For once, the help channel is fun without ISD. I think the longest time I've seen an ISD chatting in the help channel in the last month was for about 20 seconds.
For once, the bird is the word can go unpunished. Asking about the best system to ninja salvage in does not get muted. Even fishanus goes virtually unnoticed.
I'm not being sarcastic, this is hilarious, and I greatly appreciate it.

Why would you get muted for asking about a valid career path in EVE. Do they mute Piracy and Scaming questions as well, is it only for like missions and Mining?

I volunteered for ISD some 4-5 months ago. They never responded.

They seem to thiink we get paid to "help". I myself don't mind helping where I can but it sucks to get warned as soon as you say something (anything) else.
What does the older player get from help chat? A good read some laughs and some conversation in a semi busy chat.
What does the new player get out of help chat? Loads of help and tips all day every day.
So we both get something out of chat and that's how it works. Start muting the older players (not the trolls) and soon the isd can do the helping alone. They need to relax a bit to be honest. Questions get answered anyway if you're polite..smack or not.

Back when I was a new pod pilot, we didn't have or need no stinkin' help channel. Actually, I think we had one, but it was so unhelpful I wound up joining a crappy corp just to find out what I needed to know to not die in a huge fire every time I targeted something.

2-3 years ago an ISD in Rookie chat was having a power trip (remember these people are NOT employees of CCP. They are just VOLUNTEERS).
They muted me for 2-3 days without cause. I sent the entire transcript, that included other players in chat in WTF mode, through the website upload petition system.
A GM replied back that I was right and they shouldn't have done that and they would talk to that ISD. What an ahole they were.

No you're quite serious, I can tell considering you logged onto the fourms to put a reply to leave a post in a serious internet spaceship game. Trust me I can tell because the lettering is very pixelated and I have seen quite alot of seriousness in my time.

I got muted for a week for asking if anyone knew a good system to ninja salvage in when I was starting out. Its stuff like this thats why I'm glad ISD are scarce in help chat these days...

If you read the thread you would see it is the OP that is discussing the gags, not me. Apparently people are gagged for asking how to scam or where is the best system to ninja salvage in. Would you not consider this to be legitimate discussion seeing as it involves perfectly legal gameplay mechanics?

Scamming is part of the game, the only place it is not allowed is in the help channels. The help channels are not the place for this form of game play as it doesn't actually contribute to the channel.
As for the ninja salvaging and what not as far as a help channel topic it's really not a topic suitable to the channel.
Basically neither of the topics are suitable for discussion for the channel.

If someone is asking a question, legitamately, how is it not suitable? I can understand not allowing topics that are bad, like exploits, but genuine game mechanics? This game is getting more fluffy by the day.

As far as the ninja salvaging goes, asking how itÆs done and what is needed to do it is fine, as yes those are valid questions. Going further then that isn't up to the ISD to answer. Also it can lead to a downward spiral of false truths as we have found. People also give false information on where to go. And as such we avoid that, and avoid this topic. The help channel is supposed to be a place where people can come for honest, trustworthy answers. I'm not stating that everyone in EVE falls on the other side of this fence but more often than not we get people misleading others and this creates an atmosphere in the channel the just leads to a mess.
I encourage anyone to try and be 100% honest in their answers and help new players, also try to keep up with the pace of the help channel and Rookie Help Channel at the same time.
As well the question of a gag in any of the above is terribly vague it doesn't outline anything that took place before hand. For all I know the channel could be trolled before hand and a cover of a semi legitimate question in the form of troll gets asked to make them look innocent. Sorry, but trolling a channel is also not allowed. If you have any concerns you should also stop and read http://www.eveonline.com/pnp/chatrules.asp . As well read the Message of the Day (MOTD) in the help channel/ rookie help channel. You will find rules and helpful info there as well.

So you don't help people who want to learn to scam?
It can be really tricky to answer questions to how to spot a scam, or how to commit a specific scam without linking example contracts. Linking contracts in help is generally not allowed (not sure if it's in the motd) because otherwise people would be linking contracts pretending they're asking for help, but really just spamming their unhelpful spam. People don't often ask how to scam while I'm there, but if I were to see the question, I'd suggest the person googles it. They'll find more ideas for scams on 3rd party websites and forums, just like the best industrial guides and mission guides and loadouts are on 3rd party websites. In the case of wanting to know the best place to ninja salvage, I'd tell them to go where there are the most NPC kills, to find a mission hub. I give the same kind of advice to people wanting to know exactly what system to do missions in, or mine in, or trade in, or corp to join... tell them how to find something suitable for themselves.
My observation is that ISDs are usually really really lenient with the mutes and bans. They always give 3 warnings except in extreme cases. GMs on the other hand are a lot tougher.
