... even a list of grievances you believe we have that we could look at and suggest additions too...
give us something to write about....
I agree that the senseless attacks on both individuals and the company itself are immature, hurtful, uncalled for, and a waste of time... I also don't believe you can stop people doing it by removing/cleaning posts any more than Canute could turn back the tide... the beast has been woken... and unless it gets something to feed on it will feed on itself.

Please do not misconstrue or take what I said out of context. Doing so will continue to cause strife amongst the community, unfortunately.
We are not taking what you say out of context, we legitimately do not understand that after a thread with 5200 replies saying we hate what you're doing with eve you could take a hint that the community doesn't like this. But apparently in Iceland the customers opinion doesn't meant ****.
Fallout I believe you, but I also know the backside of your position. I also have to deal with angry customers at times and I feel bad for them, empathize and pass their concerns up the food chain. It's up the food chain that is the problem. You can collect all the data you want but if CCP Hellmar does not give a rats butt, then all our anger, all your data collection, crisis management and such is wasted. Not until enough of us unsub and his wallet is empty will things have a shot of changing.
I don't think this is constructive, and I don't think it helps you use me as your advocate.

Is the fact that CCP has been intentionally misleading the community about their plans for the direction of the game one of these issues?
What what will CCP do to bring about more transparency and accountability? It's just one scandal after another.
This.

Fallout we love you and know you are trying to do a good job amongst all the pitchforks and rages.
it comes down to 3 things.
1. Where was the option for incarna ccp talked about. its either CQ or a picture of a door, which is minscontrued of showing players 'the door'.
Can we not compromise with cq for those who want it and can use it, and ship spinning for others?.
2. The leaked memo and the statement that Ammo, implants, ships, boosters, sp and others stuff WHICH would would make huge gameplay changes needs to be addressed.
IF ANY OF THOSE ITEMS GO ON THE MARKET EVER, the community has stated it will walk. The community needs a statement from Hillmar himself stating That this will never happen. that the NeX store will be vanity only and nothing else.
3. A promise form ccp devs, that they will be more transparent with the csm and the community NO MORE NDA. It our game as much as it is yours, unless we all work together for a common goal of the best sci-fi simulator ever then we will fall apart.
we love this game, we dont want to see it die, most of us have no where to go any everything else is too carebearish out there.
So please just answer the big questions, and put in that fix. We dont want to see game changing items every being sold for money.

People like CCP Fallout and CCP Penn SHOULD NOT be the target of our/your anger, they are just messengers and peacekeepers.
Taking things out of context is what all this is about. Look at how many times "Greed is Good" has been quoted. Each and every time WITHOUT the ending questionmark. The actual quote is "Greed This is about making noise and e-drama nothing else. CCP SHOULD ban away. Better just close the forums for a week.

I, for one, think that the reason the forums have lit up with pony pictures, etc etc, is because you have a disillusioned mob who believes that nothing we say/do will affect the direction implied in the leaked newsletter.
For reference, here are my thoughts on the situation at hand: 1. I happen to REALLY LIKE Incarna. 2. I don't even mind NEX/MT, as long as it's just for vanity items. 2a. Conversely, the newsletter has me concerned that "just for vanity items" isn't going to stay around long. 3. I think CCP Soundwave does not deserve to be fired; however, he should probably keep in mind that a game based around the kind of spying metagame we have, will have that leak over into IRL a bit, and even internal-to-CCP newsletters may show up in the wild (as this one has done). 4. I think CCP needs a much better 'spin doctor' (for lack of a nicer term) that has the authority to -get- the info the playermob is spamming about in our Frankenstein-esque torch-wielding mob of violence and :bittervet: and then present it both accurately and in a way that expresses an understanding of the actual player concerns and responds to those in a professional manner.
Just my two pence. I still love this game, but sometimes I think FHC has it right when they use the :psyccp: icon.

if your job is to convay how the community feels and feed that information back to the peopel above you, i must ask where were you in the last 3 months when we have stated over and over again CQ was a resorce hogg, that would at best run ok ish on most peoples hardware and on many peoples would cause massive issues? where were you when we stated that running multiboxed was going to become a thing of the past for most people with CQ as its buggy and makes hardware work hard while being just sat in station looking at a dam wall? where were you when we stated we were against MT? where were you when we stated that MT for more than vanity items was bad for eve and the players?
i love eve, so much so i have 8 accounts. i up til tuesday could run 6 with np on my pc, 60fps not a issue. now its 3 at most. you have made the fucntionality of the game worse, changed simple things that have made the gaming experiance worse. and all to extract as much money from the players as possible. if you are so passionate about eve, where the hell were you?

