Sadness, grief, and change. Some capsuleers are deeply sad. Met one tonight. I flipped his can. He didn't kill me cuz he thought I was a fly; heard that before. But, as we talked and another pilot joined the conversation, the grief came out. A lost friend, a shared experience no longer; the drowning of sorrows... Space can be very lonely. I gave him a small gift because he seemed to need someone giving to him as well as taking from him. The other pilot gave the gift of a recommended book. When we are pushed, really pushed, people are more important than ISK. I challenge the Capsuleers who read this tonight to find someone to give something to here in New Eden. Make the gift a sacrifice, see the good it does to you.

Just a little friction. The Benefactor who is willing to form the corp to recruit, train, and deploy workers like me, has ideas of his own. He wants to choose a name for the Corp that I am decidedly uncomfortable with. I want qualifications that he sees as tedious and cumbersome. We are not at each other's throats and I think we will reach compromise. I think, because we are both a bit stubborn, that the compromise will leave us both a bit happy and not so happy. Who knows whether this will go anywhere in the end anyway. Time will tell. In the mean time, If you think you might be even remotely interested in this kind of work, just reply to this thread. Peace.

I am Dawn Kee****. Piekura is all I have ever known.
I have nothing. I have never had anything.
I feel that flying the vast cold expanses of Piekura, assisting Ston in his search, I may find that I am searching for something myself.
The only rule is, it begins.

Concession and Compromise We have taken the plunge and formed the corporation, or Edaine has, I should say. I have had to make two significant compromises with Edaine to make it happen. He has had to make one very big compromise. Edaine has agreed to let me issue what he calls a cumbersome, tedious instruction and requirement manual. He is worried no one will want to join. I have had to compromise on the name of the corporation which is very embarassing. Edaine says, and I quote, "You need to be willing to take your own medicine, Ston." He says that it will be a test of my humility and that I will have to practice what I preach if people react to the corp name by getting on my case. The second compromise I cannot talk about here because the rules of this venue forbid it. It will be obvious in the corp description. Edaine says that it is the only way to get people to sign on. Maybe he is right. Complaints out of the way... A huge thanks to Edaine Numenor. He will be bankrolling all corporation expenses, rental fees, etc. all out of his personal resources. This is a non-profit corp. Watch for us in the corporate recruitment and here for the publication of the training manual.

Well there it is. Thanks again to Edaine. He is paying office rent out of his own pocket. Thats a chunk. He is also doing recruiting and helping me evaluate applicants. I appreciate it. Don't expect Edaine to act like a disciple/worker. He isn't. He doesn't qualify. Important: The Instruction manual is contained in the corporate bulletins. If you want to apply read these. I have yet to apply but will be doing so shortly. I will be treated more or less like any disciple with some additional duites. Be patient, we are all rookies at this.

Giving, Receiving, and Happiness. I saw a remarkable thing tonight. Generosity became contagious. A capsuleer gave a valuable item to another and spread happiness. Giver and receiver experience palpitable gladness. Generosity always has a beginning. In time, we hopefully learn to give of non-material things and derive a deeper joy, but for many capsuleers, giving stuff has to be the first step. Lets hope it continues to deeper levels. Thanks again for all the help, insight, and wisdom shared by all the pilots of Piekura this evening. I appreciate you. I am really pooped.

