Edited by: Kalle Demos on 22/05/2011 10:17:17 Volcano erupting in Iceland? Nahh there is obviously more to this story, obviously, potential reasons which will all be believed within a week.
1. "The illuminati is behind it" 2. "God is behind it" 3. "Blizzard are behind it" 4. "Obama is behind it" 5. "A giant eyeball / triangle are behind it" 6. "The Middle East are behind it" 7. "CCP are behind it, so they can delay Incarna even more"
Which one will go mainstream, just throw a virgin in the volcano and fix it!
E- A lot of bald people in this thread, c/d? .

Amazing pic plucked out of this blogs comments.
This scared me but I know Icelanders can deal. They are the most resourceful, sturdy, and prepared people, I've ever met.

New footage. Now with lightning.
Has any geologist or 'volcanologist' commented on why volcanos shoot lightning now? I don't remember them always doing that.

Its static. The particals rub against each other and lightning happens. Every eruption like this one will cause this to happen.

I think it's to do with global warming and climate change.
That's the reason we keep getting earthquakes, tsunamis and volcano erruptions isn't it? Oh...wait a minute...

This case is not really the best example of what i was talking about.
Recently there's been many which are clearly shooting enormous amounts of lightning out with whatever they're erupting. I remember the first one was treated as some kind of rare thing scientists were delighted to see, but now it's become quite common. Pretty sure i'd remember it if things like this, or this, were always happening.

If it's always happened all the time, and is caused by common static, why are there no pictures like that from 10-20 years ago?

Poor quality of cameras and a lack of trying. The first true scientific recording of an eruption was by pliny the younger in 79 AD and he reported great amounts of lightning around a great shaft of smoke in the shape of a local tree.