BS
CCP have had three days with mutiple substantial threadnaughts to "gather feedback", you know exactly what the customer's problems are. Claiming to need oh-so-much time to "discover" the blatantly, *painfully* obvious concerns that players have brought up is an outright lie.

With all due respect, this started out as a trust issue; you (the company) telling us one thing, and then being seen to do something completely different. Your method for resolving this so far, has been telling us one thing and then doing something completely different. There's a huge disconnect here if you can't see why people are going bat**** on the forums and in game, and I think, your priority in terms of information relay, should be that to tell the higher-ups that CCP is doing the exact thing that originally ****ed us off, in terms of handling this situation.
I know your company doesn't pay overtime, and I know that as a company talking to your users is incredibly hard, but, it's about damn time you all started doing some actual, visible damage control, and stopped making posts in threads saying you're 'working on it', then having hours pass with nothing happening. Get the people concerned back from the pub, and have them communicate. It will do wonders for your moderation overhead. Trust me.
Not doing so is just going to keep leading to ponies being posted, and trade hubs being sieged. This is not the outcome you want from this, as a company.

Although it may be your job to take notes and pass them along, over the course of the past 3 days you must have already gathered sufficient notes that the people who are actually responsible know the essential issues and know what their answer is going to be.
At this point, time spent locking and deleting war decs and pony pictures is just as useful as time spent taking yet more notes. Everyone's going to continue to re-post the same old **** until some of the devs that are responsible for the ****storm actually reply to the many points that have already been raised.
Look at it this way.
Posting Ponies is nothing more or less than the virtual equivalent of standing outside CCP's HQ with placards and banners. A peaceful, if slightly obnoxious, protest.

I have sympathy for you, Fallout. You're a community guy, and you're stuck doing the work here which really must be miserable. You do not deserve this. Nobody in the CM side of CCP does. It's the design guys and the developers who should be taking the hellfire, not you.
Unfortunately, right now, (and I can't speak personally because I'm not spamming) making your job a living hell is kind of the point. Somewhere, somebody, one of your superiors, did something stupid. The time for diplomacy is past. People aren't interested anymore. There will be no civility. There will be screams and hellfire. And unfortunately, your job puts you in the line of fire.
But don't get ****ed at the players. Get ****ed at your superiors. We scream at you, and you should be screaming at your superiors, and your superiors should be screaming at their superiors, and so on until somebody in a position to actually do **** is being screamed at from all directions to the point where he or she is required to act. That is the point of this. To hell with patience. To hell with diplomacy. Your superiors had over twenty four hours to act. Their reactions were insubstantial. Blame them, not the players.
Still, I'm sorry to see you community guys in the firing line. Stay strong.

then maybe its time the policies change, cause obviously its not working. |

I don't think this is constructive, and I don't think it helps you use me as your advocate.
Since when did we decide Fallout was our advocate? The CSM are our advocates, you are a forum moderator.

Edited by: Algathas on 26/06/2011 04:43:22 EVE is a game we put a lot of time in to. For many of us its a significant part of our daily life and has been for many years. When most of us signed up we had a certain vision of the future of eve - the sandbox, player driven economy, meaningful loss PVP, absence or MT, etc.
Now we are being presented with a different vision of the future of eve - one which is quite different from what we had seen in the past.
The concern of most people is:
What is the future CCP envisions? Is it MT for things beyond pure vanity items? Does it go beyond that? Can I trust CCP to follow through with what they say? Is the future that CCP wants for EVE a future that I can see myself investing the next several years of my gaming time and money on?
No matter what the answer is, its ok. We understand you are a business. Some of us whom the new vision of the future doesn't work for will move on to other things. Others will stay on and enjoy eve and the developments to come. We just want to know so we know where we stand and can make the choice.

