Edited by: Liberty Belle on 22/06/2011 02:41:35 I think that alot of folks oversold themselves on what this expansion would bring upon its first release. I don't want to be an apologist for CCP, but anyone who has been following the dev blogs and the feedback from participants over on Singularity/Duality should have been pretty certain of what to expect. Maybe there is blame to be shared across the board. I notice some performance decline in the new station environment, but overall I'm doing just fine with a 4 year old Athlon 64 with 2GB RAM and an Nvidia 9800 GT on medium-high settings. Loading time is within a few seconds, and walking around is pretty fluid. One thing thats really annoying and needs to be fixed in the new station environment is the lighting, particularly in the CQ. Its actually more than annoying, its horrible! Give us the ability to adjust lighting levels and/or lighting angles in our rooms to suit our tatses. Oh yeah, one last thing: Spinning ships, mofos!

We expected reasonable performance, to have bbetter performance than crisis 2 for example on same hardware. Graphics better than 2005 standards. That is not much to ask. We didn't got it.

It sucks big time to put time into a work and when it's finished to not receive the congratulations and the smiles you expected... It surely sucks, but players do have a point CCP.. It all sums up that incarna is kinda incomplete, looks a little useless... doesn't add much to the game. I kinda feel those ccp devs that gave their best to make something and they wanted to hear everyone cheering, and all they get is flames. Im surely excited about the potential of dust and if this step is necessary then ok i'll wait. I've been playing this game 7 years, i like it, so i'll wait.

I am running on a mac and the new captains quarters runs so slow. It takes forever to load up the station when docking, and then the entire station animation runs too slowly to use. Perhaps make the new animations and captains quarters optional? It takes so long to load (almost 2 minutes) it makes quick station stops for ammo or repairs impractical.
Anyone else experiencing very slow FPS in the new station environment?

Holy smoking hate thread Batman!!! The solution to all your problems is to move to WH space which CCP don't give a **** about so they leave (mostly) alone.
Would also get me more kills :)
PS: still can't refit my T3s at a POS, still waiting...

Edited by: Scarlet Enigma Kusoni on 22/06/2011 02:54:55 My feelings on this patch? Well I am a BROKE college student, and now my MMO (EVE) requires Shader Model 3, and I have a laptop with on-board graphics that don't support that.
So 4 YEARS of eve is down the tubes indefinitely.
I can hardly type I am so angry and upset at this. So....$% it. You forced many loyal players into retirement.
As much as I hate to say it.......back to WoW I guess.

My 0.2 isk.
Turrets look fantastic, best part of this update! Walking in Stations i'm really looking forward to, the CQ stuff is great and all works fine on my laptop.
But, someone fell asleep on the Aurum pricing, you added an extra 0 and now it all looks ridiculous, which is a shame as I was hoping to sink a PLEX into some gear but wont be now.
And someone sack that Zinfandel guy, his comments on the Help channel are making you look so damn awful CCP, it really isn't helping you.

Well i have to tell you that WOW graphics have also improved through the years... I really doubt it would still play on your on-board card. Their new water graphics are surely shader model 3.

please put in the option for the old station. i know you guys are working hard on dust 514, but i liked the way things were. the simplicity of the hangar made it feel temporary, as it was intended to be.
i fly spaceships. i want to see spaceships.
making the station needlessly complex is not the way to go. at the very least make it a button like the undock button to go into the incarna station. that makes sense.
and i know this is probably pointless to say, but please undo that terrible mistake you made with the maller/sacrilege/devoter. it looked great before, now it looks like a mistake. it looks caldari or minmatar now, not amarr.

First time I post.
This patch blows. I can no longer watch a movie while playing eve (even with the CQ disabled), while I was being able to play a movie and still use my PC before the patch!
Undocking takes more (with CQ disabled).
The new icons are hard to distinguish and while in a fight, you can't tell who you're shooting at.
The disabled CQ leaves you with... nothing, the enabled CQ leaves you with nothing usable.
I don't know why after so much time we're able to walk around the station, but we still have to set the default orbit when we switch ships.
I hate it, I wanna play spaceships not house.

