Hey guys,
I really am in my own little world. I have been burned out from alliance warfare and live the remainder of my days in a C1 by myself. I just found out last night that you could walk in stations by someone telling me over TS. This shows you how remote of a eve life I live. So I see this AUR stuff and that people can get stuff put on their avatars.
Are people upset mainly because if you have more real life money you can do more things ingame now. Is this what it all comes down to? If so then things really haven't changed since 04. Anyone remember e-bay? I sure do....

CQ can be turned off and nobody is forcing us to purchase aurum. All the other updates released in Incarna are hardly noticeable.
In other words people are deciding to waste their time complaining about something they can choose to opt out of.
The logic is silly I know. They try to back it up with things like saying "CCP LIED TO US" (despite telling everyone exactly what was coming out) and a whole other bunch of justifications for silly logic.

I highly doubt he'll be in attendance at any live events any time soon, reguardless of the outcome of the current situtation.

This is whats realy going on....CCP are waiting to see if the number of quitting players is greater than what they expect to pull in from Incarna.
Think about it...instead of making new content, force all your loyal customers to quit, draw in a new crowd and hey presto, insta fresh new content for players who havent seen it before, vast tracks of null sec empty for newbs to explore and own...all with out having to lift a finger...pretty shrewd plan CCP.

The ability to turn off CQ is temporary. True, nobody is forcing anyone to buy aurum.
The main area of rage is over the whole micro transaction aspect appearing in eve. A year ago, we were told that Micro transactions would NOT appear in eve. We were later told they would for vanity items only, items which do not effect gameplay or grant any advantage.
Now, a inside article from CCP has leaked which shows that they are very keen to expand micro transactions to include non vanity items. A few examples are the ability to buy ships, unique faction equipment and ammo. Also, the ability to 'buy' standings with a faction. Items which may magically appear in the Eve universe without being manufactured by players in game
This is where alot of the anger is coming from as its the complete opposite of what has been said in the past. People are worried and angry about the direction Eve appears to be taking.
I am liking the Incarna aspect with being able to walk around stations etc, and i see potential in it once developed further (as many do) but thats not what most people are concerned about at the moment.
Eve has always been focused on the decisions you make, and this is how you can get to power. However, if what people fear happens and the micro transactions grow to cover other aspects, even buying skillpoints, new players will simply be able to buy their way to success and not waste time with all the mission grinding, learning, skill training and hard work. This undermines the spirit of Eve, imo.

Thing is, people already buy non-cosmetic items for real life money.
Folks buy PLEX, turn it into ISK, and use that ISK to buy things.
Adding AUR adds a new step to the process... But it isn't fundamentally any different. Especially when those NEX items can be re-sold for ISK, and PLEX can be bought with ISK and turned into AUR.
Don't get me wrong... I don't want to run into a situation where I have to pay an extra $10/month to keep a POS fueled or train skills or just buy more ammo or something... But there are people right now who do exactly that.

The big deal is that CCP is actively considering (or may have moved beyond that, and implementing as seen in ship fittings) a system to transfer everything in the game to Macrotransactions. Ammo, Ships, the sky is the limit.
The big deal is that customers are referred as "golden geese" to be sacrificed to see if there is more gold inside.
The big deal is that Yellow Scorpions coming from the nothing were not an end, but apparently, the beginning.
The big deal is that your position in the sandbox will be based on how much real money you spend.
In fact, the big deal is that before long, there will be no sandbox.
That's about it. We caught CCP having sex with another person. We saw their texts and we were described as a meal ticket. We confronted them. They looked away and said "We will give you an answer, perhaps tommorrow".
That was a few days ago.

