It will be part of a release bundle. Sales will be high from an optica perspective.

Entirely dependent on promotion and aggressive marketing. The more money gets thrown into advertising and selling the product, the better it'll do. -

a release bundle? they didnt even get an applause... in fact no one there has even heard of EVE CCP or Dust 514...
i guess 20,000 sales in the first 5 weeks, and another 2000 over xmas holiday..
also, i'd bet a few mill that says they push the date back to 2013 or beyond.

This is essential. I think it will do about half of what Quake Wars: Enemy Territory did on consoles. So about 75k worldwide or thereabouts.

Bear in mind that Quake Wars had the Quake name in front of it that helped boost sales substantially.
e; misread, tired. If Sony pushes it heavily then yes I can see it doing about that. If Sony leave it to CCP then.. my original estimate is probably closer, but it's unlikely they would do that. I just don't see the majority of PS3 owners being interested in it. ----

The thing is that a game's success really is all about how aggressive the marketing is and how much the game is pushed into the public eye. Gears of War was a huge success not because it's inherently a good game (people can't tell that till after they've purchased and played, after all) but because it had that really eye-catching "mad world" trailer splashed all over the place for a while.
The number of people who got Fallout 3 is WAY larger than the number of people who'd previously heard of Fallout at all because it was on every bus stop, they took over all the ad space in Metro Central in Washington and more.
Modern Warfare 2? prime-time TV advert slots. Same goes for WoW.
the factor that makes the biggest difference in how well a game sells is how aware Joe Public is of it and how cool it's made to look. DUST could perform just as well as any of the above titles if it's unsubtly force-fed into the public eye via, say, billboards, prime-time TV ads, trailers in the cinema, five-second snippets at each end of the commercial breaks at a big sports game etc.
If people see that iconic Caldari armour staring at them as a full-size cardboard cutout in the window of their local GameStop, If the tagline "your next shot could topple an empire" is on the radio when they drive to work in the morning, and if "A Future Vision" is in the trailers before a big hollywood film, then it's inevitably going to sell better than if left exclusively in the hands of those who already know about EVE. -

You know, its actually quite sad watching people who apparently support CCP through EvE actually wishing CCP fails with Dust.

Edited by: Anonymous Lemming on 07/06/2011 02:01:28 oh please they will be lucky if they get enough players to cover the production cost. Only about 20% of eve players probably have PS3 and actually give a rats ass about the game. An unpublished, unknown developer of an original IP that 95% of console gamers never heard about. They will be lucky to break $600,000.
The only way to salvage this game from the shovelware bargin bin is to go all-in and market the **** out of it. Commercials, conventions, interviews, previews. Hype the **** out of it. But most indie devs fall flat on they're faces here so im not expecting much.
Millions of dollars the could of went towards something useful, like bringing back the old cyno effect.

...you REALLY think that "bringing back the old Cyno effect" would cost that much money?
You best be trolling.
For real though, the old cyno effect would just look stupid if it was re-introduced now. It's an eight-year-old effect from 2003 for crap's sake. Yes, it was cool at the time but you've got a really bad case of misty-eyed nostalgia there if you think it could be shoehorned back into EVE without looking silly. -

I think most don't want Dust to fail. I think most are pessimistic about Dust514's chances at success, and fear that the failure of D514 will drag CCP and Eve down with it. For instance, that's my particular view, and my two friends who were watching the Sony presentation with me, who are not Eve players, had the same exact initial response. 'So, wait, these console players can affect your MMO? THat's kinda cool but if it fails you guys are screwed!'" Direct quote that, and sums it up nicely.
Here's to hoping that us doubters have it wrong. Go CCP. Grab your vision and do the best you can. I guess, in the end, that's all we can do, and we just hope our best is enough.