I must say, I actually do like the changes. Parts of walking in stations just feel really incomplete. There's a short freeze whenever I dock/undock that's a bit bothersome, but I'm sure that can be ironed out over time. When you fix the glitches and start rolling out more content it should be golden.
But lets be honest here, the AUR store/cash shop/noble exchange is broken, and doesn't fit in with the economy whatsoever. The available items are really mundane (Except the quafe shirt, which you can't even buy). Everything looks like the same, silly, generic crap that you can already access through normal character creation. It's entirely bland. There's nothing edgy, nothing spicy, nothing formal, nothing ... actually, there's nothing whatsoever. All the clothing looks the same. Walmart has more variety and at a quarter the real-world price.
I seriously don't mind the prices being high. What I do mind is there being nothing cool whatsoever to buy. I remember when carbon was introduced, and the first screenshots of "Ambulation" came out. There were latex pilotsuits, dresses, skirts, tights, etc. Heck, armor might be cool. Or accessories. One screenshot features a girl in a bright blue shirt with pink hair. I see nothing that stands out that much. And heck, give us some outfits that show a little skin. Eve isn't rated E.
The second biggest issue is that these items are destroyable, and non-replicable. I think the easiest thing to do would be to reduce the prices dramatically, and change the current items (and the items that have already been sold) into limited 5-run BPCS of these items. Many players are interested in the world of clothing retail, and wouldn't mind bringing it to EVE. While Incarna is a great way for you to make money, the easiest way to make money is by giving players what they want.
The new turrets are nothing short of awesome. I just hope that one day the same can be done for missiles. They added mount points for tractor beams and salvagers; I can't see missiles being that much harder.
And even though it doesn't belong here, I must insist, please, please, please hurry up and fix pirate implants. Them suddenly disappearing was too much of a scare.

In my 2.5 years of playing eve this is the worst patch I have seen.
GIVE US an option to totally remove the new captains quarters.
I wonder how much money and time was put into making this rubbish.
How about fixing game-play first.
The new item icons are hard to identify.
The only thing i like about this parch is the new ship skin and the turret animations.

Edited by: Alice Katsuko on 22/06/2011 03:36:13 Using the couch when the character is standing behind it looks awful. The character literally bounces over the couch like a tin soldier and snaps into a sitting position. Was it too difficult to make a proper animation, or did the QA folk simply not bother to test that part of CQ, just like they apparently didn't bother to test the latest patch on Macs?
The entire CQ environment is a huge resource hog which puts significant stress on all systems, including systems which can run the in-space portion of the game at moderate-high settings without much trouble. There is no reason my GPU should spike to above 70C in CQ while staring at a wall with all settings but shaders turned all the way down, when it almost never goes above 60C with most settings maxed out while running anomalies. If you cant/won't optimize, then at least keep CQ optional permanently.
The lighting is still awful, and makes the character look bad, on top of giving everything a waxy, fake feel. Whoever did the lighting badly needs a crash course in interior design and decoration.
The interactive object system is truly awful. The random menu trees that pop up when sitting on the couch or moving the mouse about are annoying. So is the inability to remove focus from an interactable object. There's also no reason a character should be forced to walk up to an object in order to interact with it. This removes functionality, and adds jack **** to the game.
The control scheme is better than it was during alpha testing, but still could use significant improvement. At the very least, consider adding "walk to" functionality so that we can select an object and have the character automatically walk to it.
Overall, the graphics are pretty, but the shiny factor quickly wore off. I now have CQ disabled simply because it increases loading time and puts greater stress the system and doesn't actually add anything to the game.

What have you been doing for the 3 years since you developed this prototype? It looks pretty much like a carbon copy of what you have now in production minus some shortcuts to fitting screen, PI, etc.
Im really puzzled by your development time, you blow so much smoke up your arse about how great and innovative you are so hopefully the further updates to Incarna will start to justify these claims.
Good luck.

Ok, I was reading this thread before I actually patched my game. I was getting angry preemptively, but now that I've tried it, I got this to say:
My PC specs are disgusting. Im running a Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz, with 1GB of RAM, and a geforce GT 240.
Im running the game on high settings and in the CQs the game is smooth as a baby's skin. Only the shadow quality setting is disabled.
So far, except for the ridiculous prices on the shop, and the slightly longer station loading time, Incarna is looking alright. Even the ship in the hangar is alot bigger than it was in the test server. It looks more imposing now.
I lost ship spinning, which I liked, but sitting on my sofa checking the news on the big screen is cool too.
Just please, fix the clothing prices. 1.5 billion ISK for a monocle, really? Not that I want a monocle, but the prices are crazy for all clothing items. And if you dont fix it, hey, at least they will provide an obvious "kill me" sign for pirates to follow, Im sure.