And for those who think that it will give more $ to develop the things in eve we have been wanting think again. The $ will only fund devs to make more of this utter crap instead of fixing / adding core features to the game. Why should they update and add things for "free" when they can **** you for more cash by making clothes with their time. This is already evident with the last updates. Nerf this, screw that, bunch of updates with little thought or effort put into them, while their devs are spending time proudly making clothes to sell.
If they really wanted to make clothes a great system, they would make a way to manufacture them with patterns, PI textiles, dyes, etc. The same with painting your ship - paints could be manufactured, industrialists could paint ships, etc. Instead were left with disappointment.

I for one am actually losing patience and I only just bought PLEX for this game recently, unless you are somehow claiming that CCP are hard at work fixing the problems that have been helpfully highlighted to you in this thread then as someone who is supposed to be working with us you should be at their offices now and beating them over the head with a copy of Star Wars Galaxies until they get the message.
It amazes me how you think you can get away with behaving in such a manner and yet think you will still have your job by the end of the year, if you cared at all about what was going on then you would be able to see an extremely bad business decision if it was made.

You guys screwed up at CCP - leaked the document or published it on purpose to see the community react to it. Well there is a reaction now and what I cannot comprehend is that having a crysis like that (cause for your company it is indeed a crysis) you do not have a single person at the office over the weekend compotent enough to actually post and answer to single question (the big yellow one) or at the very least write something like - We know it's bad, official statement coming on Monday. (just an example). No, instead you send CCP Zulu with his $1000 pants, faith in Incarna's gorgousness and Hilmar's sikrit evemail telling the players to go and **** off. This is terribad policy and it seems that as a company you again totally missed the point on communications.

Aye, the people up the pecking order delegating work to people, so they have specific tasks? Preposterous!
Seriously though, it doesn't suprise me personally. If you ever look up a corporate food chain, the higher up they are, the less they know/care about what's happening on the ground floor, unless it affects one of their carefully balanced points on the reports they recieve.. and even then all they do is put pressure on the manager of the area the 'issue' is coming from..
Oft times, people in other departments genuinely don't have a clue what's happening, or the functioning of, other departments and roles beyond rumor and the odd bit of cooler-talk.
I'm not being a CCP apologist, but I believe CCP Fallout when he says he doesn't know, and isn't privy to this information.
I understand what some corporate culture is like, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to comment on something handled by another team that I have only a vague understanding about, and get lynched for not having all the facts.. especially in the middle of this quote-warring firestorm of rage.
CCP Fallout: If you read this, don't give up faith in this community. I'm sure you understand most of the anger is just misdirected.

JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION!!
This is not a question that I can answer as I am neither familiar with work in this particular feature, nor am a member of the team working on it. Our corporate policy is that we can only talk about that which we work on.
Ok, that's at least some kind of communication between CCP and their costumers. I think CCP Fallout has made clear on what he could spend his time on if he wouldn't have to look for ponies. What we all shouldn't forget is that it's still weekend and even with all our complains and our hate there is nothing we can do right now. Yes there are question which are not answered by now and yes there had been several chances on which CCP could have made it easier for us and theirselfs. But I can also imagine that gathering all responsible people and contacting all necessary departments on a weekend isn't quite easy, mostly impossible nor is it fair to demand a solution right at this moment whilst we're playing games. So even though we get absolutely no response on our most frequently asked questions I think people like CCP Fallout are doing at least their job by listening to us. But listening doesn't necessarily involve talking. So CCP Fallout does what he can possibly do on a weekend: "Working on reducing the amount of ponies." Neither that's very pleasing for him nor is it for us because it doesn't support our situation at all. We all should at least consider giving him the chance to take notes and take them to whereever in the company decisions are made. Possibly that will help and hopefully we will get answers during next week. Although i seriously doubt it.
Just let CCP have the time to go through all possible consequences which a simple answer to our question could lead into. Yes they've heavily broken our trust and destroyed their image, they have shown their true face to the community. But despite that this is something they can't solve in about a few days. I personally think we should at least let do people like CCP Fallout do their job. Let's complain, let's rage and let's express ourselfs about this situation. But let's do it by putting the ponies aside. Even though i like them. __________________________________ Space is massive. Humanity is not. |

