I would really like to see some new stuff for us miners. Its time for the miners to get something new. How about a new ship, a new barge something alittle more bigger and more powerful than the Hulk. Just really would like to see the miners get some new toys.

I don't have time to find it now, but during fanfest there was a slide with a list of the priorities that CCP had vis-a-vis fixing things.
Guess where mining was. (The bottom)
The only boost that mining will get in the very short term, is, wait for it, No more bots (In theory).
Come on CCP Sreegs, we know you can do it!

I agree mining missions suck, need to move them back to what they used to be.
More than that mining needs to become a more competitive wage earner.
I'd double yield and double cargo capacity on all mining ships. Double the capacity of all existing belts too.
A capital size mining ship would be nice (Something like Red Dwarf...). Just give it the ability to fit 4 strip miners, decent tanking ability, larger drone bay.

While their war against bots is okay, it won't solve the problem.
Until they make it so a miner can make the same money as a missioner they won't solve it.
Also while in theory its nice to get rid of all the bots, the moment you do then the price of everything will double most likely within 90 days, assuming the bots can't adapt their programs.

Some kind of ninja mining ship might be useful. Large cargohold / ore hold, large drone bay, decent tank, can be fit to be unprobeable (but can be probed while drones are out) or else can fit a cloak in extra high slot. Maybe make it able to use Black ops bridge? Lowsec/nullsec/wormhole only. ___________________________________ That which kills me makes me deader |

The biggest problem is a mission runner can earn twice what a miner can.
That's why there are more missioners than miners.
You could take the opposite approach too and just half cycle times on mining lasers but would still need to double cargo capacity.
While mining bot teams are used to make money to pay for themselves they are more a stopgap method to fill in a role that others find undesirable because of lack of income generation but necessary because they need minerals. You make it more profitable for real miners by helping them out and you'll see botters move on to more profitable endeavors.
Ultimately if you do manage to ban all the bots miner income will increase, but it will also become harder to find items on the market as the live miners will not be able to keep up without modifications to their equipment.

Mining is fine as it is. Introduce better mining ships, and the price of minerals will fall so it would be self defeating.
The Hulk is now the most common ship being flown in the game (QEN Q4 2010). You should have been around in the days when toons were mining in Punishers and Thorax's!

You do realize all that you just said would just make mining LESS profitable? The more minerals you pump into the market the less the prices will become.
If anything CCP needs to start LOWERING the amount of roids in highsec. As well as create more mineral sinks in order to try and increase demand. Another thing that CCP failed on was making POS/POS Mods/Sov structures be primarily PI and not normal minerals. That would have helped alot as far as increasing mineral demand which then would increase the profitability on mining.

Edited by: Candar Beldrulf on 06/04/2011 09:51:51 Agreed with Brooks Puuntai. Mineral prices are related to supply and demand, and right now supply is outstripping demand. Look what happened to salvage prices when the Noctis was introduced - Tritanium alloy bars etc all plummeted in price to a new equilibrium point.
A new mining ship would lead to short term profits for the early adopters, followed by a general drop in mineral prices as more ships of the type come online.
Want mining to be more profitable? Form a cartel and restrict supply.

Hulks need a NERF! That would boost mineral prices nicely.

any buff miners get, mining bots get, and in a supply and demand economy(like eve) more minerals on the market means lower prices. As long as bots are pumping mins in the market, player miners will be broke, but if those bots go away, suddenly the rest of us have to pay the miners out the nose so we can do the things we want to do.
TL;DR want more money for your time mining? Market scarcity is the only way to go. Bots destroy scarcity, therefor, go bot hunting if you miners want money

Not if you get rid of the bots. :)
My contention is that removing all bots, there are not enough miners in the game to actually sustain either the pve or the pvp community :).
Thus you need to modify their ships. I'm more leaning that the reduced cycle time is better than increased yield though. If you've ever mined ice you'll know what I mean...

See this is why they don't let miners handle the economy. Your minerals are already next to worthless, if you balloon supply price will drop like a rock, and you'll be making even less because everyone and his mother can "make their ships for free" by mining minerals.

There is actually alot more actual miners then you think. However due to the state of mining most of those have been deactivated due to it not being profitable.
If anything while new mining ships could be introduced they should offer better tanking abilities or better defenses for survivability. What the hulk can pull in now needs to remain as the max as far as yield

Echoing what has been said, buff to mining = buff to botters mining. Mining is far too 'easy' and requires such little attention to target roids and move ore it doesn't need a boost. Too many people (bots included) mine you need less miners to get more isk/hr.
Furthermore the bot war isn't just for miners it is for all players. Screegs isn't at CCP to make your profession better, he isn't here to change gameplay, at least not directly, that may and really needs to happen but not as boosts but fundamental changes to make the automation of a task/mechanic more difficult if not impossible.
The only 'new' things miners should get are heartier ships, tougher for 00/wh, maybe some dedicated cloaking slots and the like NOT boosts to yields.
Finally there are **** tonnes of minerals/roids on the market and stockpiled in hangars due in large part to mining popularity, ease of afk, botting, etc. Part of what fuels supercaps online is so many damn minerals.

You have no idea how many mining Thorax I lost Old Chap... especially when they introduced tougher rats into low sec.
Seriously though, mining doesn't need anything except mass bot bans. The reason there are so many hulks around is simply because there are so many botters. They have destroyed margin trading (the bots) on most items, they've destroyed mineral mining and ice mining as profitable professions. There's nowhere to go except level 4's for isk grind. See botting threadnought for more information.

What? Really? All this would do would increase the amount of minerals going onto the market which would lower the price of ore and you'd end up worse off.
What you need to think about if you insist on banging the "miners are peoples too" drum is either a) decrease the amount of minerals going onto the market or b) Increase the demand for minerals
Removal of bots will help to an extent but pretty much any other "solution" is likely to just compount the issue when applied to the entire user base.
There's also the fact that if mining reached a point where it was more profitable than mission running more people would flood to it, increasing minerals on the market, lowering their value and bringing you back to the same place you are now.
The wow sollution would be to setup npc buy orders for ores\minerals but that's someting I've always thought ccp wanted to move away from.
You know, getting everything as player run as possible.

i think before you can make mining more profitable you need to see why it is not
atm that all the minerals in eve come from either:
-mining -refining of loot -drone alloys
with the new changes in 0.0 anoms the drone regions will get a nice boost as they have a lot of good truesec systems
so the input of drone compounds is most likely going to go up
with that input of more alloys mineral prizes will drop even lower
to make mining more profitable you need to lower all mineral inputs either by changing drop-rates or changing reprocess amounts
only if mining becomes the most effective way to get minerals is mining going to be profitable

Assuming that when mineral prices start to climb people don't switch back to mining instead of the currently more profitable persutes.
Face it, mining pays low because it's easy. If you make it hard, you'll make ships expensive which'll make pvp less attractive which isn't what eve's about
