Just canceled my subscriptions on all three five-years-old accounts.
For me it's not about the megamicrotransactions, although that's pants-on-head.
For me, it's about yet another "expansion" that reduced my spaceships-game functionality, rather than expanding it.
I stopped believing CCP would iterate on the beloved old content long ago. But now I've also stopped hoping.
Thanks for all the fish. ------------------ Ironfleet.com |

See last page for response by a GM to a player's petition (basically working as intended). No reason given for faction towers not dropping and no response from ccp.
Damn is that why they took engine trails out as well? wonder how much they'll charge to get them back? lol

Originally by: Midnight Hope I'm not sure I fully understand what all the outrage is if "microtransactions" have been with us for a long time now.
Bear with me for a bit. The way I understand microtrnsactions is "dollars for game items". According to CCP's ideas, we would be able to buy a faction carrier using RL money... or trained skills... or standings.
Well, we can do that already through PLEX. I buy PLEX using RL money, sell it for isk and then with that isk I buy a fully specced carrier V toon and with the spare change I go and buy a faction fitted Archon for him. We've been able to do this for a while. I bet more than one alliance buy their officer fittings for the Alliance Tournament through PLEX.
So maybe the issue is just the prices? If they chage $80 for a vanity item, how much will they charge me for an Archon? $500?
I think the "microtransactions for vanity items only" battle was lost when they introduced PLEX.
Your basic misunderstanding here is that anything that is bought with PLEX->isk comes from a player, supporting the player economy. That PLEX then eventually goes to keep another player in the game.
Directly spawned ships for Aurum (and that's what they're talking about, at the very least for some months - the process to trade a ship for the skinned version isn't working) bypasses the player economy, avoids logistics, and damages the game.
Ammo and ships for Aurum make tactics, particularly covops tactics, a vastly different thing.
Paying for standings will have all sorts of interesting unintended results, few positive.

Eve Customers will flex a little, they have, they accepted vanity items in the NEX store, they accepted the PLEX, but game changing MT items, they won't budge on most likely. CCP has a plan, they are executing on it, doesn't matter how far customers flex a little. CCP doesn't care, it is their time table and their demise.
No sense in fighting what is already comming, let em screw it up, it's just a game for us, it is a job for them, which is now at greater risk, we have no risk to take. Let em screw themselves.
I have no problem with this at all, really, I have 110 days remaining, I just hope CCP don't go bankrupt between now and 110 days time, after that, I don't care if they get layoffs. Not my problem really.
I plan to have fun all the way out, if that fun means laughing at CCP and their employees, Fine by me, Just another form of fun.
No sense in being miserable over it, it's not worth it, and neither are CCP.
When the rats trolls leave the game, that is a time to worry, really, it is.
TODO:
1) Play Eve 2) Watch CCP's demise - IN PROGRESS 3) Watch real train wreck to compare with item 2) 4) if no train wreck available, perhaps a ship sinking to compare witn item 2)

What I would like is a very clear; "No we will not now and not ever sell any item for RL cash that will give an ingame advantage over other players". And the pledge will have to come from somebody at board level like Hilmar for it to still have any credibility to the player base at this point I think.
They will not say it. Mark my words.
What they might say is: "No we will not (for now) sell any item for RL cash that will give an ingame advantage over other players."

Will you at CCP promise that any "micro-transaction" plans will be permanently shelved regarding any transactions that would give players an in-game advantage or advancement such as standing, ammo, ships, skillpoint boosts etc?
The answer to that question first and foremost determines whether I stay playing eve or not.
You did say you'd answer questions today. Thanks.
The real question is, if CCP promised, would you believe them?
I was a FW nut when it was released. That expansion brought me back to eve.
All they said was "ITS GOING TO GET BETTER!" "WE WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THIS!"
FLAT OUT LIES
They have to work to gain my trust back. I take nothing at face value anymore.

