AUR cosmetics are consumable. Simple as that. Herpderp I bought some cool pants for the equivalent of 55 million ISK. Oh, I got podded? Well ****. Time to go buy another set. Wait, I'm a PVPer and I die regularly? I'd have to choose between the new items and implants? What, I chose implants and CCP got less monies as a direct result? Huh. When I die to actually playing the game, I have no intention of renewing my fabulous microtransaction jacket. I plan to deal with this by simply never touching the Aurum system. Not that it really matters. I'm rich and I don't pay actual money for my accounts, nor would I pay actual money for Aurum. At present, it is simply not worthy of my ISK, let alone my real money. When you can't get someone to spend ISK on your new currency you have big problems with implementation.
CCP, if they're cosmetics that don't affect gameplay, make them permanent. Your current model for these items is foolish and completely excludes an entire segment of players. Sure, 20 mil for a logo on a ship is cool when you expect to keep it more than a week, but for PVP I'd rather spend that on rigs.
In fact, the entire system is greedy and plain stupid. We already pay a monthly fee, and on top of that some sell PLEX for ISK. This isn't a free to play game, and I don't know where you got the idea that it was. That aside, your implementation is horrible and makes all Aurum purchases completely unjustifiable for half your community.
tl;dr: No consumable microtransaction items please. Rather implement ship paint jobs and clothing as "pay aurum to unlock, pay ISK to apply to ship / character. Lose ship or pod, have to pay ISK again for a new set of clothes / paint job." This way, the system makes sense to actually use for players that don't just trade, do industry, mission 24/7 in Motsu, or roll around highsec in 100-man wardec blobs. Did I forget to mention the part where it would provide an ISK sink? Read: Something the economy desperately needs? CCP, you've added faucet after faucet to the game. What was the last sink you put in? Sov bills? We need another one.

Actually I doubt it that you lose your clothes when podded. You're not wearing any clothes (well a kind of swimsuit) when floating around in your pod anyway.

I understand why they WANT a plex sink but not why they 'need' it? How does ccp working to removing plex help players other than making CCP's job easier in making plex more valuable in terms of isk so it is more competitive with RMT isk prices? Raising PLEX seems to further push players to say '**** it' I'd rather spend $35 to get my X hundreds of million isk than waste my time making it in game. Then you have people who make their isk in game and work for a plex instead of paying CCP directly that may not be able to afford new more 'valuable' plex so more plex sits on the market doesn't it?
The only way this can balance out is if plex for stuff gets put on steroids then spreads wider than the only ***** on a military base. Only if a majority of players have cause to turn plex into stuff and it becomes more valuable as 'stuff' than game time do plex sinks help remove plex. As there are options to keep playing, subscription, but to get stuff you either have to grind for isk then buy a plex someone else made(higher isk to plex ratio helps) OR make your own plex by paying CCP for it.
It seems to be CCP is a 'victim' of their own program, plex, they wanted to fight RMT AND capitalize on players willing to spend real $$ to get gold. Some players are all too happy to pay to get paid so they don't have to deal with bad gameplay to make isk.
I also see the too much isk issue as one CCP left alone for so long that it became a problem, from not balancing isk 'production' bounties/anomalies/moon goo and the rampant botting.

Because on average, there are a bit more PLEX created by people that want to buy ISK than PLEX that are used up by people applying them to extend account time. This leads to ever-slightly but constantly increasing stockpiles of PLEX, which is something CCP is trying to avoid like the plague, because it drives their accountants nuts. So they NEED a PLEX sink.
P.S. Ok, you could say that's still a "want" not a "need", but we'd be getting rather philosophical than anything else by that point. _

Then I still don't see how this can work unless plex for 'stuff' be it name changes, more remaps, blood line changes, race changes, ships, items, etc expands massively. Vanity items are going to be a small portion of plexes converted to get aurum on their own.
Of course if they make a full fledged second life in stations/planets it might grow enough players that primarily play as avatars to have an impact on the stockpiled plex.

They only need to get a small portion of the newly created PLEX converted to begin with to achieve "parity" between newly created ones vs destroyed ones, so they stop the stockpiles from growing, or at least noticeably slow down their accrual. Also, never underestimate the huge amounts of ISK that are sitting on accounts of people that have more than they could ever use, and this might give them a reason to spend some. _

so, don't buy anything, no one cares if you do or don't, it's entirely your own call.
as someone that loves to PvP, i sure won't be wasting money on ships that I consider lost each time I undock but on my carebear chars, I would happily pay for logos/paintjobs, etc, as they won't give me an advantage in combat but will look kewl as i zip zip zoom zoom around.

It has been stated by devs that items you are wearing (clothes, implants, etc) when podded are lost, just like the body that was wearing them.

Occam's razor. CCP can just place NPC buy orders on the market for PLEX. No need to create a new elaborate player run PLEX-sink.

LOL will we be able to loot someone's clothes?
And will be be able to scan what someone has in the suitcase so we can suicide gank their ships if they have some fancy outfits?
Anyway if this is actually the case it's just a matter of changing clothes before you undock, like putting on your working clothes. Only annoyance is that you have to change your portrait every time you put on new socks or earrings, which really should change.