We know the community is unhappy.
I don't think this is constructive, and I don't think it helps you use me as your advocate.
1. you are the only one of ccp staff reacting, so my props to you. 2. if you can't answer our questions, tell the persons "above" that eve and forums are burning. as a community manager you can support our side as well. 3. in this function you are the wrong person to shout at. 4. tell them "above" that expressions of "angry" and "unhappy" are inappropriate, theses expressions are too tempered,
look at this thread! http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1536495
look at the number of people that have chosen to cancel their accounts in 48 hours after deployment! is losing 3500 subscribed accounts up to now something not to talk about?
So, Fallout, if you are the one, that has been send to calm the mass, you won't be successfull, unless you deliver answers, because the community is raging for answers.
As long as these answers are not given, as long as "senior management" doenst come down to reality with a clearing statement and apology for all this capitalistic **** that is ruining the core of EVE and the credibility of ÇÇP, that long all our posting here, is waste of time, because CCP seems to want to sit this protest out and doesnt give a **** about our concerns!

i love eve, so much so i have 8 accounts. i up til tuesday could run 6 with np on my pc, 60fps not a issue. now its 3 at most. you have made the fucntionality of the game worse, changed simple things that have made the gaming experiance worse. and all to extract as much money from the players as possible. if you are so passionate about eve, where the hell were you?
Look no further than this for the cause of all this rage. I honestly think nobody but the programmers at CCP ran CQ even once to see how it plays. If they did I doubt it would have been OK'd for release. But I guess "brain storming" ways to "monetize" 3rd party apps (lol 99$) takes priority over actually maintaining the EvE experience.

So by doing that little damagecontrol Zulu tried ,he gained more damage by losing face to the community and outside the community. Being silent is doing CCP a lot more harm then they think. it comes down to 3 things.
We dont want to see game changing items every being sold for money.
jesus christ hawky, you really think they give a flyin fvck?

they don't it is every time the same thing they make changes it the game and hide ther desk and lets othere one take the hit but you see never them answer in here is every time the same only you see them when some thing new is comming then you see them in front so stay off the game it was no now most have other crab in it

To CCP Fallout and CCP Staff :
If I may, it really seems like a fail cascade that could have so easily been avoided. Even with the abusive (from a player's view) treatment of subs like myself by your CEO literally, and by attrition the CCP Team.
Consider, I'm a RL Executive for a Data Center company (CTO). In our company, whereby we serve the same international flavor of customers, it is a published rule that customer issues ultimately end up on my desk, and are discussed with the CEO daily in our daily executive briefings.
It is beyond comprehension that given the magnitude of outcry, that the CCP CEO and other senior management haven't made a direct statement to the player base. Worried about PR ?? I mean seriously, give me a break, when your company is receiving the hugest black eye in history due to the exact behavior described (perceived arrogance, indifference, etc), the LAST thing CCP should be doing is ignoring the issue.
For what it's worth, I'll make a suggestion from my company's playbook. The first thing I would do is compose a short, concise email that could be circulated to my affected customers, stating that I am sorry and apologize for the perceptions and issues that had arisen. Further, that I would be investigating the complaints and would provide daily updates via email until the course of direction is decided and resolved. Last, I would designate in addition to myself, our PR Relations officer and a CSM that would continue to be highly visible and involved, and offer clear escalation paths to my team so that NO issues are being dropped.
THIS IS STANDARD CORPORATE TRIAGE MODE FOR SUCCESSFUL CORPORATIONS.
Instead, the palpable arrogance and lack of ANY clear communications is staggering. I don't know about executive staff at CCP, but I'd be unable to sleep literally, knowing that the company I built was crumbling around me and I did nothing to try and staunch the flow, regardless of how much money I may have already made personally from it.
So again, instead of being arrogant and distant, as so many have noted, a STRONG suggestion would be to :
1. Immediate statement from CEO, stating that CCP is sorry for not responding sooner and that this will not be happening again
2. Immediate clarification of what is really a simple issue WRT the monetary issues and how this will be played out. Note, if there's concern about your investor base, I'm pretty sure they understand that declining user base = less MRC = Less valuation of company and consequently an ROI that is in decline.
3. Drop the perceived arrogant Icelandic "way of life" and come down off the pedestal by getting in front of the issues by using your webpage first and foremost, and forums to let fans and players know you're listening.
4. Create a webcast in similar format to the Alliance Tourney whereby the CEO will speak directly to the customer base and answer each question on point that has been raised
5. Publically announce that CCP will be reinvesting in the player base that made them what they are today.
Again, it just simply blows my mind that the above steps haven't been taken yet. Surely, the arrogance and perceived "power" of managing a very successful MMO hasn't gotten to everyone's head ? Never mind that emails were leaked and how you really feel was exposed, issue an apology and be done with it. I can assure you that nothing sucks more than the fall from the top more than knowing you could have prevented it, but didn't because your ego was in the way......
Anyways, sorry for rant here, but as others have said, it just really ****es me off that a game I've invested time and energy into is falling off a cliff and taking a huge black eye, simply because management can't seem to be able to do the one thing they are paid most to do : Manage and get involved in the issues actively.

