Everyone knew going into this match that Hydra's guy's had won, they took first and second. The amount of planning and strategizing to ensure both of their teams had the best chance of making it to the final match was awesome.
At any point during the tournament, either Hydra or OUTBREAK could have been knocked out. I really can't believe that they bought EVERY match, they got to the final on their own accord, and grats to them. And better still, they gave us a wonderful slugging match that proved OUTBREAK was the winner in combat, but they conceded that Hydra got them there, so Hydra gets to take the grand prize.
Good show all around, and to those looking at it's face value, congrats, you're all acting like shallow WoW players. It's all in your head. You're living a lie. There is nothing money can't buy. |

If you're crying about how it went, you need to find yourself some good friends who will put you before anything, even internet spaceship tournaments for fictional money, then maybe you'll understand why the finals happened the way they did.

A final should be about SOMEthing, not being a waste of time even more boring then the 5th rehearsal of the Bold and the Beautiful. With RZR/OB match at least it was quick and to counter CO2 metagamers, but the finals? Imagine AC Milan and Inter Milan giving a performance like this in UEFA Champions League. They'd get lynched by the public and rightfully so

It wasn't that boring ... just some pilots having a lot of fun. This was a setup? Who cares - it's just another spacefight. This was some final - I had a great time laughing about their approach.

Yup even if it's completely destroying the only event in eve that could have push eve forward in term of new player...
And maybe in the ends players will follow your "wise" advice and eve will be all about metagamming no more space shooting, only people that talk to each other try to outsmart opponent by showing how much they have sacrificed their life to be there and outsmart the crying one.
Honor and joke put aside and from a new player point of view (yeah we need fresh blood) this isn't going to be good for ccp.
Regarding the AT results, like i care, the only results is that i wont take time to watch tournament final next year.

Edited by: Terianna Eri on 19/06/2011 22:36:21 This "fight" was about as much fun to watch as a decent fight interrupted by supercapital hotdrops is to play in.
And I think it's telling that people who like the first have no problem with the second.
What a pathetic end to an otherwise great tournament.
P.S. I stuck around for another hour after the semifinals for this? ________________

Imagine if at the world cup soccer finals, both teams came on to the field and started playing catch with the ball and occasionally kicked it, then pulled the goalies and starting shooting from mid-field at the goals for laughs.
I do not think soccer fans would be pleased.
This is how EVE players feel now...at least the ones that watched the Tourney. Right now I can hear big allainces brokering to split into smaller alliances just to field ABCDEF and G teams to get them in there and manipulate the points and brackets so that at least one of them gets into the final. Lock it down NOW!Any alliance not made by yesterday cannot compete now...but that doesn't prevent pilots from moving.
As much as people(from big 0.0 alliances, btw)on the commentary team said 'this is the way EVE is', that doesn't mean the Tournament has to be that way. Think of a way to fix it. Perhaps prefit ships, if you win one year you cannot play next year(pilots *OR* corps *OR* Alliance), or make it that wins not points determine who advances, I don't care. The amount of time I cleared to watch the matches now seems utterly wasted if the final was the end result, time I will not waste next year until changes are made.
VERY disappointed.

The last fight was boring, but anyone complaining about metagaming obviously has never seen an alliance tournament before. The amount of corruption that is part and parcel with all nine of the alliance tournaments is astounding. I'm really suprised this is new to people. Its EVE where wheeling and dealing makes you famous. GHSC, Tyrrax Thorrk, BoB, Goons, PL and now Hydra are just top names in this game of espionage.

I understand the fact that they completely ignored the finals afterwards. There was not much to say I guess, since there were no actual fight taking place. It was a disappointing end to an otherwise (mostly) good tourney with a different winner for a change. I only wish they'd at least have put on a decent show, since they in essence had nothing to lose from it. Two identical teams duking it out just to see who would win, or something along those lines. Good job on getting two teams through to the finals, no matter how much I wish it wasn't so.

But it IS the way Eve is, if the whole tournament was nothing but pure all-out brawling then people new to the game would think they could just jump into the game and start blowing stuff up. This match, and the tournament as a whole, showed new players it's not all about shooting the other guy, there's friendships, rivalries, politics and a lot more happening that we can't see that are more likely to be important than 'who has the bigger guns'.
The final match, although slow and boring, does broadcast the signal of "in Eve you don't just shoot people, but you have can have great friends that will work with you and be amazingly generous to each other no matter what the odds."
You can't say the tournament demonstrates the complexity of eve just by having people shoot each other, you have to have the whole sandbox experience in it as much as you can, otherwise it's not an Eve tournament, it's a bunch of spaceships shooting each other.

If they're going to fight, then at least put some effort in. Let the match determine the winner, even if they split the prize, which I'm 100% certain they did. CCP's putting up prizes for predicting the winners of these matches, which makes it to easy to just tell all the Hydra guys to get in on the goods, and post for Hydra Reloaded to win. Looks like someone else did, but the potential is there for this kind of thing to extend outside the game.
The final match was so rigged I'd call 1/10 for ultra bad fail trolling. First Hydra Fields 3 Faction BS, no flagship, and a mixed assortment of support, Outbreak fields the Minni selection, and begins to dominate, then throws it in Hydra's favor and they start playing duck, duck, goose around the field while letting the last Vindicator take down the rest of Outbreaks fleet. That's not even counting that they were shooting and RR members of their own and opposing fleets respectively.
It was pathetic. The worst fight in Alliance tournament history by my estimation, and I don't have to have seen most of them to know that.
