If I use a browser to GET the REST API..
Is that considered an UNLICENSED Application?
I can just perform a GET with the full encoded URL. Store the URL as bookmarks, and then apply a CSS style sheet :)
I can even parse the XML emitted from Internet Explorer / Firefox etc... and then use that as Input to something else.

Im wondering about this too. If someone distributes an app and that app querries the API from the client who owns the account I dont think CCP can do anything about it.
Wherever you went - Here you are.

Hmmm.... This sounds like a MUCH more valid proposal. I'd say the question comes from how the data is used. If someone just passes around said CSS Style sheet, then they certainly could NOT demand a license. Interesting thinking.

Yeah but the license is unclear, should I try to get a non-commerical license per Browser TAB or just one?

Edited by: Sciencegeek deathdealer on 16/06/2011 23:23:14 If no single source was the distributor, or if the project was open source, then it would be simply impractical from a legal perspective to demand a license. This is assuming that no party received compensation in the form of IRL currency. This should include if an application was made for personal use only. They simply could not keep track of the applications. I don't think CCP could demand you license either browser, because the data for the browser is public. It would be the same as saying you had to have a license to copy the data exported from the market, and reorganize it in excel.

The intention is to call a public URL that sits internet facing.
So, again, the question is, do we register an Internet browser?

What the heck does the "REST" API do anyways?

It is a URL you perform a GET/POST on, like surfing a web page. then it responds with XML formatted replies.
such as your account info , market info and so on.

Please define "application".
I just Donated to Firefox, that application (Firefox) I use to HTTP GET EVE API URL's, then I apply a style sheet to make it nice and easy to read.
Firefox should get a COMMERCIAL license :)

Sounds like you're trying to be obnoxious, Miilla. Try not to **** off CCP by circumventing their new policies.
I dunno if it's possible, but CCP might just end up taking away the API thingy.
(I'm not a really knowledgeable techie in this regard, so I probably don't understand what's going on)

Sure is this a unlicensed application. It is a pretty simple app. But it is still an "(web)app", AND it is NOT the browser that is the app, its your BOOKMARKs, your CSS, your Webapp. Neither IE or Firefox will use the eve api out of the box, you have to initiate a connection. Your whole question is dumb.

Yeah, and I used visual studio to write script which use http get for eve api urls, so Microsoft should get a commercial license too. False logic mate, and you do it on purpose because you do not like the answers you already came up yourself. Its not the Mozilla foundation that is implementing eve api calls into their browser, its you using the framework of the browser offers to use the eve api.