Why are you concerned with cleaning up the forums anyway? You got a kitchen fire going and your worrying sink being clogged. This PR nightmare is not going away, the gaming news sites have locked and centered and Every WoW/FPS/RTS player on the planet knows all about. The story is printed in french and german for good measure. The battle to control the messenger is LOST. Its time for CCP to stop being afraid of looking bad, and actually prove they can accomplish something more than horrid patches.

Hi Fallout,
please take a step back and look at the big picture.
CCP can easily invest in and set up an alliance tournament, podcast, video streams, all along with video reels, audio material and so forth. They can invest hundreds of thousands of dollars setting up Fanfest to show off new shinies and do talkity talk. Yet when it comes to simply answering some of the critical questions that have been brought up by your customer base weeks before you launched this pile of ****, we have a single person - you - responsible for relaying info to the higher ups at CCP? Suddenly it's all so difficult and it takes specialists in the field to answer these very simple questions?
Give me a break. Don't you see what's wrong with that picture?
Please, before you do any more posts, realise the situation your bosses have put you in and then think twice about what you say to the community you say you love so much.
Peace, out.

If your job is to be our advocate, why don't you have a team of forum moderators to handle menial **** like locking non-constructive threads, while you focus on communicating our real concerns to people who can do something about them?

Cancel your subscription since CCP only care about player actions, apparently, and join the protests in Jita till your remaining time runs out! The hell with CCP. Eve is not the only MMO out there, not even the only sandbox! Heck, even if I limited myself to single player games I've a huge stack of unplayed ones I've been buying since I got into MMOs, but never get the time to play thanks to MMOs :-D
Here's hoping this marks the beginning of the end for Eve, cause the way they've set themselves up (read the leaks and devblog to see what I mean), it'll be beautiful poetic justice. -- Frog blast the vent core! |

Didn't bother to read the whole thread, this says it all to be honest. CCP Fallout, you know the concerns, and you know where to find the very well argued point-by-point summaries. "But your pony pictures" is another hand-wringing, la-la-la-we're-not-listening response. You can buy some forum time with four simple words, "NOTHING BUT VANITY ITEMS", and that will give you the time to address the rest of our concerns. That you won't do this is frankly the reason you've lost so much good will and confidence.

