Edited by: The Cleansing on 31/05/2011 04:45:55 Never considered a hauling career before, is there much ISK to be made in that? Not hauling into 0.0 and stuff like that, although I don't see why not, but generally hauling contracts etc. Can it work, is there enough sand in the box for that kind of RP enterprise?

Yes... several corporations exist solely to do transport work. look up Red Frog Freight as a good example of one. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=763167 |

Hauling- The only profession where pretty much everyone can compete with you w/ minimal skill requirements and will frequently do so just in order to make some additional isk while doing their own profession. It needs a significant bump, and the courier missions l3 and above really should be freighter level or above w/o requiring lowsec/null sec. Courier contracts can make OK isk, but you'll find that even clients that you do regular good work for will still put their contracts public at cheap rates just because they know someone somewhere (usually a manufacturer/trader has the spare cargo and its free isk for them). I've made up to 100M isk in one evening hauling, and other nights over a few hours, I'll only make 10M or so. It depends. It would be more fun if it was easier to make into a group activity that corps could participate in, escorts, etc....but from what I can tell....that all left the game with the advent of jump gates/etc.

You can do it. I did. I joined Red Frog a few years ago. If you know how to maximize the use of a freighter and combine courier work with trading, its quite profitable. I eventually founded Black Frog and added losec/nosec hauling to Red Frog's services. That is quite profitable, though very dangerous (also more fun). |

Avoid doing any transport work for free, especially if its for an alliance that doesn't even know you exist. Negotiate ongoing rates based on each trip, like a trucker in real life. The more the carry or the more dangerous (low sec/null) the more it costs. If your going to do it for public work, be prepared in the event that you get scammed, ganked or otherwise disregarded. Transporting isn't really a profession unless your part of some giant organized group that specializes in that.

I don't do it for the profit of buy in one place and selling in another, I do it for industry. That being said when I see deals all the time where if I wanted to be a hauler for profit I could. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

Depending on where you want to settle yourself, you can or may not have any contracts around you. I tried it one night to sort of round my end of month if you want, and the most of the contracts were 10 or so jumps away from where I'm settled in with my corp and for mining, and doing 10jumps with nothing in your huge cargo is a lose of money, and all that transport, for me, wasn't profitable. So I guess if you feel nomad you can find good places with relatively big corps that makes a lot of contracts and grab them.

Agreed. They do need to buff lvl 4 courier missioning, or at the very least lvl 4 Storyline courier/trade missions, where you are made to use a Freighter in order to get the big ISK/implants.
