I agree that shooting people with a headache in the head is a good idea, because it will stop their headaches. |

The forum troll is a little confused... so Iceland is like that guy that bums money from you then refuses to pay you back for it?

Why do you think CCP endorses scamming?

Not really. It is more like giving money to a sleazy guy in the big town and after he ran off with the money you go to his little brother on a distant farm (who had no idea about his bad brother) and demand the money back.
Of course that farmer won't give you a penny, why should he? It is your own fault if you trust banks which promised exorbitant profits.
EVE should have taught you that much at least: if it is too good to be true it is a scam. |

Just noticed that you changed your avatar. Not sure which I like better. (yes, I've been in a hole)
And that guy you are referring to is probably the same one that bummed money from the US. But how can you blame the guy? If someone gives him money and he can get away with not paying it back, I say go for it. Apparently, we have to wait for the courts to decide for the end of the story. If they are anything like the courts in the US, it could be many years before a decision is made.

It's for your own good, the icelanders know you'll only buy football tickets from corrupt russians/arabs and spend the rest on tabloids reading about the royal family and other assorted throwbacks.

More like the public saying "**** you, banking cartel". After all why should they pay for the banks failure? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not the banks who would be receiving this money; it's the British and Dutch governments. These governments already paid out to protect depositors in Icelandic banks from losses; now Iceland is reneging on its obligations to make good.
If the Icelandic people didn't want Icelandic companies running a massive hedge-fund operation which was both gigantically disproportionate to the size of the Icelandic economy (1000% of GDP) and legally backed by the Icelandic government, they ought to have maybe tried to do something about it before the **** hit the fan?

I'm pretty sure they didn't know, much like you don't know much of what your government has in store for you.

Actually I have a pretty good idea because I pay attention to politics and economics. Nonetheless, it doesn't take too much intellectual firepower to realize that a country with the same population as Peoria, IL does not need to be a global player in finance.

Not really. It is more like giving money to a sleazy guy in the big town and after he ran off with the money you go to his little brother on a distant farm (who had no idea about his bad brother) and demand the money back.

EVE should have taught you that much at least: if it is too good to be true it is a scam.
It wasnt too good to be true, I got pretty much the same interest from another bank in the Netherlands that did not collapse.
Now combining the above quote with others like:
Quote: More like the public saying "**** you, banking cartel". After all why should they pay for the banks failure?
You guys obviously have no idea what happened. The more realistic version:
Icesave was covered by the Icelandic national bank, lets just call them the Icelandic government. The government said that all savings up to G20k per account were guaranteed by them. Now Icesave collapsed, with the Icelandic government (hell the entire country) being on the edge of cascade failure, they couldnt hold up their end of the deal, guaranteering 20k per account. So to help the small businesses and private parties having money at icesave the dutch (and i think also brittish) national bank decided to pay the 20k, and get it back from the icelandic government later. At that point the icelandic government responded with TROLOLOLOLOLOLOL and refused to pay the money they promised to pay.
So that poor little brother on a distant farm we ran too (the icelandic government) had promised beforehand to pay if there would be any problems, now there are problems, and he refuses to pay. Now the fun part: that poor little brother on a distant farm approximation is pretty accurate when we look at the icelandic army, which is non-existent. You would be surprised at the amount of people who wouldnt mind if we just went there with our navy and plundered the island.

Hey troll boy! Here's an idea, why don't you abolish monarchy and make those freeloaders fork over all that money they've oppressed the ass out of you lot for for centuries? That would no doubt be more than any looting spree of Iceland.

But we need the Royal family for bringing American and Japanese tourists to London. They possibly fulfil other functions, but I can't think of them right now.
