For those who are asking æwhat is Ambulation?Æ it was the first term used by CCP and the community back in 2007 when this video was released. Ambulation Video 2007
That video sparked a lot of conversation and a whole new level of ideas, both pro and con, about the direction of EVE.
Now Incarna is here, we get to see our Avatars and look out first person to a ship. However, it is completely different than what was expected, honestly. What we have right now in the game is to me slightly disappointing compared to a video that was made four years ago to promote this project.
Look at the characters in that video, notice what the Amarr Lady is wearing. To me that speaks volumes about fashion of Amarr yet we donÆt see anything like that in Incarna. What we get with Incarna is the same clothing just retouched for different races. Notice the girl in the video with the short hair, her salute, her cloths. She looks very Caldari, but we donÆt even have that hair style in Incarnaàwhy???
I want to ask CCP to bring that level of racial and cultural significance to Incarna, it is fascinating to some of us.
Notice how the man and woman in the video walk down a longer dock ramp and how you can extend the vision of the screen way out to see this massive ship and tiny specs ofpeople. Why donÆt they allow that flexibility with Incarna? Give us the option to zoom way out. Give us the option to have the ship æparkedÆ and still next to the ramp so we can get a closer at it and see for the first time EVER in EVE how people compare to the ships size.
This has nothing to do with the lag, glitches or the general problems you get when a new patch is introduced, there are other threads for that.
For the record this is not me trying to slam, flame or bash CCP and Incarna. Truth be told I still like it and still feel optimistic about its potential. All I am trying to get across with this message is that, well what happened to the exciting features we saw in that video for Ambulation?
I know that incarna is brand new and that CCP will build on it, there are so many opportunities and I am fine with that. All I ask is that CCP remember to give us those amazing options that made us so anxious for Ambulationà(Incarna) way back in 2007 with one introductory video.
Thanks again CCP for an amazing product, keep bringing it!

I agree. Seems the preview of things to come was just that a preview of wishful thinking. Fabricated with software that prob has nothing to do with EVE's engine.
It's a bit like being given a blue-print of a mansion and being told--we are going to build this-.
To then being presented with a shack and being told...it's still in work. Live in here while we build around you.
Disappointing as hell only because CCP set the bar at that level...not the players. ----- THE Newsletter.....and CCP Execs |

Well pilgrim there was this fella, CCP Soundwave, who was lead designer and decided he could better, and thus you see the CQ :)
Seriously what we have is not in any way related to those early builds. Everything was done from ground up, and that's why its causing such issues. Current build I doubt could handle multiple players in the same area, be to resource intensive. They might of needed to test it on Tranq to tweak it but really it is poor QA.

One thing that really puzzles me is that the guy in the video said "it's in the game" twice. So... what happened to the game? If that was really in-game footage, they surely must have had at least the code for player interaction up and running. Did someone rage-deleted it all or something? What was already in game 4 years ago is now a year or more away?
Going by the above analogy, it's more like being shown the nearly finished mansion and told "you can move in once we get the rooms painted". Then, four years later, you are stuck in the shack with uncertain promises of a house being built at some time in the future. ---

- Flashy consoles? Check.
- Floaty ship thingy in a hangar deck? Check.
- Animations to display motor skills? Check.
- At least one piece of attire that depicts racial background? Check.
- Fancy three dimensional overhead starmap? Eh...
Ok so it seems to me like they came through with the basics of what they promised, but all the amazing more splendid things they hinted at or even proclaimed directly are still to come soonÖ.
To be perfectly honest, I understand exactly what they did and where they are going with CQ, and I am fine with it. I have not let myself get placed in a moving bubble where my own perspective as a veteran of more than three years disavows me from any and all objective viewpoints other than my own.
As far as not coming through on what they promised, well that is easy from a programming and development standpoint.
CCP does not have, never will have, and never did have unlimited resources to make this game flawless. That is just the reality of the situation that no one wants to accept. What more than likely happened is that the idea of WiS got churned over and over so many times that this designer, or that figurehead, or this developer kept tacking on more and more amazing ideas about what it could do until it was bloated with incredible overhead.
The more complex you make the fundamental pieces of a project, the harder it is to combine those pieces together in a myriad of different ways to produce a relatively healthy amount of content, i.e. they probably just made the existing platform so unattainably complicated as to make it a colossal amount of work to put out what little they have thus far.
When I hop into CQ on this account, my robe gets all up in a crazy wad around my waist and looks like a frightened slug that tripped over a line of salt, it is is ridiculous looking and bothers me. The cuffs on my arm length sleeves dance around like they have an invisible string tugging at them from some far off place, and I look like Altanr about to gank some poor hapless guard from behind whenever I walk around.
This to me spells complexity. They made the system TOO perfect and TOO qualitative, and now it is going to take them an eternity to perfect and expand upon it with the limited resources they have available or have delegated to the ongoing EVE project itself. These are good problems, it at least means we know they've overreached and as long as they include the option to see the old hangar instead of CQ, all of us can just continue on as if nothing happened, while they may or may not ever fix or expand on CQ.
Besides MT, which is an entirely different problem, I do not really see any enormous issues with CQ to be perfectly honest, if I were a new player, and I loaded my fancy new avatar for the first time, to find myself standing on some deck hangar with a holographic panel next to me, a cracked futuristic space capsule on the deck below, and an ominous and somehow larger than life rookie ship floating dangerously close in the hangar behind me, I would prolly wet my pants in joy, as a sci-fi enthusiastic.
To me, I do not really see what all the fuss is about, we all know CCP does not have the resources to truly follow through on most of their grandiose dreams and ideas, but who does? Blizzard has all the tea in China, and it still took them four years to realize that the path TBC sent them on was the wrong one, but worse than that, they decided to stay the course, but tell the subscriber base they were righting a past wrong. All the resources in the world to do things right, and they decided, hey the money's good, and this is the real world, employees have families, escorts to pay, money to launder, and money talks.
I really cannot blame CCP for trying to do the impossible with a glass that is half empty, i.e. their resources, so to me, this may be a let down, but as long as I am later allowed to switch back to the old view, I'll be alright.

I think many parts of Incarna look amazing, so much possibility. So i hope my message does not get lost in the anguish felt by many in the community right now about Incarna's misgivings.
I just hope CCP listen's to the customers to make them happy. I hope they do not give us false hopes only to deliver disappointment.

I don't believe WOD is responsible if anything ccp is using more resources to make Avatars look better because of WOD. I think its only a matter of time before ccp gets it right BUT...right now its a wreck :P
