To the shock of many for the 1,658,235,342,432 day in a row, the world has once again failed to end. Many people are both surprised and disappointed.
The last major event that threatened the existence of the earth was 4.45 billion years ago, when a large planet size body called Theia impacted the earth causing large portions of it to be ejected into space.
"It's just so surprising I thought the end would come today" said an anonymous passerby. "but I'm sure it will end tomorrow" and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Actually the world almost ended during the Permian / Triassic periods as 85% of all life on the planet was wiped out.
Then there was the ordivician extinction
Then the cretacious.

The Wi-Fi might be good but you have to spend your days prostrating for a bunch of false gods, totally not worth free Wi-Fi. Not when I can get it from my rich but completely ignorant neighbours for free

'Countdown to back-pedalling'
An atheist and entrepreneur from New Hampshire, Bart Centre, is enjoying a boost in business for Eternal Earth-bound Pets, which he set up to look after the pets of those who believe they will be raptured.
He has more than 250 clients who are paying up to $135 (ú83) to have their pets picked up and cared for after the rapture.
They would be disappointed twice, he told the Wall Street Journal. "Once because they weren't raptured and again because I don't do refunds."

Well the day is young.
And yes there has been at least 6 mass extinctions in years past. I dont know how we classify the world ending, but those seem pretty good.

EDIT: Double quote. Also to add that the cost is low enough to not warrant many lawyers attention if people are gullible enough to pay for this service

That best part is that whatever contract that is entered into would end as a non-binding contract as there will be no one left to fullfill the contract or to enforce its fullfillment in case of a rapture. The lawyers would have fun with this. I bet at least someone would argue that at the point of any clients death that they become responsible for the pet even if a rapture is not the cause of death. I do not feel like checking the guys site out to see what the terms of sevice are actually, or if there are in fact any on the site. But who knows, I may be bored and interested enough to follow the site come Sunday

Yeah I was thinking a heck of alot bigger than that. Like near total planet destruction.
If Thea hit, 100% of species would go extinct. Heck, there could have been a complex civilization on earth and we'd never know it, post impact.
We're not talking some wimpy 500km object. We're talking something the size of Mars and further more why do i even need a sig? |

We've had some very close calls.
I think we only have about 500million years left though before plate tectonics stop, we lose our magnetic field, and the solar wind blasts away the atmosphere.

Life on earth could end any second without any prior warning. For example by a gamma-ray burst. The energy of that travels very close to light speed, we'd not see it coming before it hits us. Here some text from wikipedia:
"A gamma-ray burst in the Milky Way, if close enough to Earth and beamed towards it, could have significant effects on the biosphere. The absorption of radiation in the atmosphere would cause photodissociation of nitrogen, generating nitric oxide that would act as a catalyst to destroy ozone.[75] According to a 2004 study, a GRB at a distance of about a kiloparsec (approximately 3,000 light-years) could destroy up to half of Earth's ozone layer; the direct UV irradiation from the burst combined with additional solar UV radiation passing through the diminished ozone layer could then have potentially significant impacts on the food chain and potentially trigger a mass extinction.[2][76] "
Make it 1k light years and we're totlly and instantly toast.

Then there was the ordovician extinction
Then the cretaceous.
The holocene is far, far scarier.
edit: Because it's the one happening right now.

Local time atm in the Christmas island clock is something like 13:40 so at the time of posting there are still several hours of Saturday left for some people. And you know what they say. Don't count your chickens to early there is still time.

Well Harold Camping said
Originally by: "Harold Camping" When we get to May 21 on the calendar in any city or country in the world, and the clock says about - this is based on other verses in the Bible - when the clock says about 6 p.m., there's going to be this tremendous earthquake that's going to make the last earthquake in Japan seem like nothing in comparison. And the whole world will be alerted that Judgment Day has begun. And then it will follow the sun around for 24 hours. As each area of the world gets to that point of 6 p.m. on May 21, then it will happen there, and until it happens, the rest of the world will be standing far off and witnessing the horrible thing that is happening
Let's see... Australian corps are still posting kills... and are generally not drowning in magma Chinese Bots are still macro mining.... and are not falling into fissures in the earth. The Russian alliances are still macro ratting... and are not covering tables because in Soviet Russia tables hide under YOU!
There for I conclude that Mr. Harold Camping is about as full of **** as he initially appeared.
and further more why do i even need a sig? |