Edited by: Ston Momaki on 06/05/2011 10:35:34 Much to report
We interrupted planned violence in Piekura two nights ago much to the angst of those who planned it. It is not brave for immortals to fight just for the sake of it. Rather bravery comes with the self-control of restraint. We value life so little when we think that it can never be destroyed, so we treat violence as a cavalier sport of sorts. One of our functions as disciples of Ston is to "absorb" violence that would have been intended for others. The group of pilots who intededto fight each others, eventually left the system. "Not here, not now" we said.
Welcome Manwe Todaki to the Disciples of Ston. Manwe does not have impeccable qualifications and was almost rejected as a disciples, but when we heard the story of his journey to Piekura, we changed our mind. While maintaining a 0.00 security status, he does have five violent incident records on his file. Anyway... Manwe had to traverse 22 systems on the shortest route to get here and half way, he was brutally attacked and pod killed by the dread outlaw Demtri Smakinoff. Waking up in his medical clone, he had to begin the joury all over and take a longer one of over 30 systems to arrive safely in Piekura. This would make most quite angry, but Manwe's response was noble in the very essence of the Disciples. I quote, "Lets forgive the cowardly act of violence committed by Demtri Smakinoff and not treat him like a coward but as a person worthy of forgiveness as all of us would want to be treated." This humbled me. No spite. Manwe show the self-control need to be an effective worker in the cause. He went on to say that he wants to teach his people that bravery consists not in the easy yielding to the impulse of violence but in the hard decision to restrain for the same. In respect of that, we will seek a place in Minmatar space for Manwe to do his work. Speaking of that, we welcome Dawn Kee**** as a Disciple of Ston. Dawn has impeccable qualifications for the work and a skill set that I think will work well in the flexibility required in this work. Dawn will be filling in for me in Piekura, while I help to train in Manwe for his work in Minmatar space. Already, Dawn has shown a great compassion for both the regulars and passing visitors of Piekura. For the next two or three days, Dawn will be the Disciple of Ston "stealing" from the good folks of Piekura.
Finally, an insightful pilot pointed out one of the continuing quandaries of our work. We generally reprocess all weapons and sell the minerals. We give away the ISK as part of our work to try and promote generosity in EVE. However, the quandary is whether or not we should just store the materials so that they can no longer be used for violence. I have pondered this and decided that each Disciple must exercise his or her own conscience and values on the matter. Part of me says that if we can help others be generous, it will go much further than the tiny bit a material we remove from the production of weapons. Our material impact is minute. Our interpersonal impact might be a little more significant. Each disciple is autonomous enough to make decision for themselves.
Finally, Finally, I had to to trust another capsuleer last night when I ran into a large cache of weapons. My small cargo bay could not handle the cache and I did not want to risk them falling into violent hands. I receive a promise from a fellow pilot that he haul them away and reprocess them. Naive of me? Perhaps...but I have faith that he kept his word. Not everyone is a liar all the time. I have found nobility and value in this universe as well as violence and greed.

Manwe Todako will be cutting his teeth in the Abudban system. This system has a good regular capsuleer population to steal from and a lot of belts, including an ice field. We hope that it will be a good place to start and maybe stay. Good luck Manwe. Don't forget, Manwe to either start a thread here or write in this one to log your work. Much thanks to Dawn Kee who will fill in for me while I help Manwe get started. I hope those in Piekura will be gracious to her as she steals from you. My only concern is a Gallente working in Caldari space may generate some "interesting" interactions. I'll be back to Piekura in a few days. Peace.

Manwe is doing an incredible job and just on his first day. I think his log here on the IGS is gonna be really interesting reading. Another day of training tomorrow, and then he is on his own here in Abudban. Manwe, you can't forget to unfit your weapons after you are destroyed and get a new ship. You did deactivate, though; good work.

You might have some problems in Adudban. Especially for someone 'cutting their teeth', as it were. It's still highsec, to be sure, but cans are secure. Does Manwe have the appropriate skills (and time?) to break into a can before flipping it? Also be aware that more and more people are getting tired of flippers and have decided that they'd rather mine more securely with an Orca. I know I have. Adudban is also a route between lowsec and Rens. You definitely won't be the only pirate out there. So...good luck. You'll need it.

It is good to be back in Piekura. I am confident that Manwe will do well in Abudban. His interactions alreayd show great promise. I look forward to hearing about how Dawn K... did here in Piekura the last couple days.
I hope that others will join the work of the Disciples. The needs in this galaxy are great and there are many systems in need of our work
We especially need now a representative from among the Amarr. We have a Gallente (Dawn) and Minmatar (Manwe) and Cladari (Ston). Now who will answer the call from among the Amarr?

Unsetled capsuleers and violence: THE KILL BOARD Returning to Piekura, I discovered several new and unframiliar pilots active in the system and at least two showed impulsive, violent tendencies. In converation with one who killed me, the kill board was brought us. Lets think about this for a moment. The kill board... a record keeping device designed to celebrate senseless violence. Furthermore, it is a device to promote competition among pilots to see who can commit the most senseless violence. The KILLBOARD! Just think about it. What have we become. I see that Piekura continues to need the presence of the disciples. Dawn worked hard in my absence. I am concerned that some pilots may have been verbally unkind to her. She is there to help you, pilots. Be nice!

