since the patch after the character selection, when the station loading bar is displayed it moves up to ~80% and then just locks the client.
Win7 64bit / Radeon 5850
i tried to change the graphic options, but with no success. i don't get into the station hangar.

When client is frozen memory consumption by this client is sky-rocketing (I've killed client which was using 1.6GB memory). After few times kill clients now I've logged successfully.

Same issue, client hangs at some point when loading station, or if I am not docked, loading character. Takes up 2 gigs of RAM and needs to be force quit. You can work around it by turning all your graphics down, especially HDR.
@Knopf I believe safe mode works because it turns all your graphics off. The update #1 seems to not be involved.
Windows 7 64-bit / GeForce GTX 275
PS. I think it's ironic that amid the very Blizzard-esque microtransaction announcements, they put out a very Blizzard-esque patch (i.e. huge and buggy). _____ Five card stud, nothing wild. And the sky's the limit... |

Exactly the same problem. Windows 7 64, radeon HD4600
Took me a while to get in by turning off anti aliasing.. seems to be random since that doesn't work anymore. Also turning all graphics down to min didn't work. Safe mode works though.

well, the culprit seems to be core_user_#######.dat
which really sucks. now all my settings are gone, and i took a long time to setup all those thing. gonna take me an hour or two to redo them now?
where the hell is my reimbursement for this?

I have the same problem on my desktop computer (Win7 64, ATI Rad HD 4350) But it works fine on my laptop (Win7 64, ATI MobRad HD 4250)
It really sucks because my laptop is way slower (used it to manage PI and such when away from home) I really don't feel like engaging any ship in PvP with it, really freeze me in station ! Do something !! ---

Here's a workaround that got me back into the capsule:
I was able to avoid getting stuck loading the station by going to the Settings Window->Display and Graphics tab and unchecking "resource cache enabled". I hope this works for anyone else having the same problem.
Now the long version:
I've had the same issue; I would get stuck while waiting to load the station and had to force close my client using the task manager. I went as far as leaving it "stuck" for 10 minutes and nothing happened. Yesterday, when it happened the first time, I logged on with my account on my wife's machine no problem. So, having concluded it was my client and not my account I jumped back to my machine and reset all the graphic settings and was able to fully log into the station. I then proceeded to turn graphic goodies back on (shadows, antialiasing, post processing, etc.) and everything seemed to work. (Astute readers will realize at this point I had not logged out and confirmed that I could log back in, and thus didn't even address the original problem getting the station to load.)
Today when I tried to log in, same problem; stuck loading. So I thought I'd do some actual trouble shooting and change one thing at a time, and through some bizarre bending of space-time and laws of Murphy the first thing I tried; unchecking "resource cache enabled" allowed me to fully load and return to my normal mucking about.
P.S. I knew Murphy would get his revenge, and it took him no time to do so when I realized the yields for Planet Interaction are broken. Why would I even take a moments pleasure in gettting the best of you Murphy?

Yup, had the same hang when I tried to log back in just now.
After a small amount of poking at it, the way I was able to avoid my client hanging was to login, then once in the character select screen, open the options window and enable then disable the "enable resource cache". THEN I was able to actually get past the loading bar staring at me.
This isn't the least annoying login process I've ever encountered, but it beats looking at the 80% bar I've seen too much of lately. Come to think of it, I'm just not that fond of the task manager either, and would like to see less of it as well.
At any rate, with all the other problems that cache elements seem to be a part of in the last patch, hopefully this issue will be addressed as well. I'll be putting in a proper bug report as soon as I take the time to read how to do it right. For now, I'm gonna opt for examining the insides of my eyelids.
Good luck all.

Strange thing for me is that I have 4 accounts 3 get stuck and 1 works. It's identical installation (hard linked via junction) and graphics settings are the same. Turning off resource cache did sadly nothing.
It is a client issue as I can log in all chars on one of my client "copies". But having identical settings on the others does not help at all.

Edited by: Seeker Of Amenti on 02/06/2011 07:41:50 I tried the above fix and while that worked I didn't like it.
So what I've done so far was to repair the client back to the 1.6 state and then NOT load/instal the Patch #2. Problem is solved for me. I can now log in on any of my accounts without any issues.

Do this from the character selection screen, since you obviously can't login.

Seems that there are several things wrong as it's almost like random things work for people. clearing cache did nothing for me.

After the 1.6, have been having the same issue. Client gets stuck at 80% of loading station/space environment. My investigations have lead me to the only working solution, what is resetting the settings.

make backups of you eve cache+settings folders delete both folders from the ccp/eve dir load eve and select a character, load to station quit eve, copy backups over to ccp/eve dir load eve
sometimes this works, sometimes you have to check/uncheck the 'resource cache enable' in display&graphics. it will work for 2 consecutive loads, then you must repeat the process.

None of these work-arounds have proven reliable. The only true solution I've found is clearing settings, and, well screw that waste of time.

Pretty much getting the same issue but I am running XP SP3, takes a while to log in and when I do the loading bar just freezes once you get past character selection.
Tried the work arounds above but can't seem able to log in, even tried to submit a petition but that even freezes? Checked my internet and any other page loads, even the Eve main site!
Not too sure what to do, anyone else on XP having issues aswell?

I just got contacted by CCP for more data on the bug so they are working on it.
During trying to get a mem dump for them I discovered one way to fix it. If you go to command line (cmd.exe) and then go to your eve folder and there type "eve.exe /minidump" it seems to enable the game to log in. After that first login there is no need to start it this way as it seems to work perfectly fine.
For some reason it worked differently if I added /minidump to the bookmark (freezes and does not produce the dump file) and starting it from command line (normal command line, no admin rights).

Hi,
i have the same problem since patch. freezes when entering the station. the following procedure worked two times in a row now:
* clearing the cache * after restart in char selection check resource cache, apply, uncheck resource cache, apply
after that i was able to login.
not sure if this was still a random success. resetting all settings worked too. i tried that when it happened the first time. but i wont do that again. its really annoying to completely re-setup the gui...
i tried some more combinations. repair did not help, changing graphics settings to all low and disable all features did not help.
running on win7 64bit, NVIDIA 465, fixed window.
fly save! TwoJohn |