Edited by: Pierced Brosmen on 24/06/2011 16:11:23 I remember back in october, when T'amber resigned from his alternate position at the CSM and sold his corp, character and stuff in a protest against microtransactions in EVE.
Back then I felt that he was just overreacting. I was sad to see him go as I loved his SOE events, but kinda thought that this was a bit of a brutal reaction to something that wasn't even confirmed...
Besides... Microtransactions for vanity items wouldn't be a big deal... they are MICROtransactions after all...
Well, now we're here, in the GD MegaThread and I'm sitting here thinking. "T'amber, if you still follow the forums... Forgive me for thinking you were being silly, and that I didn't log into the forums to support you back then"

Originally by: Tippia You no longer have the confidence of the community. You have managed to contradict and suppress yourself into a position of zero trustworthiness. This is not something you can ôPRö yourselves out of ù it requires a drastic change in organisational culture (good luck), a drastic change in communications strategy (good luck), and, yes, quite possibly killing some of your darlings (tough luck).
This.
Originally by: Trebor Daehdoow Well, given that most of the current threadnaughts could probably have been largely avoided if CCP consulted CSM in advance
That assumes they actually react to your feedback. Also, as stated before, this is not a communications issue. It's the result of multiple bad strategic decisions. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

Eve, a game where you need to pay $30 a month because two accounts is necessary for half the game play. Then they introduced a cash shop where you need to spend an additional $30 a month to fly ships that dont explode when premium members look at you.

CCP must think of its employees as serfs and slaves if they make their opinions and ideas trade secrets.
Does CCP give out shares to their employees and if so how many? Can CCP employees actually pull off voting in bloc for a new board and CEO?

For those not familiar with the term:

Merriam-Webster FTW.
Poor choice of words CCP Pann. Sorry, not risking my main work computer, or any of my computers for that matter, to damaging coding anymore. Yes, your (CCP's) recurring subscription got me just before the whole CarbonUI fiasco. Now that CQ's here, coupled with a document where what should never even have been brought up as an idea is now supposed to be the new business model (MT for in-game WIN), the camel's back is broken.

But it said something about "missing pages". This peaked my interest so I downloaded it to compare to the first one. There are actually 20 pages in total in the original. It's pretty much the same thing, it appears the pages themselves were not edited, but pages were removed which dropped the context of the remaining pages. So while I'm still upset at those individuals my anger towards CCP as a whole has diminished.
The most notable line is:
DISCLAIMER: The views put forward in this magazine do not reflect general CCP company policies or decisions and are strictly individual opinions, written by CCPers or about CCPers who feel strongly about these issues. This is confidential internal information. Please respect that every company has its trade secrets and that you are privy to those at CCP.
Though it still upsets me that certain individuals at CCP think as outlined in the PDF, I do feel a little better with that simple paragraph. It definitely opens the door for them to fix it, where before I didn't see a chance in hell of that happening.
Compare them for yourself: EVENews24.com Version Original Version
The tldr difference is basically this is just asking people within CCP their opinions on the matter and doesn't actually represent any actual plans. I still want confirmation in writing and signed by the CEO himself before I believe anything that CCP says, but I'm a bit less ragequit-y now.
While this doesn't restore my trust/faith in CCP, it damages what little I had to start with in evenews24. Ok, well, I never actually trusted evenews24 at all, but now I definitely won't ever trust them :P
1. The "CCP employer" expressing his "opinion" is a lead game designer.
That has already removed visibility of faction standings so they can sell them. That has already moved fittings server side and limited you to 50 so they can sell you more.
Is he fired yet?

It's not a matter of representing official policy or not. The fact that it's on the table and communicated in a NEWSLETTER proves that it is indeed the route CCP is going. They nerfed fittings recently and in the newsletter they mention charging RL$ for more fittings. There are multiple posts describing this better than mine - so read moar.
Then why are there two sides to the debate in the newsletter then?... If it was cannon, why pray tell, are they still in discussion?

i wrote my opinion down here, and explained it. This is why I feel completely justified in leaving, CCP.
To say on one hand that microtransaction items would be vanity only, and then... to see an internal doc with the mere THOUGHT of going against that says you cannot (and should not) be trusted.
to get me back, you'll need to act on it. Show us the proof, give us SOLID REASONS to think that it was JUST an opinion piece, and not the idea of an actual direction.

My guess is that's standard boiler plate on all Dev documents if not corp wide. My tech firm clients use something very similar on everything including email.
