I am new to PI and am setting up my first network. I have read wayyyyy too many guides, so I know my way around. I know you should route you extractors through a spaceport for storage. HOWEVER, in order for it to be stored, do I need to make two separate routes, one from the extractor to the spaceport, and another from there to the factory, or will one from the extractor to the factory while passing through the spaceport do?
Thanks in advance.

You need to do a one way route, from the extractor to the space port, then to where ever you want to go from there. Just having a link pass by it going somewhere else will do nothing.

Edited by: Starke Mandalore on 20/04/2011 01:28:33 Many thanks. The route to the spaceport is now up and running. But sometimes(TM) it won't let me route supplies in there to the correct factory. I try and route it, it doesn't overload the link, I hit submit, and yet they are still labeled "Incoming." Any ideas?

Edited by: Mr Kidd on 20/04/2011 02:04:49 Maybe this might help:
Extractor --> Spaceport --> Basic Production --> Spaceport --> Advanced Production --> Spaceport
The idea here is from your extractor the resources go to Spaceport. Then you route those resources to a basic production facility. Then the produced goods get routed back to Spaceport. Then those produced goods get routed to advanced production facility. Then those adv. produced goods back to Spaceport.
The idea is to always have storage (in this case the spaceport) for your produced goods. Otherwise if you're directly linking extractor to production facilities any hiccup in your production will result in lost resources/goods down stream.
If this is basically what you're doing then there are a couple of reasons why you can't route.
1) Link capacity 2) The production facility you're trying to link to is not setup to receive the resources/goods. I.E. you just placed it but didn't set it to produce anything or you're trying to route the wrong resources/goods to it.

Well, as you probably know from reading the guides--but as there are many, it is easy to gloss over--you may not have the specific resource you wish to route sitting in storage. Wait until the extractor completes one cycle, then you should have the materials waiting and be able to route to your desired destination.

Thanks for the help all, I was just being an idiot. I was treating the routes like the actual materials - I was trying to change the incoming links denoting materials coming from the extractors to outgoing links headed to the processors. I thought that the stuff was already in my hanger and sitting there, so I tried to route it. And every time I tried to route the incoming route, it created a "copy" of that route, which I thought were more materials piling up. All set, and thanks again!
