Again, the upgrades are NOT all free, new items will be placed on a new market using a new currency that for the most part can only be bought with real money... That is NOT free...
Well, I doubt very much whether those items will be critical to your ability to play the game or, for that matter, give anybody an advantage (ok, so a funky new hair style may distract your PvP opponent), so I don't see how this makes the patch NOT free. Nobody's forcing you to buy the stuf, which is cosmetic anyway, and it's not as if the whole market is being switched over to the new economy ...
True enough... But by that logic you would be willing to pay for graphics updates, I mean, they're only cosmetic, right...? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

Someone mentioned a casino earlier. Is there going to be casinos in the stations later on? It would be pretty cool if there was gambling mini-games, like a slot machine you can walk up to.

Gambling in stations has been spoken of during interviews with CCP.. Just nothing concrete yet.

W/O looking at your specific system, it's hard to say, but if your pc was bought in the last year or two your probably good on at least med to med-high settings, possibly even high as long as you're not using shared memory resources. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

But the upgrades ARE free in R/L money....
Whatever CCP decide to do ingame bears no relation to what you actually pay for your EVE subscription. You wanna trade or us R/L money ingame ? Your problem...
The point was.. upgrades to the game are FREE...

As long as whatever is being charged for is optional and does not give someone an advantage in gameplay then I have no problem with it so if shiny graphics comes at a price but has no impact on my ability to actually play the game then, sure, charge for it.

I ran a test recently and the one thing that confused me is that it seemed to have run BETTER on older hardware than it does on new. Ran tests from multiple machines.. The link below is to the lower end pc results. Hardware about 4 years old.
Test on duality, FRAPS footage - Includes docking to time it, and walking from ship platform to the inner quarters.
1920x1080 with all graphics options Max'ed out. AA+HDR enabled. Sound & Music also recorded for testing. Specs: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 CPU on Vista x64 OS 4GB RAM NVIDIA GTX260 Video card

-1 it's thinking like this that killed Final Fantasy online for me, "who cares if it looks like crap as long as they can play it...?". I totally agree with Fang. et al...
You should not be able to PAY for something that affects your player, or how good it makes you ingame.
You want to pay more for better visuals or more 'goodies' on screen.. feel free.
CCP should not make it where players can pay to be 'better'.... that's not in the spirit of the game..

Then the players pay. By your argument, no-one should ever have to pay for a new graphics card then ...

Its still like an hour and a half or something when you take into account the most recent extended downtime message.

That's a pretty sweet set-up for an older piece of hardware, the GTX260 is a high-end GPU...
Are your newer computers using on-board cards with shared resources? It's the only reason I can think of why the old would out-perform the new... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |
