If you had to pick a Gallente BS for running missions with that wasn't a Dominix or Macherial which one would you choose?
Dominix - Yawn Macherial - Not a pirate and its too foreign in the game play department.
This leaves:
Megathron Megathron Navy Vindicator Kronos
I've assembled a fit for each, but they pretty much turn out all the same, save for the Kronos which can salvage too. If there any obvious reasons to pick something other than the Kronos for running PvE missions?

If you know to ask that question, the answer should be just as obvious.

Uhh yeah, the machariel because it's pretty ****ing ace. It's not "too foreign" in the gameplay department. You just lower transversal and shoot **** at practically any range, exactly how you'd be doing it with any of the gun gallente BS (i.e. all of them besides the dominix).

If you don't want to be bored, running missions is not for you. Go find an incursion or jump some sleepers if you want pvp that's not primarily a cure for insomnia. ---

It is missioning and it's going to be a bit boring. Just to make sure you're aware, it is very possible to have a full rack of 425s along with tracking and damage mods and an adequate shield tank on a domi (navy or regular).

The Kronos seems like a good choice. The tractor+salvager combo will give you some more return on the naturally longer time you're going to spend in the mission. :)

I have flown them all, extensively. Within the parameters of what you are going for, there is no reason to fly the Megathron at all. It has no real advantages over any of the other three.
The Megathron Navy Issue and the Kronos do have similar numbers, with the Kronos having a better tank and gun DPS (the Navy Issue has a nicer drone bay).
I flew the Megathron Navy issue for years until I got a Kronos. Now I exclusively fly the Kronos. The reasons:
1. Tractor Beams 2. Ammo Usage - faction ammo costs are much lower
My long term training plan does involve training for the Vindicator, because it offers a nice DPS increase and another hull to play around with. I have a Rattlesnake and a Dominix Navy Issue as well, but I prefer my Kronos to them for most missions. I often use the Rattlesnake or Navy Dominix when I don't plan to salvage and I am dual or triple boxing accounts. --- This doesn't even seem to be a regular case of rats fleeing the sinking ship. Seems more like the rats are on fire, the ship is on fire, and the sea is full of drunk Russians. - Jacob Etienne |

You list Machariel, but leave out Rattlesnake. Any particular reason?

Simple oversight. In a way they both share the same problem I have with them. They are using a weapon system and protection method I know very little about.

I'd pick the Rattler
Mainly because I don't run missions but exploration sites and plexes.
My Gila, however, does them better than my Rattlesnake so...I need to fix that. -------------------------------------------------- I am the Love Angel, Wedding Peach, and I am very displeased by your lack of love! |

The only ship in this thread Id even fly is the Vindy. Id go with Mini big ships even before the VIndy.

Vindicator - shield tank , mwd and neutron 2s.
It's close to the machariel actually, the one difference being that machariel has 70km range and vindi 15 ... oh and 500 m/s MWD'ed speed. And vindi has more problems being cap stable so you lose some tank.
Killing is good though - just fly into range , release drones and blow up the bigger ships in the blop , then fly to the other blop...
Hmm I wonder if it will be better with armor tank...

I have some heathen friends who love their vindicators and still fly them sometimes (but are waiting for blaster changes and are buying lots of vindis so that they can have 'fun' once the gates open). . .

Totally matching my experience when flying a Kronos.
Actually it is the Kronos in my opinion, cheap to fit so you don't end up as a suicide victim, high lock and combat range, utility slots for drone links and a halve way ok damage projection with rails(use 2 TCs, a 90% web and the tracking imp).
Or just invest 2-3 weeks worth of SP and get a Mach. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

Edited by: Cedric Allrian on 02/05/2011 09:18:23 I had the same problem, i just didnt want to fly the regular domnix anymore and was pure gallente.
I EFTed a few setups or Vindicator, Navy Mega, Navy Dominix,..
Then i bought the navy dominix (with the shield setup). It really looked good with the the Tank and the huge DPS. Although the difference to the regular dominix was not that big, i decided to buy it because I just wanted to buy a fancy ship. ... i have to say...that was a fail purchase. Funny but not as smooth as the next ship.
Then i bought the Kronos and i am perferctly fine with it. Reason: As already said, the Ammo consumtion and the tractors (even after the nerf it is still a lot of isk to salvage/loot). The tank and the capacitor are awesome too. And it is convenient to not be totally dependant on drones, although i have perfect drone skills. With 2 tracking comps it is even possible to fly most missions with neutron blasters. (Take a capbooster setup (no cap rechargers). You rarely need cap charges anyway)
The vindicator: I just havent found a fitting which i would like for missioning.
But every now and then i take the regular dominix. it is just amazing with high skills. And look at the prize, but dont look at itself^^

As far as pve fittings go for the mega/navy/vindi/kronos line of ships they all are pretty much the same with 3-4 slots for tanking, cap rech/booster and tracking comps in the mids and rails in the highs.
The biggest differences between the ships you'll notice is compared to the stock megathron the navy will be tankier and easier to fit with low skills due to the extra low slot and extra grid/cpu from being faction. The Vindicator tank wise will be either a little behind the megathron and take more skills to fly than a stock mega. However it will provide the highest dps of a hybrid battleship. Also with a shiny ship you tend to want to fit it with shiny stuff so price will generally be higher to fit. The Kronos will provide you with the marauder salvage/tractors, and a better tank with just slightly less dps than the vindi. However this ship will require the most skills to use.
For the Kronos and Vindi, it's possible to also shield tank them and fit more gank or even blasters though depends on the mission whether or not it's more effective usually.
Overall any of the variants of the mega will perform fine in a mission, and the higher price tagged ships will provide you with more advantages. Whether the vindi or the kronos works better depends on missioning style. If you salvage/loot in a single ship/account you will probably find the Kronos works out best. If you're blitzing, or having friends and can go lighter on the tank Vindi can tear through things like a beast.