Really liking the concept of Incarna, its potential to change the social and immersive aspects of the game are huge and am happy to accept your approach of introducing in baby steps.
But I want to add my +1s to the following things that really MUST be added/fixed to bring back playability.
1. We need to stay in our ships when we dock. As far as PVP goes this can't change. It's common for fleet members to leave on a CTA or roam with a missing mod, or need to change their setup en route to a destination. Being able to buy stuff in transit, divert away from fleet, dock, fit, undock and catch up with fleet is a fundamental requirement. Adding technical barriers to the efficiency of this operation is not good.
2. It's not enough to have an option to turn Incarna off even though I'm sure we appreciate that setting. I want to use Incarna and I'm really looking forward to using it beyond CQ but I also need the fast refit / ship change option. There needs to be a disembark option and if we don't disembark then we don't get hit with the performance requirements of Incarna. Dock/refit/undock should be as fast as it was pre-Incarna as long as we don't disembark.
3. I need to be able drag and drop a ship from the hangar window to somewhere on the screen in order to change ship. For example, Simply dragging a ship icon outside of the hangar window should cause that ship to be active. When out of my ship I want firstly to be able to see what ship I will undock with no matter where I am in the station so that I can hit the undock button and know what I'll be in when I enter space. I can do this now by opening the fitting tool but it would nice if there was an icon on the neocom.
4. Need to be able to have separate graphics settings for in station and in space. This should cover both quality vs performance settings as well as moving the centre of the view.
It's a shame that all the stupid emo raging that's going on is detracting from the indisputable fact that the above is really going to kill playability.
Love your work guys, keep it up. But please remember that the player base really need these issues to be addressed.

Edited by: Mdih Lihu on 22/06/2011 04:07:43 PLEASE return the old ship spinning hangar and add a button just above undock to leave the pod. CQ makes my graphics card fan go mental, so I'd like the option to jump in and out of it as I please. Why the picture of the door? Why not just leave the old hangar?
CQ doesn't really add anything to the game at the moment (I understand its a framework to build on) could have used some more useful things like the agent finder to give it more initial purpose. After 5 minutes of walking around I just disabled it, longer load times and making my GPU run hotter and louder for no reason? Pass thanks.
8 Items in Noble store that are insanely priced and only visible to you anyway? Who in their right mind would buy these things? Strikes me as something you could have left out until a later stage of Incarna when people are mingling together, and started with a lot more variety and reasonable prices. Micro transactions work in other games because people go "Oh hey that looks cool, $1? Whats a dollar.. I'll get it.. oh and hey that is cool too, whats another dollar?" The crazy price of these makes people question "what am I really getting for my money? oh right, some virtual pants.. pass" The time spent implementing this incomplete and pointless Noble store stuff could have been used on something more useful to the solo CQ 'game play'
I don't really know what I expected from this expansion, but it feels like a lot of hype without much purpose at the moment.
RESTORE THE OLD HANGAR WITH THE OPTION TO UN EGG LIKE YOU TOLD US YOU WOULD DO ALL ALONG.

First of all, thank you for the good communication and quick response on the Mac autopatch issue. When I saw it was broken, I didn't expect a fix so quickly.
As for the patch itself. I wasn't excited about it, but I was willing to give CQ an honest shake. After hearing some of the designers and devs talk about it during the AT, I was actually looking forward to it. What we got didn't do it for me. Not only does it take a long time to load, it adversely affects client performance even when not in a station. My system runs about 10 degrees F hotter after the patch.
As far as the content itself goes, yes being able to walk around is neat. But the controls are terrible. You should be able to lock the camera behind your avatar. Turning left or right should be relative to the camera, not the avatar himself. For features in the CQ, by and large they're redundant. The avatar walks slowly enough that it's annoying to navigate to the furniture that provides a function when there's already a button for it. Moving the smaller ships closer to the balcony screws with perspective, so my frigate doesn't look that much smaller than my freighter.
I would really really really like to be able to turn CQ off. I miss being able to open my cargo by double clicking anywhere on the hangar window. I think this is a neat first step towards expanding the Eve universe, and I'm excited about where this is going, but for right now we've got a bloated client with poor performance and a hard to use/slow to use CQ interface and no real payoff for it. If I could roll back to Incursion I would, but I'll welcome WIS when there's more I can do with it.
PS: new turrets are neat, and I really like the new Maller model

I understand CCP wants to attract Sims kids to play EVE, but they should allow us to have the option not to. I mean don't even think of removing the option "Load Station Environment" The whole Incarna idea is useless to real EVE players, and creates FPS issues that we don't want.
Reenable ship change with drag & drop
Allow us to view current ship in use together with the wall (which I don't mind seeing as background) when station environment is disabled, and easily open again cargohold.
Undocking camera should revert back to what it was before... I don't want to check the station when undocking and sightseeing but what is ahead waiting for me
Real changes like new icons/turrets/ship designs was good, although I find them a bit dark and unclear.