Edited by: Ghoest on 24/06/2011 13:46:29 Here is the sequence of recent events.
1 CCP announces a $100 fee for people who develop apps if they have adds on their site - almost all players get angry CCP backs off.
2 CCP releases Incarna which has been made of the expense of new space ship content - many players are unhappy.
3 Incana works poorly and have limited functionality - almost all players are disappointed
4 Incarna offers micro transactions for vanity items but the price in real life currency are outrageous - almost all players are angry.
5 An internal document is released called "greed is good"(yes thats the real title) making the case for selling non cosmetic items - Almost all player are furious and many quit.
6 CCP is very afraid.

I suppose if one lived in a cave for their whole life, returning to the city would seem a truly magnificent experience. (No offence to you, just a metaphor)
But for those of us who always live in a city, the little irritations build up quickly and make us complain. Am I against the Aur store for non-cosmetic items? Yes. Am I against Aur in general? No, but the prices are so insanely high that I can't imagine the Aur store ever getting a significant number of consumers with these eye-gougingly high prices. Am I against WiS? No. Do I think WiS needs a hell of a lot more improvement before I like it? Yes.
I don't think that this update has been an inherently bad thing simply because of the content. But the whole CCP mindset of 'lets make way more money for way less content' is pretty offensive to me as a consumer. That's basically saying that they only view me as a cow in a milking machine. At least in other MMO's (WoW, STO, DDO, ect) the devs realize that the key term in microtransaction is the MICRO bit. Selling many things for small amounts of money. As it is, most of the stuff in the Aur store costs more than a full months subscription, and I think it's right for us to complain and point out that in the long run, it will be more profitable for more people to buy cheap items at the store, than to have a very small number do so while everyone else talks about how much of a scam the whole business is.

whats happening is that the 50 million dollar from subscriptions that we pay each year is not enough for CCP anymore, so they introduce the crappy game breaking and universally hated micro transactions, and no body trust them either to keep it to vanity items

Yes a bit like with PLEX, only this time you buy directly from CCP and not from other players. However CCP still has to do SP for AUR otherwise we can't buy a Titan pilot like we can do with PLEX to ISK and buy them from teh bazaar ... that won't do at all!

Yes..true... But..plex needs to be sold at the market...to get the isk for something you want... ..etc..etc
In a nutshell.. the core currency important in eve is ISK not aurum, not $ not plex... You can get isk by earning it ingame, or if you dont have time you can buy plex and earn it passively inside game, by selling plex.
But if ISK is rendered obsolete by MT in favour of $$$/AUR ... The game will become "pay to win"...and you will not be able to compete inside the game with those richer in RL... ...and games serve a purpose to have fun and "escape" from RL for a hour or two right ?

Get it in your skull that macro-economic non-vanity-items out of thin air is different than paying the subscription for some other player and getting this stuff in exchange from those.
Eve is about pvp and a player driven market.
Guess which part you'll kill first and which part will follow.

Regardless if this is fake/leaked a or not, this is how corporations operates. Trying to increase their income streams. CCP is just getting in touch with the established consumerism paradigm that has rampaged out of proportions the last last two decades. Internet and cell phones is well established consumer tools.
Basically psychology warfare to try to instill wants into the masses. Gamers are very conducive to this with the mmo game play style that already hinges on intermittent reinforcement schedules.
CCP is clearly looking after business models where monetizing is at the forefront and streamlining the game play after different modes of MT and designing excuses for players to buy pixels, e-peen and stats.
This of course will take focus and resources of the product itself, as well as create a lot of different side effects.

The market is Eve. I find it hard to believe they would replace or undermine the ISK market - that's equivalent to just removing ISK directly from player wallets and would spell the end of the game. Do you really think CCP want to kill their own game.

Since you live in a wormhole I assume that you do a fair amount of sleeper salvage and at least some production. At least some CCP devs seem to have no problem with selling whatever they can through the Nub Store. So imagine you spend all this time producing your goods only to find CCP selling something even better. Then these people who didn't even participate in the EVE market come into your wormhole with their overpowered ships and blast you to hell because you didn't want to spend real money to upgrade your ship.
Many find it slightly irritating to say the least.
