Sorta funny to see patriotism as an "insult" I granted blind patriotism is a bad thing, but then again anything taken to the extreme is.
However being patriotic isn't a bad thing to us.

America, overall, doesn't seem that patriotic. American patriotism as I've seen it usually comes up as a joke or in parodies (e.g. Team America). I don't see any Yakia Tovil-Tobas in the US.
The mere fact that the term "un-american" is used frequently and is taken seriously as an insult in the american society tell us much about american patriotism.
This.

In the Empyrean Age novel (I would also recommend Ruthless as someone in this thread pointed out), the shift from corporate plutocracy to a more "patriotic-capable" State is pretty well explained through the narrative of a blue-collar Caldarian named Tibus Heth and a mysterious other guy who is so mysterious he has a "The" in front of his/her/its name.
Hope that helps, The CCP Manifest

Americans are generally laid back on the whole patriotism, until someone messes with us. Then we go bat****. See the US standing around in WWII until Pearl Harbor, and look at the reaction we had to Sept. 11th.

I heard one of the prerequisites for that position is that you never grow up. Also to like beer.

CCP Manifest is right actually. Prior to Tibus Heth, there was only patriotism to the corporation one worked for. Heth united the corporations, and actually formed a "state" where before there was just financial alliances (and some kind of silly military).
Then the Caldari proudly took millions of people hostage. And now the role players spout crap about Gallente imperialism while they hold a gun to heads of countless Gallenteans on Caldari Prime.
If I cared about such things it would make me sick (in game)!
But I don't, so it's just funny

I desperately wanted a Battlestar Galactica jacket like Apollo in the television series, using brown house paint from the shed at home, I painted my denim jacket and used Araldite to attach brass door hinges as clasps. Feeling that it was an excellent representation and despite the oil based paint still being soaking wet, I wore it to school the next day. Unfortunately, the paint dried while I was sitting in Mrs Bowman's English class, securing me to the chair. After the school handyman cut me free, I was sent to the principal for damaging school property. My punishment was to sc**** wads of chewing gum off the bottom of every chair in the school after hours. It took several weeks and it was during this lonely time that I created my imaginary friend Mr Wrigley. During class, when the teacher was not looking, we would pass each other notes regarding the merits of disciplinary action and how one day we would own real Battlestar Galactica jackets.

America, overall, doesn't seem that patriotic [...] I don't see any Yakia Tovil-Tobas in the US.
That's because Ami "patriotism" as we usually see it is not patriotism, at all. It is nationalism, and/or statism. Not the same things!
Webster's defines patriotism as love of, and/or willingness to sacrifice for one's nation. By definition, this can only come from within, by individual choice.
What the Amis normally do with all their idiotic flag-worshipping and even more idiotic jingoism is dictated to them by the state, and re-enforced by social and/or more direct forms of...pressure...to conform.
I think the Yakia Tovil-Tobas of America exist, but they are, at best, unrecognised until after their sacrifices.
