Wouldn't it be cool if ships had this?
What the hell is ablative armor?
Ablative generators were extremely advanced shield emitters capable of creating a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of a ship so equipped.
source.
Here's a demonstration.
I think it would be cool to have something like this. I am not sure about it's features and penalties, (maybe ship becomes immobile?).
What you guys think?

Ablative armor should be an extra disposable armor hull around your ship.
It would prevent one-shots but slow down your ship.

Sub capital ships do not enter siege mode. And this is more about the visuals. For example when your armor tank fails, you sacrifice the entire capacitor and deploy armor.

Techically, all armor on EVE spaceships IS already ablative armor, not just that, but easily regenerated ablative armor. The idea of a ???module??? that allows you to instantly double armor HP while sacrificing ???something???, that's not going to be meshing nicely with gameplay so far, therefore being unlikely to be introduced. As for the visual effect, first off, it's not "awesome", it's stupid (I found it ridiculous when they first showed it on Voyager too), and second, there's good reason why we don't ALREADY have different visuals on armor damaged / armor repaired (you know, other than the faint glow effect of reppers). _

This is what we call an Armor Repper. Which uses advanced physics to convert energy to matter in order to repair the armored plates of our ships.

Yeah the first time armor tanking was shown in Voyager I was like wtf, but nowadays... Different damage levels on a ship (scorch marks and such) although cool, don't really add all that much.
Armor is fine as it is, even more buffer is not needed. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

I think 100% bonus to damage is a great idea for armor. We really need this "receive twice the damage with this amazing piece of technology". Good job!
On a more serious note: All armor in EVE Online is ablative (as in there is no reactive armor). So I don't understand why you would ask "Wouldn't it be cool if ships had this?" since we have that already.
Originally by: wikipedia In the online game EVE-Online, ablative armor plating is a relatively cheap variety of armor coating to prevent damage to a ship from weapons. To achieve this, it raises the resistances of the armor by a notable amount when used alone, and is given diminishing returns upon employing multiple platings.

I mean, seriously, it was all like "whee, we're generating MASS OUT OF NOTHING (because we sure as hell ain't using enough energy to account for it), and somehow this material is so much stronger than the SHIELDS that has been shown to stop kinetic impacts or energy blasts that would destroy small asteroids easily". And why the bloody hell don't they keep it "active" at all times anyway ? It's space, not like you have friction or anything. Star Trek was always on the "soft" side of sci-fi, but after Berman&Braga took over, it just descended into utter nonsense. Somewhat entertaining, mind you, but still utter nonsense. _

Combat armor/shield reinforcement (or some cool name) technology book. rank 14 or 15
Capitals and Super capitals can use it. Personally, I think only Tier I carriers can use it. Thought about dreads, but think not, unless CCP adds one more high slot (or that high slot is fixed only to be useable for this mod) for all dreads for this module. Cannot imagine this mod to be used on sub capital ships, since its plain silly, especially from Voyager/Star Trek.
SomecoolshieldnameIcan'tthinkof reinforcement I. High Slot Ablative armor reinforcement I. High Slot.
Bonus: Fixed 50% less damage taken from fighters, fighter bombers (and maybe DD weapons too?) 2% or 2.5% bonus resistance to armor/shield per level CANNOT warp during the duration
Requires: Some commodity required to use, 250 of the amount required? 10% less of the required commodity to activate per level
requires 50% capacitor to activate 2% or 2.5% less capacitor required to activate per level.
Duration: 5 or 10 minutes duration. I think 10 will do. ----------------------------------- Peace through power! |

Well, technically they 'armor' tanked in DS9, you didn't see any shields in Operation Return or really any battle, even after the UFP modified their shields to the Jem'Hadar weapons. Or was that hull tanking? ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

don't support,
we need to use our brains to make our ships tough (through a combination of modules) not just one. people would overuse it to hell. like have a carebear buddy, scout out a gate without the chance of getting popped. or have a noob, aggro tank a lvl 4 mission while his buddies take everyone out.