The subtle justifications for excess. I had an extended conversation with a very intelligent and mentally quick pilot last night. I had to conced the point that economic systems can and do help ordinary people live, meet their needs, care for families, etc. The problom arose however in taking the model of healthy economy where trade and commerce are carried on to meet the true needs of citizens and applying that model to the sick greed and thrist for for violence of the capsuleers. The individual I spoke with argued hard that the capsuleers represent a healthy society with a healthy economy. Here we disagreed. Providing food, clothing, shelter, education and other essentials for a healthy and growing culture cannot be equated with the obsession with ISK to build up bigger and more treacherous weapons that are used to feed the greed and avarice of the minority of citizens in New Eden. Our true need for bread should not be equated with our false need for quafe. It is sad that the capsuleer thinks himself right and just in his endless persuit of wealth. He pats himself on the back thinking that he is feeding a "healthy" economy when all along he is really feeding an insatiable ego. I didn't do the best job convincing this pilot of these things. His intelligence and verbal wit stood in the way of his need for a reformed heart. It reminds me of the need for quick minds to join the Disciples and spread this work. Peace to you all.

Hey Ston, Ran into that exact argument today in Abudban. A guy tried to tell me that his kids would starve cuz I stole a few minerals from him. He left tht argument for last, of course. I gave him a million ISK and told him it was for the kids. busy day today

Tonight I encountered what could be described by the childhood addage, "Playground bully." Bullies tend to be people who are so bored, or shallow that they need to entertain themselves by pulling the wings off of butterflies or killing baby birds for fun. Unfortunately, such types can be the most difficult to reach. So engrained is the deception of power and the illusion of strength, they they are able to perpetuate their own social illness almost indefinitely. What a pitiable situation.
This particular individual had other like-minded friends to work with him. I find it interesting, what some consider entertaining. Since these individuals are regulars in Piekura, I anticipate more opportunities to interact with such behavior. I appreciate one pilot who had the grace to warn me. May peace abide with this person. These others will be a continued object of study in days to come. I believe that I will have more opportunity because they have expressed the assumption that I profit from the thefts I use to provoke these encounters. I beleive that I can recreate the same set of circumstances again. I will have to test this tomorrow.
I have encountered bravery since I began this study. I have found it in those with the wisdom of restraint and self-control. I have also encountered cowardice; most often in those who lack the power of self-control and seek to use violence to control others. Such is the case tonight.
I hope that there are other aspect to the characters I have encountered tonight; more noble aspect. We can always hope for that and try to draw it out. That is my task for days ahead. We shall see.

COMMUNITY TYPE CLASSIFICATIONS One of the things I regularly do is make reference to my jounaling in this venue when active in system. I have always though that certain individuals took a look at the entries but was never sure. Last night it was confirmed through two means. First a pilot quoted from my journal entry and second, I noted a direct response which you can see above. The Disciples are encouraged to provoke pilots to response through non-violent means in order to learn how the capsuleers function in their environment.
We have discovered communities based on several things, each more or less loosely connected. Some gather for conversation. Others gather for what they refer to as pilot vs pilot activity. Many gather for mining operations and the list goes on. I was impressed at the gathering of a community last night not for ISK. Last night was my first opportunity to see a community that was actually gathered out of principle. The Credo at the beginning of this log is "despise me and reveal yourself." Up to this point, I have worked hard with only marginal success.
Last night's journal entry was a risk that I usually ask other disciples not to take, so I hope they will excuse me for doing so. The risk paid off, however in the exposure of communications structure, shared opposition to a single entity (me), and coordinated effort against that entity, and strong feeling about the shared values of the group (see Bumnz entry above).
It raises a question for me. What would happen in New Eden if the same cohesion were to be exercised toward the simple betterment of others? What if groups were to band together not for mutual profit or mutual revenge, or even shared entertainment, but for the purpose of showing generosity or mercy? How might people be changed?

Awaiting the sanctions of my peers. Last night I broke the rules of the Disciples of Ston. I stepped out of line, because I thought I could get at a peice of knowledge about capsuleers, and I did. But, if I cannot keep my own rules and be accountable to others, then the Disciples mean nothing. One of the Disciples called me out on the issue. The CEO says that the other Disciples should decide what happens. So I wait. In the mean time, I was much more careful tonight. I was able to destroy weapons. Interesting followup: A while ago, I interupted a planned act of violence. I was told that they would kill me if I tried that again. Tonight I was killed by this group. I have also noted an increase of agression lately in Piekura, but there are those here that see the cycle of violence and recognise it for what it is, sad. Hold on to hope, those who seek the peace of Piekura. "Let us not become weary, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

