I have been in this Fallout 3 fever specially after I rediscovered the use of mods for it. Best damn game ever, also with mods more in tune with what I envisioned out of the sequel for the awesome Fallout 1 and 2. Finished the game a long time ago and bought the goty pack when it was like 15$ on steam, forgot about it untill I saw someone's video of the latest mods for it...
During my journeys into forums and pages of Fallout 3 fans, I discovered this neat video. It's well made and shows a man making Vacuum tubes, anyone here old enough to remember those? My encounter with them was when I was a child and damaged my grandfather's radio :P. After seeing tv in a vac****tube TV and hearing radio when I was young on those old things and meeting my old town's frail last vacuum tube replacement guy and technician before his death, I must say I quite enjoyed the look and feel of those old devices.
Here's the video and nvm the rambling, it's a guy that makes vacuum tubes by himself and some very neat tools. An art in patience and handcrafting skills. Now I want a functional vacuum tube radio

When I do a case mod using a vintage computer housing what I like to do is pull the tube out, press the front down directly into a mold, and create a clear resin replica of it for mounting back into the housing. Then just stick and LCD behind it. You get the same look, better picture quality, and it weighs 1/10th as much.

...and none of that pesky X-ray radiation if a tube decides it's about time to go faulty _

that was truly a thing of beauty. I'd love to learn to do something like that, but alas... my coffee habit will prevent me from ever doing those fiddly bits

When I was a kid I collected stereo equipment from jumble sales. I had to ask dad to bring the stuff back. Once I got a 1950's valve radio and record player that had a huge wooden case styled like a bedroom chest of draws. Apart from a few record players that had good needles all the stereo equipment I got had poor sound quality.
My mum spent a lot of money on a stereo system that had Arcam Alpha amplifier stages. Classical music sounded very good but modern music sounded flat and tiny. I have a Technics SA-DA10 stereo receiver that has excellent sound quality from its mosfet amplifier chip. But like Technics receivers it runs very hot and now the overload safety turn off activates before i can set the volume to very loud. Well perhaps just as well as I live in a semi detached house.