FWIW, I personally hear your frustration and agree that ponies and wardecs are time-wasters for you.
Sadly, they're the "cool and fun" (for some really stupid value of "cool and fun") thing at the moment. That and rioting in trade hubs.
Is ignoring them for a while an option? Seriously, in your shoes I would probably put them near the bottom of my list of priorities. Gather and summarize valuable feedback for a while and ignore the ponies.
My valuable feedback:
- Adding items to NeX that give even a tiny in-game advantage will have me burn my bridges (give away my stuff, sell my toons, and give away that stuff) and drop my subs, because I refuse to play a "pay to win" game, and every game where you can buy an in-game advantage for real money turns into "pay to win", 'cause someone with deeper pockets is always more obsessed with being "uber" than I am.
- Pricing stuff higher than the RL equivalent is silly, I don't care how "exclusive" you want it to be. I won't ever buy a shirt that costs more than the really cool Minmatar shirt I bought from Jinx last month. I might buy a custom paint job that I could apply to any Jaguar I happen to own, but (again) I would never buy a custom paint job for this Jaguar right over here, that has to go on it now, and that will never be on another ship unless I buy it for that other ship.
- I'd pay more for the ability to create my own custom paint job I could apply to any Jaguar I happen to own. How much? Dunno, the cost probably depends on how hard it would be to get the texture map applied correctly on your end. It might not even be possible, technically.

I understand it too. But when you don't get an answer when issues are raised through the correct channels (which it seems they have been many times), the only option is to just shout louder, and louder, and louder, and louder, until eventually they start to take notice. ----

You see, i think this is the problem. CCP doesn't want make matters worse by lying and nor should they.
I think it's very clear they were at least thinking about putting non vanity items in the nex store and are still thinking about it at the very least. Otherwise there would be no reason at all not to deny it from the first day it became such a major concern. They time they wait to reply is the time they try to make a decision or delay the announcement.
The profit they can make in the long run from both subscription and selling game changing vanity items is probably to big to ignore, and even in their eyes worth it to lose to so much players over it.
Or maybe they are actually losing more subscriptions they anticipated and don't want to decide just yet. The CEO letter was probably real, they are just waiting to see what players will do, and then make a decision.
Canceling subscriptions might scare CCP into believing they will lose to much players, but the amount that will resume their subscription before it runs out is probably big enough. I see lot's of people being angry, but i know for a fact a lot of people who don't really care and just rage on forums because they love the drama.
Imo the chance is pretty high that non vanity items will be in the store eventually, and eventually people will be able to buy them for isk on the market, then most of the complaints will wave over eventually.

I don't think this is constructive, and I don't think it helps you use me as your advocate.
I'm sorry that youÆre having to deal with so much negativity and that your job is difficult. This is all no doubt the fault of your employers. We know itÆs not yours and you can only tell us what they tell you to. However there are a limited number of ways we can try to get what we want. One of those ways is inciting rebellion and rabble rousing. Im sorry but it might take stirring up an impossible amount of **** on the forums to achieve our goals. But while we still have hope we are going to try it any way.
As for your need to listen to our concerns. I call BS on that. You have been listening to our concerns about micro transactions for years. CCP knew this would happen. 90% of the population of eve have said time and again they donÆt want them. Well if listening to us means you give us what we donÆt want then we had better keep you locking and deleting threads instead.
Once again I apologize to you personally. Our rage is not about or directed at you. But you have hosen a job against the wall, donÆt be surprised by the firing line.

Well, I suppose it depends on CCP Fallout's job description. It could be "Keep the forums cleaned up, and as time permits gather some feedback when needed." i.e. feedback is a secondary function, not primary. In his shoes, even with that description, I'd make a judgement call and say "screw the ponies, the feedback is more important today." But I'm not him.
As for the shouting, sorry, but shouting rarely has the desired effect. It comes across as a temper tantrum in a 4 year old. Also, the rioting is silly fun (silly fun is a good way to blow off steam), and pretty harmless, but the shouting on forums has the very real potential to drown any useful message in noise. Which CCP Fallout is implying with the post I quoted.

The thing is, there was no EVIDENCE of them actually listening or reacting when this stuff was talked about in the run up. Had there been, people would accept that they're doing it. If it weren't for this (and weren't for the fact that CCP has introduced stuff it categorically stated it wouldn't do already) then the ****storm wouldn't exist. It's not that we're being irrational. It's that we JUST DON'T TRUST CCP ANYMORE. ----
