I am looking for a bit of advice. I am currently a Gallente pilot (I know..) and I have just finished my T2 tank training. I am not sure what to do next. Would I see more benefit from getting T2 sentry drones or going for the guns?
I primarily use a Domi for mission running (4s), but recently bought a Mega just to change things up. I really want to start doing Incursions soon, just for a change.
Any recommendations what to do next? I will eventually crosstrain to Minmatar, but I think I may hold out and finish Gallente first...not sure.
For reference, here is my eveboard link: http://eveboard.com/pilot/Rysis_Vyvorant
Thanks

I've been playing over 2 years now, and I cannot use any large T2 weapons. My PvE battleship has a rack of large faction weapons instead.
I personally find T2 medium weapons far superior for the training time vs. usefulness, as there are more cruisers and battlecruisers in EVE than battleships, and medium hulls are always useful in PvP.
After that, my next highest skill investment is in drones, which are useful on any size of hull. I also pilot a carrier, and sentry drones are extremely useful when my fighters are getting picked-on too much.
I think if I did a lot of PvP in a battleship large T2 weapons would be higher on my training priority list, but otherwise I'd train sentry and heavy drones first.

For PvE I wouldn't bother going for the large T2 Hybrids if you plan on cross training Minmatar in the nearby future. The same thing could be said for sentries really.
If you're going to keep using your Dominix, then sure, train both of those things. T2 Sentries first. It's not a bad ship at all and cheap. If you just want to finish it to be able to move on and train something else, something better ... You might just do it right away.
If you'll cross train Minmatar for PvE you'll probably end up in a Machariel. So train gunnery support skills, perhaps Gallente Battleship V and anything else that will make your Dominix perform better, but will also transfer over to that next ship.

I was thinking primarily to do both T2 sentries and guns just to finish off my mission running ship. I would be looking at the Mach for PVE uses, but have a long way to save for one. I could just get the sentries and then move over to the Mach. I did Worlds Collide yesterday and it was pretty damn slow going against the angels in my Domi.

Edited by: Seraph Castillon on 05/05/2011 11:49:58 I looked at your skills. I hadn't done that before. You've probably just made it into a battleship and it'll be about a year before you can say you more or less "finished one off". The reason you're having trouble in the harder missions is not just because you're missing T2 Sentries or guns. You're missing some very basic skills.
Also you're skills won't allow you to use an optimal fitting on your Dominix (it requires Advanced Weapon Upgrades) and you might not even be using the best fit your skills do allow (stop by the ships and modules forum).
Regardless of whether you'll be cross training or not get the following skills, get them soon:
Motion Prediction IV Rapid Firing IV Sharpshooter IV Surgical Strike IV Trajectory Analysis IV Gallente Battleship IV
Then for the Dominix, in this order:
1) T2 sentries 2) Drone Interfacing V 3) Advanced Weapon Upgrades IV 4) T2 railguns 5) Gunnery support skills to V 6) Finish drone skills 7) Gallente Battleship V
Or for the Machariel:
1) Get some basic shield tanking skills 2) Minmater Battleship IV 3) T2 autocannons 4) Gunnery support skills to V 5) If you're committed, both battleship skills to V
Support skills improve your performance alot. Do not forget them and think it's all in the items you are able to use. Also I find that money is largely irrelevant when compared to time spend training in this game. At least at the beginning. Make a choice now, and don't make it based on how much one ship will cost. Make it keeping in mind that the ship you choose will be your income source for some time AND that the skills you train for this ship will also unlock others. What do you want to fly for PvP? Do you want to PvP? What besides mission running do you want to do in this game? What ships do you want to use for it? Again: maxing out the skills for a PvE battleship takes well over a year. So try and pick one that requires skills that'll be usefull to other things you'll be doing.

Dont bother with T2 sentries or T2 large hybrid atm to be honest . What you really need after viewing your skillsheets is good support skills, thats the foundation for flying correctly any ships, in pve or pvp.
Go for energy/mechanics/gunnery supports/electronics/nav essential skills to 5

Don't listen to the haters. T2 sentries are a massive upgrade for a gallente bs/ishtar pilot. T2 large rails/blasters are another question though. If you're sticking it out with gallente, yes, but if you have cross training plans they are the weakest weapon system and you may want to leave that for a later date and see if they get any patch love.

As a gallente specialist, with t2 blasters, rails, most all their t2 ships and caps... Do yourself a favor, and get some experience with the variety of ships available before you get t2 ships or guns. Modules, tank, fine, t2-it-up.
I took the same advice in the thread here. Got near-perfect support skills, which I do not regret at all. To any new player, I would suggest for their *first char only*: Train anything that strikes your fancy for 1 week. Go wild, switch gears, find a niche. Train every core support skill to 3 or 4. Train every frigate and frigate weapon to 4. Train every cruiser (and battlecruisers) and cruiser weapon to 3. Train every other available support skill to 4. THEN pick a frigate and weapon system to train to V Train covert ops, interceptors, and assault frigs. Pick a cruiser and weapon system to take to V By now, you can pve in any bc, scout, tackle, and do lol dps in any available cheap ship, and be pretty good in a cruiser, and know whether battleships, t3s, or t2s are next.
But don't don't don't get battleships and large weapons to V before you do the above steps for your first char.

The true Dominix PvE aficionado fills his highs with tractor beams and salvagers and lets the drones do the work while he makes himself another mojito. Slower, but more relaxing -- embrace your inner Yogi, spend some extra 'floating in space' time to save some training time.
And if he actually goes for turrets, best to add Controlled bursts IV onto that list, you learn to appreciate it when you get into t2 blasters with void on your Brutix or, god help you, your thorax/diemos. ---

He already had Controlled Burst IV.
Also I'm not for the whole AFK mission thing. Why spend 45 minutes "AFK'ing" a mission, only to find out you lost half your drones to a trigger you forgot to hit and/or having to micromanage to make it through anyway, when you could have been in and out in 15-20min?

Thanks for the input. I am leaning towards what Seraph has said follow the Gallente route a bit more.
Motriek: I appreciate what you have said, but I do not want to spend ages crosstraining everything before moving on. I will most likely stay Gallente for a while then crosstrain afterward.
I still think Gallente boats are a bit of a mess, but I fitted a Brutix last night for some level 3s and really enjoyed it. Sure, it is not as good as a Myr, but I think it is more fun.
Cheers
