So I ordered my second monitor, apparently having only one monitor is so 2008, so I had to catch up with the times.
Anyway, I am trying to track my package and find this on UPS, WTF is on the tennis racket? Is that poop?

I think it's obviously the Sansha supercarrier

Now that he mentioned it, I got curious again... I saw that plastic and/or rubber doodad on several tennis rackets, but I have no idea what purpose they're supposed to serve, much less what the hell they're called (if they even have a specific name). Taking a few wild guesses, they might reduce vibration of the "strings" in the lower (near the handle) area, or maybe reduce chance of wear on them, or create a slightly harder middle section, or act as some sort of counterbalance weight, or... aww, hell if I know. _

It's a string dampener and they are there to reduce the vibration of the strings. It affects the sound and feel of the hit when you strike the ball. Basicly it's put there for the comfort of the user.

It actually makes a huge difference for me, at least. For a while I had a racket where the strings tended to scoot apart on each hit, and the dampener would fly out. The subsequent hits all produced a different sound, and actually jarred my arm more. Though, not all look like a piece of poop. Mine was a nice rubber 'P' character, as it was a Prince racket. -------------------

Even the untrained ear would be able to tell a difference between a racket with and without a dampner. It is not a necessary addition to a racket but it widely accepted for those that have a little too much spring in their racket.
