Hey Guys,
Been roaming in the Vagas and like wise fitted ships. I wondered if there there any good guides out there in regards to kiting? I have found tons of guides, but maybe there is one out there that eludes me.
Ive been trying to keep the enemy +20km away, but seem to get caught by them doing various 'tricks' to close the distance, Scram/Web'd and I soon die.
Should I be using any of the Orbit/Keep range buttons? Or just manually fly it.
What should I be looking for?
Watching there speeds?
What way they are pointing?
Should I have my camera on them or myself?
How do those Magical Vaga pilots in their amazing kill machines do it?
Is there a distance I should avoid? E.g. At 18km should be getting out be my first objective?
Would love to have the guidance of a Vagabond pro help me.

Edited by: Herrring on 27/04/2011 09:31:35 I personally dont have experience with vagas, but I have flown kiting slicers and nano canes.
You have to set your orbit and keep range at around 18-20 km
and depending on your target's speed and fits you can go in deeper inside just outside of the overheated web range for more dps.
However, one thing you have to careful about is when the target burns out while you are burning straight at them and suddenly turns back and have you in his scram, web range.
So keep a close eye on his velocity on your overview to monitor any abrupt changes in his velocity and over heat your point and mwd if needed.

I recommend keeping manual orbit.
Way that was shown to me is to keep the enemy and your ship inline on your screen and click left or right from the enemy. Keep moving your view so that he stays inline with you.
Depending on how close or far you click you keep a narrower or wider orbit. Try practicing on a roid field, keeping one roid in range, while avoiding others. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Good day, Raho Ure:
When I fly my Vagabond in combat, I have orbit set to 21,000 and keep at distance set to 100,000.
Those settings along with align et al, are just used to start off manual piloting.
If I'm solo, I typically try to stay beyond any overheated web/scram range based on the ship I'm fighting against. If I'm in a small gang, I still hang out in the 18km+ range until the target starts going into armor they cannot repair (or repair fast enough), and then I will get in closer to apply more damage faster.
The area I'm still learning is whether they are truly trying to get away when they burn from you, or are they preparing a sling shot once you give chase to grab you. I'm learning when in doubt, give them some rope. Worse case is they get away. Best case they either circle back and are in the fight, or you are fast enough to re-grab them.
BTW, when able know the celestials around where you are fighting... if you are at x, and align to y, will that take you away from, towards, parallel, etc. the target.
Thank you.

You need to pilot manually and have Radial Velocity shown on your overview. A positive radial vel means you and the enemy are coming closer togather. A negative means you are moving farther apart. This is important because you can see the change in radial vel long before it becomes visually apparent they are burning towards you. You want to keep radial vel as close to 0 as possible to kite somone. So when it goes positive fly away from them, when it goes negative fly towards them. And always be ready to switch your flight path on the fly.