This is an odd time for me.
I have been a disciple of Ston in name for less than a week but I have seen shifts in his own rationalization for what we do.
As he looks to his peers for punishment or censure for his insults towards a theft-target, I offer him none. I would not have taken his course of words but I do not fault him.
Ston now steals to prevent violence. I have no such aspirations.
I steal from you to explore your attachment to material things in eve. I steal your weapons, your rocks, your salvaged trash left to clumsily keep a container open.
I steal because I want to find out what loss does to you.
I invite you violence in return. It only hurts briefly and my clone is back in space in mere seconds. I am unattached to my many rookie ships and I fear not loss of skill, for I have none. None that eve can quanitfy anyway.
Ston is working through an internal crisis of his own right now. I respect him in that regard. Me, I am much more level in my intentions.
I am here to steal from you and to destroy what I take simply to cease its existence. Maybe I am the bully in Piekura after all. A bully who speaks in actions.

Dawn Aranu, you are a good Disciple of Ston and you truly "get it". I want to assure you that I still share your motivations that you expressed well in the above account. I shift from time to time in focus when I percieve the presence of certain personalities and tendencies around me. I am still very keen on coming between people and their acquistion of wealth. I completley agree that "loss" reveals so much about the heart.
However, lately, In Piekura, there has been significant hostility against me that seems to be connected with the taking of weapons and the confrontation of violence. I want to fully explore this for a while, at least, to see what it reveals about what's inside some people.
Each Disciple is encouraged to exercise a lot of autonomy in his or her own work. You, Dawn Aranu, are doing this well and I encourage you it it. Peace

CORPORATE NEWS I have been doing some scouting in Amarr territory and am convinced that we really need an Amarrian in the Disciples. In spite of their reputation as a religious people, I have found the Amarrians very commercially focussed. I am looking at Dantan as a possible system. 14 asteroid belts and an Ice belt make it an ideal location. However, it seems to lack a lot of local pilots active. I need to spend time there at different times to see what is really up.
GOOD NEWS I have donated 100,000,000.00 ISK to establish a permanent endowment for the Disciples of Ston to pay rent and hopefully expand the corporation in time. The investment principle will remain with Phaser Inc. and bear interest that will be used to pay office rent and any incidental expenses. Thanks Eddie Lampert of Phaser for providing the investment opportunity.

A brave king of ancient literature named Theoden once spoke in a time of desperate violence words I paraphrase, "How shall we withstand such reckless hate?" Along with the many good, peaceful, and kind people of Eve, there is also reckless hate in this space. How shall we withstand it? What tower can we build against it? The Disciples seek to build the tower of peace by confronting the futility of possessions and the wastefulness of violence. This is worthwhile work.
I will be voluntarily taking two days off of my work in Piekura. I am grateful to the Disciples for their encouragement and correction. Both have been given in proper measure. Dawn Aranu is capable of carrying on good work in my absence and well as in my presence. I may spend some time in low security space, testing the waters of difficult work and the self control needed. A couple days may be a fair time period as it is likely that I will be podded and will have to travel a bit.
An observation from the last few days... Two circumstances often reveal the inner quality of a man or woman. 1. How we respond to correction, and 2. How we react when our opponent, enemy, or those we perceive as such are humbled. The Former I must measure in myself; the latter I must observe in others. I will see you all in Piekura in a couple days. Learn from Dawn as she learns from you. Peace

Low Security Space
I will try to log frequently while I am in low security space. I know that working in 0.5-0.7 space has not even begun to expose me to the depth of violence and hatred that can be present in New Eden. This excursion is another opportunity to test and wring out remnants of fear.
I hope to test for the "residue" of the fear of death that is present in us capsuleers in spite of our physical longevity. I don't care for "immortal" as a descriptor, because it simply isn't true. We are mortal.
May this time make me a more humble and better Disciple of Ston.

The people of M-0EEB are quite interesting. I was destroyed almost immediately, but am sticking around as long as I am not podded to visit with these "folks." They possess the typical capsuleer sense of humor, earthy, pungent, sexual in nature. They are perhaps a bit less restrained than those found in low sec space.
I awake in Todaki. Somewhere in M-0EEB floats my corpse. One never quite gets used to this experience. Yes, I have gotten used to haveing ships destroyed many, many times. But, being podded always brings me back to the primal human instinct that clings to life and knows that it is fundamentally fragile.
Next decision, Do I go back to M-0EEB?
